I woke up to xmas early this morning! Lots of beautiful 'snow' all over my bedroom!!! Yes my youngest dog had found his way into his duvet cover and shredded the duvet inside !! (pampered pooches , all have a duvet each to sleep on) So i have spent most of the morning cleaning up and i still keep finding bits of snow .. anyone else got naughty pooches ? :rofl;

Give your dogs a Beanie Baby! I swear those beans reproduce wildly when released from captivity. My two ganged up. One dog chewed a hole through it. The other dog took over from there and ran around the room shaking it. I vacuumed beans up for months!

Periodically I give my black lab mix (rescued from an animal shelter), a stuffed animal. She always chews it open and pulls out all the stuffing. She is left with the deflated stuffed toy and will spend months carrying it around in this condition. Then I will get her a new one, and the cycle starts all over again. It used to bother me, until I realized she was still having fun with the remnants. Her latest is a deflated Eagle.

i used to have a samoyed who chewed on matchbook covers. she would fold back the cover, exposing the matches. hold it between her paws and pull the matches out with her teeth, placing them in a nice neat little pile. then, proceed to chew on the cover. it was rather funny and for the longest time i had no idea how she made those nice neat little piles of matches.

Our 2 yorkies have this habit of going to the front storm door and turning butt to butt and throwing their heads back howling. The neighbors must think we are killing them. Funniest thing the listen to.

My lab ate through a wall once. My beagle ate a solar pool cover (my mother was not happy--it was expensive!). And my Mom's lab/chow brings his treasures, dead animals, in through the doggie door! He's brought rabbits, squirrels, mice, birds, chipmunks and even a ground hog! The lab, and our lab/pit both love to chew rocks and (try to) bring them, as well as large tree branches into the house! My Mom has an above ground pool, and the lab keeps trying to jump in it from the ground. It's hilariuos in the winter. He ends up on top of the pool cover with a really confused look on his face! :o <-- kind of like that! ;D
Oh yeah, and all the dogs love "killing" their stuffed toys and pulling the stuffing out. Zoe eats every bed I buy her, including the stuffing. We're on bed #3 just in the last month.

My friend Claire and her husband Bob went out one evening and as usual, left their lab Shilo indoors so she wouldn't be lonely, start barking and disturb the neighbors. When they returned home a few hours later they opened the front door and water came rushing out! They could hear their Shilo yelping and crying and for a minute thought perhaps someone had broken into the house, the dog was so upset. Bob found her in the powder room, door shut. Water was spraying all over the room and Shilo was soaked to the bone. After turning off the water to the house they were able to piece together what had happened. Apparently Claire had forgotten to put away a bowl of M&M's that was on the coffee table. Shilo got up on the table, knocked it over and ate all the M&M's. Then she must have been thirsty so she went into the powder room to drink from the toilet, and somehow squeezing in there she shut the door behind her. This must have freaked her out because she pawed and pawed on the door, and at some point gave up on it and began to paw her way through the wall, beside the toilet. Shilo managed to break the turn off valve for the toilet and water sprayed out. It filled the bathroom, hallway, living room and part of the dining room. All their hardwood floors were damaged. After contacting their insurance company they had to hire one of those water damage companies to come set up fans, open the wallboards and vacuum out as much water as they could (fear of mold is a big deal here.) They had to stay at a hotel for a couple of days because these huge fans are loud, going 24 hours a day. All this because they love Shilo and are considerate of their neighbors!

When we adopted our Boston Terrier, he was awesome, great dog UNTIL, i left him alone, i adopted him from PetsMart and they said he came from a Happy Home, so i figured he would be safe to leave inside while i went shopping, WRONG!!! When we got home and walked through the front door, my house looked like a winter wonderland, he ripped open the sofa and had a field day with the stuffing, whew, was Sam mad, lol, he also ripped a giant whole in our Burbur carpet (we were renting from my sister) so we had to fix that A.S.A.P. Damn dog, lol, that was one expensive lesson i learned and Sniper got to stay outside when we were gone ;D
-
I don't got no story's yet, but I am learning ALOT from everyone else's!! :lol;
-
Oh, thanks Okarol, your story about Shilo reminded me..... I've got a FANTASTIC story that starts off in a similar way, but I did not write it, and although it's about a bull terrier, it's not about one of mine. But it is SO FUNNY it will have you in stitches so here we go:
COSMO
I am finally going to write this saga, but only after the naggings of my B.T. Mentoress Linda Lethin. When
she heard this story she insisted I tell all you guys on the list. But first..... I must warn you..... I't's graphic, .......It's Ugly.......But, It's also True... No names have been changed to protect the innocent.
I have had Bullies for nearly twelve years. I had had no major incidents prior to this. I attribute this to my professional training. I have been a police officer for 17 years. During my jail tours I developed
skills in the handling the unhandlable; such as serial killers; Randy Kraft, Charles Bonin, and even Richard
Ramirez (The Night Stalker ) So with the experience I gained in keeping these guys under control, I have
always done the same with my Bullies. Never an escape nor a major destruction of property.
Then came the new dog... Kingsmere Casanova...AKA Cosmo. He is a maniac. The wildest, most huckle-
butting dog I've ever owned.
It happened a few months ago when Cosmo was about 6 months old. I woke up that morning feeling down,
but being the dedicated employee I am, I went to work anyway. (I hate using my sick time when I'm
sick!) When I got home I was looking forward to going straight to bed, as by now I had a fever and
body aches. But, to my dismay I had forgotten my daughter's Softball practice. I could not press my
wife Laurie into taking her because she was already taking my son to ice hockey practice.
So I left home with my daughter and returned some two and a half hours later. The first clue something
was wrong appeared when I opened the garage door. The garage was flooded. "WHERE DID THAT WATER COME FROM?," I asked my daughter.
I walked to door leading to the house from and garage and opened it. I heard the sound of running water
coming from my daughter's room. WHAT IN THE HELL, I thought. I lurched into my daughter's room, and was
met by the sound of water squishing in the rug under my feet. I peered around the corner, to her 85 gallon
aquarium which houses rare and exotic Rift Valley African Cichlids from Lake Tanganyika, ( and Yes - of
course... expensive) the tank was nearly empty. The water had all escaped, wet the rug and seeped out
through the drywall into the garage. MY GOD, MY GOD, I yelled, MY FISH! My daughter followed me as I went
to open the equipment cabinet under the aquarium to see what kind of mechanical defect caused this tragedy.
I OPENED THE CABINET DOOR, AND TO MY DISBELIEF THERE WAS COSMO INSIDE THE CABINET, he had the aquarium water out-flow hose in his mouth, the last few ounces of water drinking from it, as he shook it like a madman.
He looked up at me, with a look of surreal satisfaction. His little, black, beady eyes glinting in the dark
cabinet. He had a strange look , almost a smile on his face. A million thoughts ran through my head. .....
How did a dog get inside a closed aquarium equipment cabinet, how did he get inside the house...
It did not take me long to place the blame.... ON MY WIFE! She had forgotten to put Cosmo away when she left for hockey.
I picked Cosmo up, and walked him to his crate, my feet squishing in the soaked carpet. As I walked I
surveyed the destruction. He had been in the house over two hours, by himself.
He had systematically clipped all the electrical cords from their plugs, leaving the plugs sticking
out of their outlets with little piggie tails. Why he didn't get electrocuted, I don't know.
Cosmo also chewed up my son's brand new hockey helmet, and in an attempt to get a toy out from under
our couch, he ripped most of the fabric off the lower portion of the sofa.
He emptied the kitchen trash can and had strewn the trash throughout the house.
But the Coup De Grace, The Piece de Resistance, That little touch that only the evil mind of a pigdog
could think of, hit me last, and sent me over the edge.
As I walked through my bed room I began to smell something, and notice stains on my walls, leading
from my bathroom to my bedroom, through the hallway and into the kitchen. I entered the bathroom and the
full realization sank in....... One of my children, one of my precious, lovely children, whom I love...
But who had the bad habit of not flushing the toilet, had gone "NUMBER TWO" (defecated / had a bowel movement - for our international fans not familiar with American colloquialisms) and did not finish the job by flushing, nor were they troubled by closing the lid.
Cosmo had found this interesting object floating in the John, and plucked it out. He then ran hucklebutt
through the house, throwing it in the air as he did, as evidenced by the streaks on the wall.
That was it, I lost it..... Just as my wife came home. I began to cus and couldn't stop. I never yell and was
now doing so at the top of my lungs.
My neighbors came out in dismay...... I finallycalmed down, nearly cried, mentally and physically
wrecked, and spent the next four hours cleaning the mess up. A professional rug cleaner was called (Extra
$$$ for late night emergency), and my children forced to clean the "art work" off the walls.
Late that night after I had fallen asleep, I awoke with a start, I had a sudden realization of what that
mysterious look on Cosmo's face was when he was in theaquarium cabinet...............
IT WAS A SHIT EATING GRIN.
But, I still love my Bullies.......
(I would credit the author but I can't recall his name).

These really put things in perspective. I think I get off very easy with my ball-obsessed dachshund and leg-lifting yorkie. It's easy to pen the yorkie when I'm not home and keep a belly band on him when I am. And if all I need to do for the dachshund is throw a ball for a couple hours a day, well, that's fine -- her most destructive act was to chew the cord off my vacuum.

Oh I have another bully story, also written by someone else, which will make you laugh just as hard. Knowing bullies as well as I do, it makes me hysterical every time I read it - I never tire of it:

Are Bull Terriers Good With Children
by Peggy Arnaud
Haven't we all been asked this question many times? Yes, if raised with children, a bull terrier is a perfect companion; gentle and aware of the child's fragility. Haven't we all watched a great lump of dog play quietly on the floor with babies, then without warning hurl itself upon an unsuspecting adult with sufficient force to practically land him in the intensive care unit. So I would like to ask this question - Are Bull Terriers Good With Adults? Not one of my dogs has ever laid a tooth on me, but the damage to my person has, over the years been considerable.
One rainy morning I was standing in the driveway watching my husband back out the car when Muffin came flat out around the corner of the house carrying a length of 2 x 4. What she was intending to do with this piece of lumber has never been determined - it is possible that she was becoming bored with the demolition trade and was about to enter the construction business. Turning at her approach, I received the full impact of the wood on my shinbone and was knocked to the ground by the force where I lay screaming with pain and fury. Muff observed this odd behaviour for a moment, then deciding that she had heard all those words before (usually directed at her anyway), she retrieved her wooden weapon, and spinning it around with the grace and agility of a baton twirler, connected neatly with the back of my head as I was attempting to get to my feet. The impact returned me to my previous horizontal position, this time face down. My husband, who witnessed the entire performance informed me later that the timing was superb - worthy of the best Keystone Cops or Marx Brothers. But he delayed his departure, herded the menace into her kennel and inquired through his merriment if I was hurt. Stating I thought I might live long enough to murder the wretched bitch, I was helped to my feet but found I could not put any weight on the injured leg and my scalp was cut and bleeding - so a trip to the accident room of the local hospital was thought advisable.
Being my first visit for emergency treatment, I was not prepared for the volume of information required. Name, address, occupation are routine - but how, when and why!....(I am an obstetrical nurse and our patients are admitted onto the floor with a minimum of questions. We know why they are there, and we know how it happened and we assume the patient knows too, although sometimes one wonders)!
The admitting nurse was efficient and thorough. Vital statistics dealt with came unexpected questions. "Now, how did this accident happen?" "Well," I said, "You see my dog had this big piece of wood in her mouth and she hit me with it."
"Your dog?" "Yes." "I see, - and the head wound?" "Well my dog did that too." "With a piece of wood?" "Yes, - it was the same piece of wood actually." "I see."
"Well," I said, coming quickly to Muffin's defence," of course she didn't mean to, she sort of spun around and she had this piece of wood in her mouth, you see - and, well-she hit me with it - I was sitting in the driveway at the time..."
Our local hospital does not have a psychiatric floor but I could see by the expression on the nurse's face that she was aware of the desperate need for one.
I was X-Rayed, treated amid controlled giggles from the staff, and released.
The next major incident followed swiftly. (Minor ones occur almost daily.) The paddock gate is, of necessity, sturdily built of oak and heavy. It opens inward. Every day I collect each dog after his play period.
I call them from whatever act of mayhem they may be committing, push open the gate and bend down ready to snap on the lead. For three hundred and sixty four days of the year Bloody Mary had galloped to the gate, come around it, and been leashed in the usual fashion. On this particular day,
whether due to a whim, or perhaps because the moon was in Aquarius she chose to project herself at approximately the speed of light from the far corner of the paddock, and instead of coming around the gate, she leapt at it with all the force of her fifty pounds of muscle, slamming it shut on my head. I
went down like a pole-axed ox, and remained down and out long enough for the murdureous beast to remove and eat the bait-biscuits from my pocket - she also removed and apparently ate the pocket. A small hairpiece I was wearing has never been seen again - presumably it was quickly killed and buried. Staggering into a lawn chair I sat holding my head and considering an early retirement from dog breeding, while Mary amused herself by eating the geraniums.
This pastoral scene continued for awhile until my neighbor drove up, took one look at me, and insisted - yes, you guessed it - on a trip to the Emergency Room.
The last thing I wished to do on this earth was return to the hospital where, after the Muffin episode, there exists some doubt as to my sanity - I am known locally as "that kook who lives up on the hill with those funny looking white things she says are dogs". But feeling too sick to argue or resist I was firmly placed in the car and hurried off to my fate.
And so it came to pass that once again I presented myself at the local Emergency Room. Of course, the admitting nurse was the same as before, the staff also. Approaching the desk in embarrassed misery - torn clothing, wild hair, a great lump on my forehead and eyes blackening fast, I am greeted by an obviously wary nurse - "Goodness, Mrs Arnaud, sit down. Whatever happened to you now?" I take a deep breath, (Oh God will get you for this Bloody Mary) and with visions of padded cells looming large in my future, "Well," I said "you see - my dog..."
Are Bull Terriers Good With Children?
Oh yes. They are lovely.
Are Bull Terriers Good With Adults?
Well I am an adult and they are not good with me, and I have the scars - my body, my furniture, and my psyche - to prove it.

My Pointer does the same exact thing. All you see is his head madly bobbing as he pulls the stuffing out. The deflated toy is so gross looking after a week, but he loves them! His latest is a deflated rat.
My lab is the exact opposite, she can keep her toys for years without destroying them. The only thing that doesn't work is the squeakie.
Both dogs love extra loud squeakies in their toys. The louder the better. :rofl;

I thought I'd go ahead and introduce our dog Ben (and bump up this thread :bump;). We adopted him when he was about a year old. We don't know the whole story of how he lost his front leg. When he was dropped off at the animal shelter by an unknown person, he had all four legs, but a front one had clearly been injured in an accident of some sort. The wound had healed, but the leg had permanent nerve damage and was dragging. My co-worker's wife worked at the shelter and decided to adopt the him. She named him Ben. Two different vets recommended that she have the leg amputated. She did and then brought him home -- and then discovered she was allergic to him!
A mutual friend knew that our lab had died not long before. Even though we were planning to wait before getting another dog, there was no hope for us when she sent Ben's photo and story to me in an e-mail.
It was our good fortune because he is an incredibly friendly, loving and loyal dog. When he runs you would never know that he has three legs. He's fast. He goes up and down the steep stairs in our house with ease. And last summer he hiked 30 miles over 5 days with my husband and son on the Appalachian Trail.
-
He's a gorgeous pooch Linda, and he looks SO lovable and loving.
-
Handsome guy, Ben.
-
What a gorgeous dog and a lovely ending to an awful start for him. So glad he has you to love him :grouphug;
-
he should be on that talented dog show
he would outshine all those other dogs
and he is a beauty
our cow dog, yogi. protects Trasie ( almost 2) in our pool
Trasie likes to sit on the steps - Yogi positions himself between her and the rest of the pool
when she is in the pool, he stays in the water and will swim around her
we have to put a muzzle on him b/c he trys to pull her
he protects us also but not the way he does our baby
if she walks over to the pool he gets between her and the pool and howls to let us know
of course, she is never out there without us
-
To answer your title, nope, can't stand dogs. It seems just about everyone in this tract has at least one dog, and not one dog has ever been disciplined. They bark constantly. Pain in the . . . eardrums. Y'all thought I was gonna say something else, didn't ya?

are you a horse person?

We've had a number of wonderful dogs and a couple that were not so wonderful. One we adopted about a decade ago was almost feral and almost caused a divorce in our house! Still she was not a barker. Dogs that bark all the time have a message. Problem is, no one is listening to the message, just to the barking! In 30+ years I have never had a problem with my dogs barking in an inappropriate way.

It's amazing to me how a dog can know when someone is vulnerable or needs protecting.
When my husband hiked the AT, he really shouldn't have been there. His kidney function was below 15%. My son and nephew, who was also with them, would hike far ahead, out of my husband's sight (thanks guys...). It was August and incredibly hot. Stephen had to take it slow and more than a few times I know he worried that he couldn't do it. He told me that Ben would walk a bit ahead of him most of the time, but would never let him fall behind out of sight. If Stephen slowed down, Ben woud lie down on the trail until Stephen caught up to him. The dog never had a leash on during the entire week. How do they know the need?

Well, my lovely little boy pooch I'm about to take back to the rescue center today!
We drive 850 miles to my parent's house. The first thing he does when he gets into their living room? Lifts his little bony leg on their recliner! WT---? Then as I was talking to my husband on the phone this morning, he lifts his leg on my tennis shoes -- no I was not wearing them, thankfully! He doesn't do this at home? What on earth is wrong with him?
(Kidding about taking him back of course. That would never happen.)
-
he is confused
please do not take the little fellow back
you will miss him
:bandance;
marking his manly territory
-
He is in a different house/envirnment. Accidents can happen because he could be scared or just confused where he is and whats going on.

My dog loves everyone, and if you show him the least bit of positive attention, he will never forget it. I never realized how true that was until about five days ago, though. My husband's grandfather passed away, and the funeral was in another state, so we had to take our dog to the vet to board him. They absolutely love him there, and said that if they had to fold another dog in half, they'd find room for him.
So anyway, we pulled into the parking lot of the vet's office, and does the dog lie down and cry? No. Does he cower and refuse to get out of the car? Nope. Does he pull back on his leash so we can't get him in the building's door? Not a chance! His tail starts wagging, his eyes light up, and he's trying to get out of the car before we can get the leash on him! And his bed and food bin were sitting next to him on the car seat, so he had to know that it was an "extended stay".
He's currently curled up asleep at my feet, just as things should be. :guitar:

HELP
wth am I doing wrong
the photos will not come out on the post
should I do something between Open and Post

Those doggies are cuties!

My dog decided to steal the beef jerky package tonight and take it over by her bed. Hubby found it and handed it to me. it still has jerky in it. She could not get it open to eat all of it. It is now up high on my dresser. I guess she wanted a snack tonight.
-
I read where Apple Cider Vinager on a cotton ball taped to a wart will make them dissappear. I tired it last night and when I woke up at 1:50am the dog was gone. She was sniffing before bed like "what the hell stinks?"
:rofl;
-
Sad Sack, our old bassett hound, is over in the corner snoring - we are having tornado weather - there was a time she would be in our faces- nervous and panting and now she can't hear the thunder-- I used to get so tired of her during this kind of weather ----- now it is sad--
She tried to behead a snake the other day and we had to pull her away - the snake was about to get the best of her--- but in her day - that snake would have been dead------- Sad Sack still thinks she is a young pup----
-
My two are snuggled up together on the recliner (which used to be mine!) much like in the photo except they are both asleep. Bonnie is 10 and she, too, does not hear or see as well as she used to. Alot gets by her these days. Gracie is starting to fill in as the emergency back up dog and will bark at almost any sound.
Now, where in Texas do you live, Twirl? I wish we'd get rain or even storms up here in Dallas. It's way too dry and was 107 degrees today!
-
I live in Conroe, Texas by the Woodlands----- we have tree branches down -
pool is full of tree debris
cow dog is hiding in the garage freaked out
it has been 100 degrees here and over
-
Twirl, looks like you've got a tropical storm/hurricane headed your way. :o
-
Twirl, I love your stories about Sad Sack for two reasons: 1) My ex-husband and I had two bassetts, and they're fantastic dogs. I miss them so much! I got the cats, he got the dogs. 2) My current husband has a cousin whose emails always show up as being from Sad Sack - his nick name for himself, I suppose! Anyway, thanks for the stories, they make me smile, though it's a bit bittersweet.
-
I am finally back with my babies! I missed them sooo much. I bought a little sombrero in Mexico for one of my dogs -- we call him Senor Schnappo. (Not really sure why.) I'm going to take pics and if I can figure out how to upload a pic here when I get home, you can see him with his new hat.
-
:yahoo; Mibarra is back :yahoo;
did you look at the pics of my sister's two dogs, Pepe and Paco?
you have to click on the doc
-
:yahoo; Twirl, I am glad to be back! I did not look at Pepe and Paco (cute names) since I am not on my computer and can't download-- but I go home Thursday and will then.
-
can not wait to see your photos
glad you are back
when you see my name look at all doc
I do not know how to make the photo come out on the post
-
click on :yahoo;

:rofl; :clap;
-
Mibarra -- ( I mean Shark Bait) - take a picture of the pups sleeping with their grandpa------ how adorable would that be
-
Twirl,
I better not. My dad sleeps in his boxers! I think he would be a tad embarrassed.
Also, the shark left my house today.
It is headed your way. Let me know when it arrives.
Good luck.
I think another shark is due to leave Santa Fe for Conroe tomorrow. ; )
-
Shark Bait,
call you that b/c you have yorkies- my sister had a yorkie for 18 years, Gizmo
she lived over in Keeman somewhere they had a house on poles over the water-
one day Gizmo fell in and they almost could not find him
he almost died
I called him Shark Bait after that----- he was so small
I had to take Sad Sack to the vet Monday- she is living on borrowed time- her heart murmur is at a 6 and 6 is a bad as it gets -
she is taking four medicines and is better
she still eats and plays and knows us
we can not let her go outside by herself b/c she is getting too senile to get away from snakes
yesterday she got after one and we had to get out of the pool and help her
she and my son grew up together
Bubba calls and asks about her every night after football
when he spent the night at friend's houses in our neighborhood
Sad Sack would get out of the fence
go find the house where Bubba was staying
and whine and cry all night
we love her so
the vet told me she first saw her as a puppy in 1994
-
:cuddle; What a sweet story about Sad Sack. It sounds like he has had a very fulfilling 14 years with people who love him!
Did the shark find you yet? CHOMP!
-
he was saved :yahoo;

My boyfriend's 7 month old puppy has decided that SOMETHING lives under the fridge. A gremlin or something. After all, her ice cubes go under there and never come back! Something MUST be eating them. And she goes after the "something" everyday. I mean, maybe it'd attack someone in the house next if she didn't keep "it" at bay! :rofl;
-
jess 21 that story is so cute

Why Some Men Have Dogs And Not Wives:
1. The later you are, the more excited your dogs are to see you.
2. Dogs don't notice if you call them by another dog's name.
3. Dogs like it if you leave a lot of things on the floor.
4. A dog's parents never visit.
5. Dogs agree that you have to raise your voice to get your point across.
6. You never have to wait for a dog; they're ready to go 24 hours a day.
7. Dogs find you amusing when you're drunk.
8. Dogs like to go hunting and fishing.
9. A dog will not wake you up at night to ask, 'If I died, would you get another dog?'
10. If a dog has babies, you can put an ad in the paper and give them away.
11. A dog will let you put a studded collar on it without calling you a pervert.
12. If a dog smells another dog on you, they don't get mad. They just think it's interesting.
13. Dogs like to ride in the back of a pickup truck.
And last, but not least:
14. If a dog leaves, it won't take half of your stuff.

I dearly love my dog Gemma. She's a brindle coloured bully/staffy cross with a bit of a weight issue. She is a big sooky baby! I have had her since she was a pup and she is now 12 years old. I have been in tears since the 11th of this month. Took my baby to the vet because her stomach was very swollen and I haven't been over feeding her. She is a bit of a tucker monster and would eat all day if she could only open the fridge or cupboard doors.
Anyway - long story short the vet took a blood test and advised me she has failed liver and kidneys - apparently her blood results were way out!!
WTF my Dad has no kidneys and on dialysis and now poor bloody Gemma has got this.
I asked the vet what to do - "more tests, xrays etc. but really that will only give us a specific diagnosis and we still can't do anything for her "
I asked the vet is she in pain - her response - just look her in the eyes and you will know
I don't want to play GOD but I don't want her to suffer and she can't talk to me
It just sucks !!
-
It's so sad when our pets suffer. Poor Gemma and poor you. :grouphug;
-
So sorry to hear about your Gemma. She sounds adorable, and as you said, it really does suck. :cuddle;
-
Yes, it does suck. Take comfort in the fact that you can end her pain and suffering when the time is right in a dignified manner. I had a dog whose kidneys failed too and once he got sick and started suffering we took him to the vet and had him put down. I'm sorry Jessup!
-
we just lost Zuko
and now Sad Sack is pretty bad off
she was a dumped Bassett Hound
and we gave her a home
she's been with us 14-15 years
I am trying to wait until a day Allen is home from college
they are best friends and have had many adventures together
she still is the alpha dog over our cow dog
she still jumps on the couch
she still has her personality
doesn't appear to be in pain
but she is on 3 meds
what kind of a dog is she ----- bully/staffy
could we have a photo
thanks
-
Jessup - So sorry to hear about Gemma :cuddle;. We had to put our 11 year old lab down in January and it was one of the hardest decisions we had to make. Skye had kidney failure, an enlarged heart and one of the worst cases of hip displaysia our Vet had ever seen. We could have kept her alive with pain medication for 6 more months, but we knew it was time for her to go. Once we made the decision, she started wagging her tail and was her happy, old playful self again. As if to say, thank you I was with her as she went up to heaven, hugging and kissing her and whispering how much I loved her. It made us feel better to know she wasn't alone and that she wasn't suffering. It's not easy playing God, but we couldn't stand to see her in pain anymore. I think our pets know when it's time to go, even though it kills us to let them go. She was such a wonderful and loving dog, everybody loved her. We still miss her so much.
Here's the weird/wonderful thing that happened. Right after the Vet told me she was gone, I gave her one final goodbye kiss and hug and left the building. As I stepped outside, a HUGE gust of wind came out of nowhere (it wasn't a windy day that day) and leaves just circled around me. Rob and my son were in the truck and Rob commented on the gust of wind. We all like to think it was Skye giving me a hug and heading up to heaven. Actually, I really do believe it was Skye's way of saying goodbye.
-
That is a touching story skyedogrocks --- the gust of wind.
Jessup, I lost my beloved 13 yr old cat to kidney disease in the spring this year and then my black lab of 11 yrs contracted jaw cancer the following month. I had to put them both down when it became obvious they were in pain. I used to ask people,"How do you know if you need to put a pet down." They always answered that it would be painfully obvious.
And so it was. I think if you decide to do this for your beloved dog, you will know when it's the right time. I'm sorry for your pain. It is very difficult to see our pets suffer.
-
this is cute
-
:rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
loved it twirl
reminds me so much of my "tucker monster" Gemma

If you can spare a minute tomorrow, 12/16 please say a dogie prayer for our furbaby Willie. He has to have major surgery to remove his salivary gland. He has a knot the size of a large egg under his chin that has to be removed. We took him to a specialist up near DC and take him tomorrow for surgery and can bring him home sometime on Wednesday. The vet told us that he will be cut from his chin down his neck and will have to wear one of those cones for 4-6 weeks. Ouch. Len is already fretting about it and I'm fretting about $2,200. I love our pets with all my heart, it is just getting so expensive for their care. As they pass on through the rainbow bridge, they won't be replace since I am afraid of them out living me. Just wouldn't be fair. Please think of Willie tomorrow. :cuddle;
-
:cuddle;
Sending "big mobs" of love and wishes to dear Willie and the rest of the family
:flower; :grouphug;
-
Hugs and prayers to all of you. Special hug for Willie. :grouphug; :cuddle; :grouphug;
-
I'll be sending positve thoughts your way for little Willie. :cuddle;
-
I will think of little willie
and you and Len and of course, winnie
winnie will be worried too
-
prayers for you and willie!
-
Missy had a blood/pus filled wound in her neck and it was expensive too several years ago. Lord the money we spend on our pets.
My under the desk doggie!
-
Hope tomorrow goes well and willie gets better with the surgery. My son had a tumor on his paradid gland (a salivary gland) the size of a plum. Similar surgery to Willie's. Incision from behind the ear, down his neck and under his chin. I will be beside you in thought tomorrow as you wait for the surgery to be over. Lots of prayers for you, Len, Willie and Winnie. Lots of love, too :cuddle;
-
Lots of love, prayers and hugs for Willie!!!
Scooby and Luke are praying for Willie too!
-
Well, the wait begins. We took Willie at 8 this morning and the surgery is suppose to be afternoon early. It is so heartbreaking to leave him there with this scared look in his eyes. It is pouring down rain here and when we got home, Winnie was soaked, she went out the dogie door and stayed out the entire time we were gone. Oh Lord, the quilt. We will be sitting on pins and needles this afternoon. Please keep the prayers coming for our little furbaby. :cuddle;
-
you are all here with me in my heart
-
4:45, finally the Dr. called. Willie was waking up and moving around. He said the mass was very large and he had to put a drain in. He did a nerve block and was hopeful that Willie will have a peaceful night. He told me to stop and pick up a baby onies tomorrow before we come get Willie, that is the best thing to keep him from messing with the incision and the drain. I would of never thought of that. He told me to call about 9 tonight and the duty doctor will give me a update. I think Len is finally breathing again. Len has carried Winnie around most of the afternoon. We are taking her after dinner to see Christmas lights. These pets of ours are so spoiled. Thank you all for the prayers for our Willie and the rest of the family. I believe in the power of prayer. :cuddle;
-
Yeah, so glad Willie is doing great! :2thumbsup;
-
Glad to hear good news! :2thumbsup; There is nothing wrong with spoiled dogs---I think there are many here!! :cuddle;
-
Great news
:yahoo;
-
I just saw this post. I'm so glad Willie is okay! My two spoiled yorkies send a couple of big slobbery get well kisses.
-
My poor Pebbles got attacked by my friend's cat right in the kitchen! The cat had been stalking her for hours and finally got the chance and pounced. It clawed her on the head and back. Poor Pebbles was traumatized. She is so scared of everyone and everything and she has a reason. I have to take her to the vet today because the one on her back is hot and swelling up.
:secret; (When no one was looking I kicked the damn cat) :secret;
-
How awful Rerun. Poor Pebbles. Cat scratches and bites are among the worst too, they get infected very easily so it's a good idea to see the vet. I hope she gets better soon and no more holiday traumas. :cuddle;
-
Oh poor Pebblies, I hope she feels better once the Vet cleans her up!
-
The scratch had an abscess and she had to have a spot shaved so he could get the infection out, she got a shot and I had her nails trimmed and her anal glands expressed. $130 later we were out the door. I have to squeeze the spot 3 times a day and wipe it with peroxide and give her an antibiotic twice a day. Poor baby!
Bottom line if your dog gets scratched by a cat the vet told me if it breaks the skin get it to the vet for an antibotic and for it to be cleaned.
-
:cuddle; Sorry to hear about your pebbles.
Glad she is gonna be ok :clap;
Ps. :secret; dont kick cats even when there bad (please).
Go slap the cats owner upside his/her head :thumbup;
-
I had socks on and I just shoved it. That cat needs worse than a kick. It jumps up on the counter tops and knocks stuff off etc....
-
RERUN PEEK AT YOUR SECRET SANTA BOX AND YOU WILL FEEL SO MUCH BETTER
-
Very tempting TWIRL-GIRL!
I'm supposed to keep Pebbles wound open and squeeze puss out but I don't think anything is there. She seems fine. I don't know what to do.
-
Bless her little heart and your heart also
she is so little
will you take her to your sister's house
-
My sister has a cat also, but it is really not hers it is her daughters who lives next door. I told her I could not come out if the cat was in the house because it too likes to stalk Pebbles. They know Pebbles is scared and they think "Let the games begin". My sister said the cat could stay in the garage. So in answer to your question. Yes.
-
Rerun, do you want me to ask my brother any questions about Pebbles and what the vet said? I'm very happy to phone him if you let me know exactly what you need to know. He's a vet in Navarre, Florida.
-
Thanks Monrein, but I think we are good. She is eating, drinking and running around. I grab her about 3 times a day and take a look at the spot and try and squeeze it and then pour Peroxide over it. The she gets a treat. It seems fine. Thanks again.
-
Glad Pebbles is doing great
:cuddle; for Pebbles
:cuddle; for you
-
:thumbup; :flower;
-
I scratched the scab off one last time and no puss. I hate shit like this! Hate blood and guts! I put a bandaid on it and she doesn't much like that. I will take it off in a bit.
-
Wouldn't it be great if our darling dogs could speak english or we could woof dog lingo
It would make it so much easier
I know that my darling Gemma and I communicate but there are those times that you just need to hear the words
Lots of love to you both
Gemma and Jessup
Woof woof , yap yap :beer1; :beer1;
PS yeah puss is :puke;
-
may be have a photo of willie in his baby clothes
so glad all is going great
winnie will be so happy to see willie
:cheer:
-

I never knew this, wow I better watch out with Buster, he loves cats, and they generally hate him
-
I just read this, willieandwinnie ... poor, poor Willie. How's he doing now? We need an update.
-
Thank you everyone for the messages for Willie. Here's the update. We just got home from Vets. They removed the drain and container that they had stitch to his back. The pain patch is gone, now he just gets liquid pain medication at night. He looks just horrible. I do have some pictures I need to post but it will have to wait until a little later. I have not had 3 straight hours of sleep since last Monday. It is a full time job taking care of him. The vet said that his tongue will start to work more normally after the stitches have dissolved. The staples come out next Tuesday and he has 2 different collars to wear. I swear, Willie has more staples then Len did after his transplant. I am so behind with Christmas stuff that I plan on taking sleeping pills tonight and getting up early tomorrow to try and get stuff done and leave Willie in Len's care. Winnie has been just a doll baby through all of this and Len has been giving her extra attention and even letting her sleep with him since I am on the couch with Willie. We have had some say that they couldn't or wouldn't spend $2200 on a dog and that has really hurt my heart. This Vet is a specialist and he told us that Willie would of starved (he weights 7 pounds) to death or choke to death pretty soon had we not done something, how could we not. He is like a child to us. Again, thanks for the Willie prayers and for listening to me go on about our furbabies, as always, you guys are the best. :cuddle;
Pictures Added Later.
-
ohhhhhhhhhh,
looks so cute in his little night shirt
oh my gosh
he has really been thru it and so have you
I am glad he is home for Christmas
-
W/W,
Aww, that poor lil guy! I feel so badly for him, and
for you and Len. Yes, it is a lot of money to spend,
but when you love your pets, what else can you do?
I am sending you, Len and the pups :cuddle;
Kathy, I do hope you can get some sleep now - Lord knows
you must really need it!
Anne
-
so glad everything looks like it's going to be alright.
-
Hugs to all four of you. :grouphug;
-
Oh man that looks ouchie. I'm glad he has you to take such good care of him. Hope he feels better soon.
:cuddle;
-
So relieved to hear the little guy is on the mend.
I completely understand your feelings regarding paying for the treatment. Actually, I cannot comprehend doing otherwise. :cuddle;
-
Oh, poor little Willie. I know you'll take extra good care of him while he's mending, Kathy.
As for the question of how much people spend on their pets... whatever medical care my Hop-Sing needed, I would find a way (don't know how if it was really, really expensive, but I'd find a way) to make sure he had whatever he needed. Hop-Sing is a member of my family, and I love him. His life is worth more than money to me -- just as Willie's and Winnie's lives are to you, Kathy. The money you spent to keep your Willie well and alive is, in my opinion, money well spent.
Extra gentle hugs and kisses to Willie...
-
We spent over three thousand dollars on Missy Dog because she tore a ligament in her back leg!
-
our pets are worth every penny we send on them
and sometimes it is a small fortune
-
Poor pup - sending good wishes to Willie! :cuddle;
-
am so sorry to read about Willie's tough surgery. I am so glad that he is on the mend now. :cuddle;
-
Poor old Gemma was just given a sedative and put to rest at the vet. She wasn't eating or drinking today so ....................................
I made the right decision. It hurts but she did have a great life.
The house seems so empty
I can't bear to look at my avartar - think I might have to change it but not tonight
-
Jessup,
My heart goes out to you. I know what a terrible thing the
this is, we had to make this decision with three of our beloved
shih-tzu. As a doggie parent, even knowing this is the last
kind thing you can do for your pet is extremely tough.
Will say a prayer today for you,
Anne
-
Blessings on you. It hurts to lose a pet. :grouphug;
-
jessup, I am so so sorry about Gemma. My heart is broken for you. :grouphug;
As everyone knows, our little Willie has been through so much lately but God shined on us this morning. I woke up with Willie standing on my chest talking to me, the first time he has wanted to eat in weeks. Danced around the kitchen while I fixed his breakfast. That is all we wanted for Christmas. :bow;
-
I am so sorry
-
I am so sorry to hear about your little Gemma. :cuddle;
-
Jessup, so sorry about your pup. It's so hard to lose a love like that.
W&W, poor poor Willie! I just saw the pics. I'm so glad to hear he was begging for food today. I hope he continues to get better fast! Schatzie and Schnappi say Merry Christmas to Willie and Winnie! :santahat;
-
Jessup, so sad about poor Gemma, even if it was the kindest thing to do for her. She was a lucky pooch to have had you in her life and I know you feel lucky to have had her. :grouphug;
-
Missy liked the ham and turkey we had for lunch/dinner today as our main meal. Those soft brown eyes were hard to turn away!
-
Thanks you mob for your well wishes
So here's a freakyn story
Dear ol Gemma and I go to the vet
I come home on my own at 8:50 pm Christmas night
My sister phones me at 9:00 pm nand tells me this story
She and my 6 yr old niece saw two dogs (jack russel and a red heeler cattle dog) in the middle of one of the main roads here in Darwin. She stops the car because they didn't look road savvy and they were in the traffic island looking bemused and scattered. She put on the hazzard lights, opened the car door and got out to check out the dogs.
She touched their collars to see if they were registered and before she could blink they both jumped in her car.
So to cut a long story short my sis phones me (somewhat hesitant) and tells me the scenario. She has 2 dogs and so does mum and dad .....so the two dogs are at my house.
They are in very good condition but completely exhausted and their feet are red and sore., I posted www for lost and found dogs and the local vets, but of course it's boxing day so the vet said bring them in tomorrow and they will scan them for micro chips and hopefullyn find their owner.
The vet also said it was a blessing and ol
Gemma's way of saying thanks for putting her to sleep and guiding these two dogs to me because....
WTF I can't believe it.
So
-
:grouphug; Bless your heart jessup. Your sister is an angel to stop and help these poor puppies. Hope you find their owner. I know what a Jack Russell looks like (my daughter has one) but what is a red heeler cattle dog? Never heard of it. What should happen, will happen. Keep us posted. :cuddle;
-
Jessup, it's just amazing that those dogs found their way to you. Sorry to hear about Gemma. :cuddle;
-
What an amazing story! Please keep us updated!
-
Just a quick update on the two dogs that found their way to me.
Firstly - having them at home has really stopped me from crying about the loss of ol dear Gemma.
They spent two days and two nights with me = we all slept on the couch both nights!!
The two "girls" also slept on Gemma's inside and outside beds (I knew they were comfy and the two girls did too)
I had so much dog food in the cupboard so the girls got three meals a day
Their owner Mum saw the website (gotta love technology) and phoned me - wow she was so happy to see her girls and the girls were so happy to see their Mum
We spend about an hour together the four of us and exchanged phone no's so when I am ready to get a new dog we can all have a play day.
Their Mum spoils them rotton just like I did to Gemma so their Mum was very grateful
Now the house is so quiet. I go to the loo and shower and no one is looking at me with those beautiful brown eyes. I swear I have heard Gemma snoring and walking through the door so many times. I still miss her terribly. ::) :'( :'( :'(
-
Sorry to read of the loss of furry family members. We have all been there and felt the pain. Meet Rex, my 4 yr old boxer that I rescued 2 years ago...and YES it was definitely a rescue. When I got my lil man he weighed 30 lbs....now he weighs 90. He was starved, beaten and totally neglected. Now he sleeps on whichever piece of furniture he chooses, eats what his momma eats and lives the good life.
He shows unyielding devotion and after my transplant didn't even request a wrestling match. They can tell when we aren't quite right. He even tries to reward me whenever he can...last week he carted a possum through the doggie door!! YIKES! He IS my support system!
-
A possum! Holy yikes! Our cat has brought in mice and leaves, but never the dog with a possum!
-
Rex is beautiful! I am thinking about another dog maybe something like a boxer, when I do take the plunge it will be through the SPCA
There is a FUNNY clip in YouTube about a boxer speaking
-
This is where I got my 2 Min-Pins. You go down to "Dogs Available" and pick your state.
http://www.minpinrescue.org/
-
These are our two possum hunters behaving themselves for our Christmas card. Kallie the Border Collie and Henry the Tibetan Spaniel.
-
A tibetan spaniel! I love those! I saw them on animal planet about a year ago on a dog show, and I loved them! I want one..but my boyfriend of 4 years ADORES pugs. So I may have to steal Henry.
-
STEAL HENRY!!!... Over my wife's deed body!! :Kit n Stik;
Henry is the 2nd Tibetan Spaniel we've had... George was 14 years old before a car unfortunately got the better of him.
They are a great breed of dog and have a great temperament, I would recommend them to anyone .
-
I've never seen one in the US.. sigh. :'(
-
Oh Rex is definitely a gorgeous boy
Kallie and Henry look like professional models - great posers
:thumbup; :thumbup; :thumbup;
-
Jessup, I just saw this so sorry about Gemma, sounds alot like Daisy and the vet said her kidneys had failed too, it6s been 3 months since we had daisy put to sleep and every time i drive up the drive way i expect to see her take care :cuddle;
-
no more serenading me when I drive the van into the cul - de -sac
no more neighbors stopping by to get their pet's empty feed bowls
no more sad begging eyes
no more sneaking under my bed with your big butt hanging out -- thinking we can not see you
no more friends calling to say you "broke" into their houses and you would be coming home soon
no more running down the drive way if anyone is carrying a water hose and a towel
no more watching you drink from the pool, while laughing and hoping you fall in
no more food and water scattered over the kitchen tile - so you do not get your long ears wet
no more finding headless snake bodies in our yard
no more Sad Sack

That's a beautiful, heartfelt obituary, Twirl, and it made me cry. RIP Sad Sack.

WW- how is little Willie doing? What a precious little pup. I do hope that all is good, he looks just like my little Harley did. Miss him deeply!! :grouphug;
-
Thanks for asking harley. Here some pictures of Willie and his best buddy Winnie. He is doing really well except his tongue isn't right anymore and it takes him a while longer to eat. :cuddle;
-
OMG
they are beautiful
wow - hasn't Willie healed quickly
obviously all the love and care has worked wonders

W&W,
Our dogs need to get together for a playdate! That would be so cute... Four little bundles of black and brown fur running about.
-
I'm not really a dog person (sorry!) but wanted to share this link. Beautifully written story about a beloved dog... have tissues ready

Thanks RM for making me cry already this morning!! :cuddle;
-
our cow dog, Yogi, is greiving for Sad Sack
he runs around the back yard like he is looking for something and he howls
he stops at her favorite spots in the yard and whines
he will not eat his black eyed peas with bacon
he used to love to gulp those down before Sad Sack finished hers
I guess the fun is gone
-
:'( Poor Yogi.
-
:'(
-
Oh twirl, I am so sorry. When Sydney passed, we got Winnie because Willie was so lonesome. :cuddle;
-
:grouphug;
-
Phew, well I picked up Chloe in our 45 degree C heat. Lucky it's a short drive. She is just fine. Now resting under the conditioner.
-
My Grandpuppy, Rocco
-
Cute puppie!
-
Rocco is really cute! :flower;
How old is he?
-
He's 18 months old
And in his mind he is 10 ft tall and bulletproof!
-
Awwwwwww!!! How cute!
It's funny, because my 70 pound dog thinks she's about 7 pounds. The smaller they are, the bigger they think they are and the bigger they are, the smaller they think they are!
-
Wenchie - What a cute! So adorable!
Twirl - Sorry about your pooch being so sad. Luke was the same way when Skye died. The days following her passing, Luke would lay around and just whine and cry. We finally had to adopt another dog for Luke. Now Luke wishes Scooby wasn't around at times when he eats his food or nips at him in play ;). He wouldn't eat or drink, he was very lifeless. We don't realize sometimes how much our pets miss their playmates.
-
Cute puppy picture of the day. I just couldn't resist posting it!
-
Is that a Weimereiner?
-
Awwwww can almost smell puppy breath!
-
Is that a Weimereiner?
Yes. It's from www.DailyPuppy.com (http://www.DailyPuppy.com).
-
Yogi sits in the back yard and howls and howls since Sad Sack is gone -
Sad Sack was in the house a lot but Yogi must know she is gone-
Yogi goes to the places in the yard where Sad Sack would sit and he cries and howls-
I do not know what to do - I let Yogi in the house more than ever but when my husband gets home he needs to go outside -
he is a big clucky dog and is like a steer in a china house
- he is grieving -- but for how long
-
This is our goofy dog Elizabeth she is a chocolate lab and almost 1 1/2 years old. She is a wild one. She sits on the floor with our 14 year old daughter and will lay her head on the youngins shoulder for a hug. Katy (the youngin) has taught her how to give a high five. When we ask Lizzy if she wants to go for a ride she goes in the middle of the dining room and dances in circles, it's hysterical to see. I have a video of it here somewhere i'll have to get loaded up to youtube and post the link. she's a hoot and I'm not a big dog person, I like my cats lol

He's gorgeous Vicki! But then again, labs are my favorite, so I'm partial!
-
Elizabeth is a real cutie pie!

Awww chocolates ROCK! I had one, he was my hundred pound baby....someone stole him out of my yard! Miss him terrible, but in my mind he is somewhere with a boy..and a ball...his favorite place to be!
-
OMG Wenchie! That's absolutely horrible! I just don't understand how people can do that. They obviously care more about money than the fact that they are stealing a member of one's family!

I thought you might like to see this photo of my friend's great Dane, Eve and her puppy (their second GD) Stella. So adorable. Eve can drink from the sink, but of course she isn't allowed to.

How cute! Thanks for sharing, monrein.
-
Awwww! Glad I'm not rich or I would have to get one of each!
-
That is soooo cute!!! I love GD's, especially uncropped ones! I almost took one home when I worked at the vet's. The only reason I didn't was because it wouldn't have fit through the dog door when he grew up.

Cute I had to send it to my friend in Sacramento who loves Great Danes.
:cuddle;

the one on top looks like a piglet
I thought it was a Dane and a piglet
look at his snout
and the cat looks like a thin Garfield
Yogi is standing in the pool drinking water and howling -- sounds like he is gargling
-
Here's one where Stella the pup looks like she's trying to have some milk and a nap at the same time.

now Yogi has taken to standing in the pool, drinking some water and howling --- sounds like he is gargling
I called the vet and he said pool water will not hurt him -
he comes in the house as long as my husband is gone

Twirl, I'd love to see a photo of Yogi...almost as much as I'd like to see one of you. :cuddle;

I used to have a Beagle named Yogi. My Mom has him now. He loves tracking things out in the yard and howling.
