Title: New person
Post by: Sluff on May 30, 2006, 08:44:27 AM
Hello to all.

My name is Sluff.

I am not on dialysis yet, nor do I know how long it will be before I am. I am a newly diagnosed Primary FSGS patient.
Just doing as much research as I can. Assuming I will eventually end up on dialysis, I thought this link from a post of another kidney disease blog was worth checking out.

I hope to make friends with others who have paved the road of uncertainty with their experiences.

Appreaciate it Sara.

I know I have a lot to learn here and after reading a couple of posts here I have a lot to look forward too. I mean that sarcastically.
My Nephrologist says we caught this early, so I'm not so sure that is a good thing because it sure presents a different outlook on life in general doesn't it? Any how I'm glad to be here. There is plenty of reading to do.Best of luck to your husband.

Welcome, Sluff.  We like you already - getting the word out about our site!!  This site is a means of advice and support to renal patients (as well as their significant others!)  Though we would love to have you around, I do hope that you do not have to end up on dialysis.

Welcome Sluff,

while your at it and preparing for dialysis its a great time to educate yourself about all options available to you.......talk to your Doc and ask him what dialysis options are available to you.......including the possibility of doing dialysis at home like I do. Also, I think that once your kidneys are near gone you might want to ask your Doc about getting a fistula done soon. That way you will be prepared ready to go.........you might want to visit these links below to learn more about hemodialysis.....

Once again, welcome dude!  ;D

Thanks for all the advice, and the links.

I have to say one thing though... it kinda scares me a little and I've always been known to be a tough guy.

People without this disease affecting their life have no clue what you all go through. My meds are not helping yet but it is way to early to know if and when they'll work.

I feel like I'm feeding from a fire hydrant right now, but I would rather know early what to expect. Thanks again

Hey Sluff, glad to see you found the board also.  As far as your above statement, don't worry we all go through so form of being scared of this disease.  I think there are something like five stage you can go through, being pissed off, scared, depressed, and then eventually acceptance.  It has taken me just at a year to get to the "acceptance" part of it.  I promise things will get better, you just have to hang on for the ride until you get there my friend.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm going on a trip to California next weekend, I'm going hopefully be too busy to worry about this. It really helps when you read through some of the things others have endured, and you begin too realize that maybe you ain't got it so bad..

Epoman I sent someone advice to hook up with you at this site. That would be chucksmom, at least that is her previous name at the kidney site. Hope she found her way, she's been there with her daughter, if you know what I mean.

I hope everyone is having a good day.

Hallo Sluff,
welcome and I am sorry that you have to be prepared. But you are on the right site for good advice, compassion and kind understanding. I hope you might be lucky to get treatment and avoid dialysis. Research is going on all the time and who knows... Please let us know how things develop. Best wishes and kind regards from Kristina.

My crystal ball tells me that:  you are
creative and humorous, with the perfect
amount of machismo thrown in.  And you
would give the shirt off your back if necessary.
You'll fit in just perfectly here.
