Title: Black Friday Shoppers!
Post by: Romona on November 19, 2007, 05:11:08 PM
Are you a Black Friday Shopper? Once in awhile I go, but in the evening. I never really see too many things in the sale ads I want to get. This Black Friday I have an appointment in Pittsburgh. I am wondering about the traffic.

I usually go, but due to lack of money this year I am unable to go this year. I have my shopping pretty much all done anyways, so it's ok.. :)

I wouldn't shop on Black Friday if they were giving out $50 gift cards at the door of every shop in the mall.  The horror stories I hear every year about circling the parking area for more than an hour to find a space, crowds in the stores, long lines at the registers, rude clerks, and the pickpockets -- NO THANKS!

Besides I do my Christmas shopping all year long - easier to find just the right gift and much cheaper.  I'm finished for this year and I'm already keeping an eye out for next years gifts.

i don't do malls. especially from the day after thanksgiving to somewhere in february. if i have to go i park outside one of the doors to the store i want, go in, buy what i want and leave. if the store doesn't have a door to the outside, forget it, i really don't need anything they have.

i've already done all my shopping, amazon.com. wonderful, never left the house, never paid shipping fees, got everything i wanted, easy peasy, lemon squeezy   :2thumbsup;  you can take black friday and.........

"Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, where it is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season. Since Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States, Black Friday may be as early as the 23rd and as late as the 29th day of November. Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many employers give the day off, allowing consumers to get a head start on their Christmas shopping. Retailers often decorate for the Christmas season weeks beforehand. Many retailers open very early (typically 5 A.M.) and offer doorbuster deals and loss leaders to draw people to their stores. Although Black Friday, as the first shopping day after Thanksgiving, has served as the unofficial beginning of the Christmas season at least since the start of the modern Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924, the term "Black Friday" has been traced back only to the 1970s. "Black Friday" was originally so named because of the heavy traffic on that day, although most contemporary uses of the term refer instead to it as the beginning of the period in which retailers are in the black (i.e., turning a profit)." - From Wiki.

Basically, the biggest deals of the year all in one day. Stores open very early, and you have to sometimes stand in line to even get in the store it's so busy.

One black friday I got in line at a walmart at 4 a.m. for a 'Furby'-- I didnt get it, they only had 10 of them, But I did get a VCR for 20.00- geeze- that was about 10-12 years ago- Most of the years I just STAY HOME! Those women in them stores are just scarey! Black Friday is usually the day I put my Christmas stuff up.

I'm out the door at 4:30am my girlfriend and I have done it for years we have girlsday, but her mother-in-law just passed away so they are driving to California so I will be doing it alone this year. I get 90% of my shopping done. It's so fun to watch women and MEN go crazy but stay out of my way or else :boxing;

I LOVE Black Friday!  I get there early and leave early.  I make sure I know exactly what I want.  Rob used to go with me, but now has to work on that day.  I don't like going with other people because I want to leave as fast as possible.

My girls and I have done this for years.  This year Kohls is opening at 4!  I might not make it this year!  I usually get good deals and it is fun to be in the middle of all the madness.  Then we go to Bojangle's and get the best biscuits made in the world!  And then home to nap!

I don't join in the Black Friday fun, but I've heard it can be big fun if you aren't under pressure and have time to watch the madness.
There's an outlet mall about an hour north of me that is opening this year at midnight on Thanksgiving with special deals until 8am on Black Friday...you realllllly have to love shopping (or hate sleep) to join that frenzy!

Our malls always seems to be filled with the most god-awful people every Black Friday so for the last few years I've been doing all my Christmas shopping online.  If you check the sites, they usually offer special days or weeks where they have free shipping.  You save gas, injury and bad dispositions from ruining your holiday season.

Oh, I never go, and I might have to this year, at least to one store.  I just got my JoAnn's flyer, and they've got fabric I want on sale for 99 cents a yard instead of $5, plus a coupon for a huge percent of the total sale, but only if I finish shopping before noon.  I need something like 25 yards for the memory quilts I want to make everyone for Christmas with my dad's clothes.  I don't think I can afford NOT to go.

Hey! I didn't get my JoAnn flyer!!

I haven't gone out on Black Friday since the time I went to Walmart on that day. I drove around the parking lot for over an hour, literally narrowly missing 2 accidents over spaces. Then, while pushing my cart around, I had people ramming my cart with theirs to get me out of the way of something they wanted, I was screamed at for taking the last item, I had someone even take something out of my cart that they wanted! Then I stood in line for an hour and a half (that's not much different from any other day at Walmart lately)! NEVER, NEVER, NEVER EVER AGAIN!!! I won't even drive anywhere near the mall. The traffic is bad enough all other times of the year. You actually sit through at least 8 light cycles just to get through a traffic light!

i must really be crazy (we'll have that discussion later) but i need snow tires for my car NOW, not later. so since gap has a friends and family program for the holidays, i'm going to work 16hours this weekend ($9perhour and lunch) i really feel sorry for the folks working at the outlets on friday. they open at midnight and are the only thing in the denver metro area that will be open. the other malls in the area don't open till 5am. they figure they will either all be sitting around twiddling their thumbs or MOBBED!!!

I think they call it "Blitz" here in San Antonio.  And no....I've never gone!

Actually, I have an appt with my vascular surgeon AGAIN.  My fistula incision done on Oct 31st just started bleeding this morning.  He thinks I might have popped a sutcher (sp?) , but not sure.  My arm is still quite swollen with fluid.  It's the part of the incision that highest up under my arm near my arm pit and it hurts pretty much daily!

 I never go shopping on Black Friday. BUT , for everyone who does please be careful. I had an ER doctor come into the coffee shop I manage today and told me that the day after Thanksgiving is one of the busiest days in the ER all year. A lot of people get in accidents, fights, etc.

You have to sign up at the store to get them mailed to you.  They usually have a 40% coupon for anything regular priced on the back page - I use that a lot.

Oooh, bad week to miss out on the flyer!  A 40% off any reglar price item, a 50% off any regular price item, and another 20% off the total, sale items included, for coupons!  I've got mine all marked up with the sale stuff I need.  Fimo is half off - so at 70% off, I may just buy out the rack. . .

Here in Raleigh (and other places I am sure) people were lined up at Best Buy at 9AM ON THURSDAY!!!!!!  A full day before they opened to get the Toshiba laptop for $250...  When my brother, Todd, went by Thursday at about 6PM the line was clear across the building.

I like black friday. I just sit in the parking lot and watch people put valuables in the trunk of there car and go back into stores. i pick the cars that have a latch beside the car seat to open the trunk. i swing by open the door, flip the latch take the goods and go.  :2thumbsup;

i like to stand by women in stores that keep there purses open with money sitting on top of everything in the purse, sticky fingers just sticks hand in purse very fast and the money just clings to my fingers.  :bow;

o' this is a great time to get free gifts. only in america  :usaflag;

naw, just kidding. but a warning to be careful everyone during your shopping.

I was at JoAnn's at 7 am - an hour after they opened.  I waited in line to get fabric cut about 20 minutes, but it wasn't too bad.  I got $600 dollars worth of fabric for $100, and another $50 dollars worth of notions and clay all at more than half off.  It was worth it!

I was out of the house by 4:30 and at Walmart by 5:00.  I got our son a Portable DVD Player for $50 (great deal!), and a WWE Wrestling Chamber.  I was in line at target for 6:00 opening.  I got the Guitar Hero Bundle for PS2 for $85!!!  I wish I got 2 so I could sell one on ebay.  I saw a couple selling for $170 there.  I also got some other toys for our son.  We also have a store called Bob's here that has loads of sporting goods, plus clothing and shoes for the family.  I got Rob some Patriots & Red Sox clothing and also a nice, heavy Red Sox winter coat for our son and a Patriots shirt.  I got some really great deals, so glad I went.  I go every year!

I did see some crazies out there.  In Target this nut case was upset about the crowds in the store and couldn't move, so he picked up his carriage and walked around with it.  It was crazy and pushy, but for the most part, the people were fine.

I'm not leaving the house until Monday this year.  All sides of the family have gone to the "no gifts for adults" plan, so I needed gifts for only 4 kids this year.  I need to stop at one grocery store to get a gift card for the teen who is out on her own, but other than that, I'm all done with shopping.  (The teen asked for grocery money, but I've noticed that she's never got any money for food even when you've just given it to her - it all goes up in smoke.  The store I'm getting the gift card from doesn't sell cigs.  Damned if I'll support her bad habits!)
