Hi. I'm psim, and I live on a beautiful little island off the west coast of Canada. :canadaflag; I’m 56 and have CKD from primary hyperparathyroidism. (Ya know, it’s amazing to be somewhere where I can write hyperparathyroid and not have to explain what it means!) By the time I was diagnosed, one kidney was totally blocked by stones and had to be removed, and the other was failing from trying to filter all that calcium for so many years.
I’m still pre-dialysis, with a GFR of 22, but have started feeling really tired all the time. I’m so happy to have found this site, with so many folks who have walked this road before me generously offering to share their experience. Thank you for being here. And thank Epoman for starting it all. His presence is so strong here – I wish I could have met him.

Welcome to our community! My welcome is a bit late as I am away from home (British Virgin Islands) for the weekend in Antigua (didn't see Britney any time ;D). This computer I am using is a real donkey cart - slow, slow, slow, so it is a bit painful. But I am so glad that you found us. You are not going to regret it. There is so much here, as you have probably discovered already. Not only that, but this is not a website; it is a family. So take advantage of ALL this site has to offer, and keep posting. We need to know how you are doing, because we will always be there for you (and with you) :grouphug;

Which island?

Which island?
Do you know the area? I live on Hornby Island, the most beautiful of all the Gulf Islands, floating between Vancouver Island and the mainland (north of the San Juan Islands, for you US-types). Living in the midst of all this natural splendour takes alot of the bite out of kidney failure -- even though I'm tired all the time, I can still walk on the beach and life feels very worthwhile. I just hope I get to stay here through all the ups and downs to come.

Yup, island living is what it is about! :clap;
Natural splendour, beaches, you name it!

Welcome aboard from another Canadian. My GFR is also around 22 and I am tired a lot as well. Its hard for other people ( not here ) that have good kidneys to understand. We look OK so we are just expected to he perfectly healthy. Do you still work ? Lets stay in touch. :canadaflag;

You said it! I went and checked out the pics of the Virgin Islands on your website -- what a beautiful place! Do you find that being close to nature helps you get through your day?

Welcome aboard from another Canadian. <snip> Do you still work ? :canadaflag;
Hi Razman, great to see so many other Canadians here, and people from all over the world! I guess Toronto is about as far from my little island as you can get in Canada (in size if not geographically). I do still work, but only part time -- the fatigue and confusion mean I can't do alot that I used to. How do you cope with it?
