Curious as to others thoughts on this?
Personally, as much as I respect Oprah (who wouldn't, she is an amazing woman), I think she needs to stay off the campaign circuit. I really dislike when candidates use Celebrities to help them campaign.
-
I agree with you 100%. I guess they all do it to some degree.
-
i'm letting you'all battle it out. i'll make up my mind after it's decided who's running. so far i don't know that any of them should be president.
-
I could careless personally, b/c I don't vote for who their supporters are, I vote for their views and so on. BTW I ain't afraid to share it,
I am voting Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never nor will i ever vote, the way i see it is they are all liars anyways, :twocents;
-
I'll leave it at this all we can do is try to pick the lesser of the evils, God help us!!!!
At least it isn't KT running...that will be coming.

She will have absolutely NO influence in my voting. I believe as a country we all follow the advice of celebrities too, too much. I'll be voting with MY head and heart. :twocents; :usaflag;
-
Unfortunately for Obama (he's an idiot if he thinks otherwise) the majority of the people that came out for that, just wanted to see Oprah...Boxman

i haven't voted for president in years, too many to count. i vote for the local issues, but just leave president blank. i refuse to vote for the lesser of two evils and they don't have a line for none of the above!.
-
I'd vote for Oprah for President. :2thumbsup;
-
I actually think Oprah will drive as many voters away from him as she will bring in.
The candidate my philosophies are aligned with has no chance of winning, so once again my vote will be more about who I don't want to win that who I do. :-\
-
everybody should vote. if you don't vote you don't have a right to complain. :usaflag;

Who would want to vote for any of these fools. And BTW this is America, we still have the right to complain :usaflag;
-
Complaining is not productive...voting, that is, researching, staying informed, and voting is!

I haven't seen a candidate on either side that would make me want to go to my polling place next year. The Republican contenders are a pathetic bunch and if the choice is either Barack or Hillary well...

So if i vote for someone and they end up a liar, that will give me the right to complain?? Didnt think so!! I do not follow politics at all, i have enough to worry about within the four walls of my home than what some joe shmo is promising or saying to the people just to get their votes just so they can end up lieing or funking something up. I just stick to myself, my life, my family, my problems and thats pretty much all i have to say about that ;) :2thumbsup;

My wife is chiming in here with her :twocents;, but we agree on all of this...
Hi Goofynina!!! ;D I totally respect your view point, but what our public officials do and the decisions they make has every thing to do with our everday personal life...we should concern ourselves with the folks who best represent our values and especially for us, our health related concerns - for example prescription costs; healthcare regulation, law, and funding; medical research, etc...
Because there are so many folks we need to consider, from local offices up to all those running for president it can absolutely be pretty overwhelming. But it is now easier than ever to research, especially for the savvy IHD site users, by using our computers and checking out the candidates' website (which by the way, in my opinion, is the best way to find out who these folks really are - not so much in the media, which is too biased and always looking for controversy instead into their true character).
And as far as lieing goes, everyone does that...it is an unfortunate fact of life. That's where staying informed, and even going so far as to write folks directly to keep on top of things really helps. Its easy to get jaded by some of the shanagans you hear in the media a lot, but if we "write off" those in office or those running, all the time as bad guys/gals, then that's all we'd probably really end up with. I even take it a step further and get involved in grassroots/issue campaigning so that I make sure the candidates know what this constituent's concerns are!
Oh and a few folks mentioned they either vote the lesser of two evils or don't vote because that's all it would be and I can understand that...I've been in that situation plenty of times, but look at it more like trying to find the one who most aligns with your values and priorities...again that's not always easy, but even if it comes down to just one thing that your dead set against, then you should vote for the "other guy/gal".
I hope all that makes sense...I realize when all is said and done we all have our own opinions and will do what we want - a great thing about this wonderful, blessed country we live in!!! :usaflag; Which if you think about it, is a freedom our fore fathers "voted" about a long time ago! :grouphug;

Voting is such a personal decision.
In this country there is more interest in voting for American Idol than for the people that decide how tax dollars should be spent.
-
Really it don't mater who we vote for, in the end our tax dollars never get spent on what they should be spent on.

sure some of them do- thats why we have roads and police and fire fighters, medicare and foodstamps and medicade, health inspectors and state attorneys, garbage truck drivers and county landfills, health departments and libraries...the list goes on and on. This is a great country....with a great infrastructure, the more people who get involved the more likely you will see positive changes. Sure- there are abuses of power and tax dollars, but you can't discount all the great things our tax dollars DO accomplish.

Amen to that Glitter! Including dialysis!
-
Nicely said Glitter, the key is to vote (that is the key) for someone who will hold the line on taxes (a true conservative will do that) be effective on national security
(the democrats and our house leaders Palosi and Reed) have shown their not or will not. He must try and balance the budget. He must appoint conservative supreme court justices to keep various laws in place. He must not lie. He must not cheat. He must have foreign policy knowledge and He must understand the economy....Boxman

:ausflag; We have just had an election for our new Prime Minister down here in the land of OZ.
A new Government led by the Leader of the Australian Labor Party, the Hon Kevin Rudd MP, was sworn in by the
Governor-General on 3 December 2007.
It is compulsory to vote here. Unless you want to receive a nice fat fine in the post... you need to pay attention and choose the lesser of two evils.

now see, I do not agree with anything being compulsory- you should be free to NOT vote if thats your choice.

and that's the main difference between the united states and every other country, we can CHOOSE not to participate.

Get Out The Vote ... If You Care
Sept. 26, 2004(CBS) The following is a weekly 60 Minutes commentary by correspondent Andy Rooney.
Every four years, at election time, a lot of organizations like to act public-spirited by telling people to vote.
They associate their effort to get out the vote with whatever their product is. They hope we'll think more highly of it because they're in favor of voting.
One of the biggest radio stations in the country, WFAN, owned by Viacom, which also owns CBS, is running a Get Out The Vote campaign.
The Credit Union National Association puts out a message saying it wants people to vote.
There was a sign on the West Side Highway in New York that I passed every day driving to work. It said "100 million votes made a huge impact on the last election. They didn’t vote." That was followed by the name of Kenneth Cole, the company selling shoes that paid for the sign.
In Nevada, someone is trying to talk former prisoners into voting: Now that you’ve done your time, it's time to vote.
Of the 200 million eligible voters in this country, only a little more than half of them voted last time. It's a disgrace, but do you think WFAN, Kenneth Cole Shoes, or the Credit Union really gives a damn whether anyone votes or not?
I know I don't care. As a matter of fact, I have a message for the 100 million Americans who didn't care enough about our democracy to vote last time. Good! And, please, do us all a favor. Don't vote next time, either. If you don't care enough about the issues, I don't want you canceling out my vote with your vote.
I'd be willing to bet that it's the dumbest people among us who are least likely to vote too, and that's fine with me. I don't want anyone dumber than I am voting.
If you don't know the names of your two senators, don't vote.
If you don't read a good newspaper, don't vote.
If you're a new citizen, wait another four years until you understand English well enough to know what the candidates are talking about before you vote.
So, if you people watching tonight have some dumb friends, do yourself a favor and encourage them not to get out and vote.
This message was paid for by the people who watch 60 Minutes - most of whom are smart enough to vote or they wouldn't be watching 60 Minutes. They'd be home watching wrestling on television.

Don't usually care too much for what Rooney has to say, but he may actually have a point here :-\

My opinion is if you don't get involved and vote for the best candidate then you really give up your right to complain. Our country was founded on the right to freedom of speech but I think you understand what I'm trying to say.
If change is what you want then you have to make change to get change. You are either part of the problem or you are part of the solution and it is your choice to make.

I will not vote for any candidate because a certain entertainer or celebrity supports him. I have about as much sense as any of them and more than some of them. I've already decided that a few of them I could never vote for(including
Obama and Hillary). I'm watching them all closely to help me decide who will be the lesser of the 2 evils. Voting is
a God given right. Many countries do not have that right. The one I decide on may turn out not to be any better than the others, but at least it was my choice not Oprah's or Kenneth Cole's or any other celebrity.
God Bless tjhe USA!!!

I used to vote religiously. Now forget it. Show me a candidate worth voting for and maybe I'll change my mind. In the meantime, I'm not holding my breath.

Go MiMi! Go MiMi! It's your birthday.... :lol;
I agree.
