Title: Sad and lonely for a kitty...
Post by: goofynina on March 26, 2007, 12:37:01 PM
Hello my wonderful IHD family,  it's just me, Goofynina, wanting to share my woes with you.  I dont know why but my hubby will not let me have a cat.  I would love to have one to be with me at night since my hubby is working and i am home all by myself.  I dont think he realizes just how much happier i would be.  So much that is going on in my life right now, i think a cat would and could very much be what my life is missing.  Eh, who am i kidding, he will probably just say no again.  I will keep you all posted on my "Quest for a Cat" as it continues full force (like as soon as he gets off work) ;)  Thanks to you all for your support.  Wish me luck.  :thumbup;

Susie...I would do alot for you but I have to tell you something.  I don't care for cats.  There is something about trying to be nice to them as a kid and always getting a ration of claws no matter how nice I was.  Sorry but I'm with Sam on this one.

Now how about a nice dog?  A dog will be your good buddy, do what you want it to do, ride happily in the back of your pickup, and scare intruders away.  What more besides a new kidney could you possibly want?

Sam is the man this time, my vote is with your old man.

Cats are cool.
Livecam,
What kind of dog do you have?

Title: Why do cats make great house pets?
Post by: okarol on March 26, 2007, 01:29:27 PM
We have 2 cats - boys - Tiger and Woody. Both were rescued from their potential demise when we adopted them. Woody was from a litter of ferrel kittens whose mother was captured and spayed. He is a great mouser, ratter, moler, birder and keeps our property rodent free. Tiger was from the humane society, abandoned and bottle fed by the staff. He has no hunting skills whatsoever, but is a lover and talker and can open doors on the cabinets and let us know when Woody has gotten himself trapped in the garage or under the house when mousing.

Cats make great house pets because they listen without interrupting and don't complain about your cooking.  They wait up for you to get home and get up with you in the morning.  They can bathe themselves , don't need to be taken for a walk and keep the mice away. They are very loving and affectionate and have a sense of humor.

I too have 2 cats who were rescued as kittens.
They were so tiny and weak and sickly back then but have thrived.
One is black, one is gold.  Brother and sister.
One very affectionate and wants attention, the other shy.
I used to have a dog which I loved, but a cat is more convenient now like
if I go away for a day or 2 I can just put out extra food and water and they
can take care of themselves, unlike a dog which needs to be let in and out, etc.
They are a lot of company.  Good pets cats are.

Dear Sam:

I have heard that you are a very caring and considerate man, I also know that Susie has so much love to give that she feels that she should share it with a sweet warm cuddly kitty!

Cats are the ultimate "cool" animal; once you love it you will never imagine its personality.

I do hope that you reconsider your "NO" about a cat, because you will never know what you are missing out on :)

Susie,

Since you were so sweet about it maybe there is something I can do.  Give me Sam's number.  Maybe we can bribe him with something.  What is his favorite restaurant and what does he like to eat?  The sure way to a man's heart is through his food filter.

Sincerely,

P. Daddy

Sam,

I'm not going to try and sweet talk you. ;)  Let Susie have a cat, it will add to her happiness and even though you may not want a cat, Susie's happiness will be very rewarding.  A small price to pay for such a wonderful lady.

Sincerely,
George

Dear Sam,

Letting Nina get a kitty will benefit her health - it's been medically proven.

"American, Australian and British studies have shown that pet dogs and cats confer health benefits on their owners. This paper reports results from the first national survey (N = 1011) estimating the magnitude of these benefits. The survey showed that dog and cat owners make fewer annual doctor visits and are less likely to be on medication for heart problems and sleeping difficulties than non-owners. An important public policy implication is that pet ownership probably reduces national health expenditure. By linking sample survey results to data on health expenditure, the paper proposes a method of estimating savings. A preliminary estimate of savings of $988 million is given for Australia for financial year 1994--95."

See the full article - http://www.springerlink.com/content/m8g7286044411447/

The cost savings in medical expenses will more than cover the small expenditure needed to take care of a cat.

Evidence for long term effects of pet ownership on human health
By J.A. Serpell

Reprinted from Pets, Benefits and Practice.  Waltham Symposium 20, April 19, 1990, Courtesy of Waltham.

Abstract

To determine the impact of pet ownership on human health and well-being, a 10-month prospective study was carried out which investigated changes in behaviour and health status in 71 adult subjects following the acquisition of a new pet (either a dog or a cat). A non-matching control group of 26 subjects without pets served as a comparison over the same period. The control group exhibited no statistically significant changes in any health or lifestyle variable apart from a small increase in walking between the beginning and end of the study. In contrast, both pet-owning groups reported a highly significant reduction in minor health problems during the first month following pet acquisition. . .

Kitties are small, cuddly, and low-maintenance.  Purring is a wonderfully soothing sound that occurs at a frequency that is proven to have healing benefits.  Kitties also make people smile and laugh with their silly antics.  Laughter also has proven health benefits.

Besides, how can you resist this?

Dear Sam,

I know you only know me by the screen name Sluff. And you just may want to keep it that way. Did I mention I'm a big guy? Well anyway I was wondering if you could let Susie get a cat? If you don't I may have to pay you a visit. Did I mention I am a black belt in karate? Anyways Susie has been a good friend of mine for awhile now and I think she should be rewarded for all the hard work she does and what better way to reward her than to get her a kitty. After all everyone likes a little kitty (word substitute required) once in awhile right.

Your friend  ;D

P.S. Did I mention I was a blackbelt?  ;)

Let her have the cat!!  Animals are proven stress reducers and a cat is.......well you don't have to walk it, you don't have to clean out the tank, you don't have to really do anything.  They're very lovable and sweet, no trouble at all.

Let her have the cat!!!!!!!!!!!!!   :thx; :thx;

Dear Sam,
     Come one, Man...Where is the love? Let the little woman have a cat.  You will find they are nice pets.  Not at all like the dog you have. Here are several reasons you should let her have a cat:

Cats tend to take over the house.
They are easy maintenance.
It will give the lady something to love on.
You might earn lots of kudos with the wife.

The last reason--my big stick!

Sam,

I am a huge animal lover and have several cats and dogs in my home.  Each are good for different reasons, but cats have some advantages that dogs don't.  Here is a list of my reasons.

1. Great at keeping mice out of your home.
2. Never have to take them out for a walk
3. Never get woken up in the middle of the night or before you want to get up on the weekends because they need to go out.
4. They make great companions.
5. If you get sick or are upset they seem to know somehow and cuddle with you more to try and make you feel better.
6. Having a cat sitting in your lap and petting it has been medically shown to be a great stress reliever.
7. During the winter you stay warmer at night because you have a cat curled up with you. (The more you have the warmer you stay)
8. Your wife really, really wants one.
9. You would be scoring points with Susie, and from some of her posts here I think you would be scoring big in return.  >:D

How can you go wrong with all those reasons?  It's not like she wants to become the crazy cat lady on the Simpsons. She just wants a cat to fill the void you leave when your not home that the dogs just can't fill.  Cats and dogs show their affection in different ways.  Dogs lick and slobber on you where as cats purr and rub on you.

Sam, dear, sweet Sam, let Goofynina have a cat!  She'll love the cat so much that she'll love you even more!  Besides, cats:
1.  are clean and (more or less) neat.
2.  are relatively cheap to take care of.
3.  don't have to be taken for walks outside in bad weather.
4.  are always there for you to talk to when you're sad.
5.  love you unconditionally - you can be ugly, poor, stupid, and (insert political party here), and they still think you're wonderful every time they see you.
6.  are guaranteed to make you laugh a lot.

If I could find a guy like that, I'd probably marry him!   ;)

Woo Hoo Susie gets a cat... :2thumbsup; :clap; ;D :yahoo;

Just be sure to go to a reputable animal shelter in your area and see what you like.  Shelters usually have MANY cats available so the pickings will be good. The cages should have description tags on them that will give you info on the cats such as name, age, sex, background story if available, likes and dislikes (if they get along with dogs, other cats, children), and if they are housebroken.  If not just be sure to ask the kennel person and I'm sure they can give you the info you desire.  Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

Please, try to save a life, however you can - The a@holes who originally had my sweet little orange cat, Cameron, sprayed her and her siblings with poison to kill fleas (no, not flea spray, POISON - how stupid is that?).  Then, realizing they'd made a  mistake (DUH), they dropped them off anonymously at the vet's (thank God for that, at least).  They all died except Cameron, and the vet who saved her couldn't bring herself to take her to the shelter, but couldn't keep her, either.  She let Cameron hang out at the office (she worked under contract to another vet) as long as she could, until her boss-vet was insisting she get on with putting her in the shelter, and it just so happened I was looking for a cat at that time.  I asked my boss if he knew anyone who had a cat who needed a home, and his best friend was married to this vet, and---Cameron came into my life.  She's the sweetest thing ever, not a mean bone in her body, and I think she's part of my soul.  Believe me, the world is better for having her sweetness in it, and I have the complete pleasure of knowing I have done something utterly good.  PLEASE?  PRETTY PLEASE?  Believe me, you will never regret it.

Almost all of the animals I have (9 cats & 2 Dogs) are shelter finds or strays that decided they need to move in after they have been eating all the stray food we leave out.  One of the dogs we found as a pup in the paper but the owners were going to bring them to a shelter if they couldn't find them homes so it's not too far off.  All of them are extremely affectionate and they give us every bit of love back that we give them plus some.  Either way though some of the animals we have were very badly mistreated by previous owners.  One of the cats that came in as a stray was very bad off.  When we got him his jaw was fractured and his whiskers looked like they had been singed off.  Another one that came in as a stray is the sweetest thing in the world.  He was declawed and fixed when he came in, so we couldn't figure why someone would toss him out.  The only thing we can figure is that when you scratch him he has a licking OCD and he has one of the roughest tongues you will ever feel.  They previous owners must not have liked it and just tossed him out.

NextNoel, i am going to ask Sam if he will take me to the shelter and bring me OUT the kitties one by one,  i just cant stand the thought of those little kitties reaching their paws through those cages, (see, my eyes are watering already)  And seeing all the sad dogs, oh no no no, i just cant go in there.   :'(

Well, i called the pound today, the chick was down right rude, i felt like telling her "i hope you dont treat those poor helpless animals the way you treat the customers"  Ugh, i hate rude people, anyways,  she said they will NOT let Sam take each kitten out so i can see it, so, it looks like i am going in, it's gonna be hard but the only reason why i want to get one at the pound is because if it wasnt for you all and this site, i really dont think he would've ever agreed to letting me have one.  So i am going to rescue one for all of you,  i am trying to think of a name though, something for a boy or a girl and it pertains to this site, how 'bout Buttonhole, lol, no waaaay, i just now decided its NOT going to have a name pertaining to dialysis. I am trying to forget it, what was i thinking  :banghead;

Susie, you'll survive your shelter experience just fine!  It isn't easy, but it isn't as hard as you're probably imagining it to be, either!  And look what you'll have when you leave!

How's this for the critter's name:  Sweetpea (ha!)  ;)

Oh it is wonderful if you will get a cat from a shelter... definitely wonderful to save a cat!!!

Can I suggest you maybe look at/consider a slightly older cat eg: 8+ months old, 1/2 years... their personality will have settled a bit and might be a bit easier to handle than kittens.. plus the slightly older cats usually get neglected because everyone wants a cute little kitten.

I think you should go in and let the cats come to you and see how they react to you (and you to them) as well as sam to get a bit of an idea... having a strange person picking them up and carrying them to you might be a bit much.. I find a cat will decide pretty quickly if they think you're OK or not - when it's on their terms :)

Anyway I am so glad you are getting a furry friend... it will be wonderful!!!

To help Sam adjust to the idea of having a cat in the house you could call it puppy.  Just Kidding.

You really have to wait until you see the cats and pick one before you decide on a name.  It's all about their looks and personality when giving them a name.  After all what would be the point of calling a short haired cat fluffy.  That would be like calling a dachshund (wiener dog) Killer.

RichardMel,  that makes all the sense in the world, i will definetly look at the older cats too, i am honestly not looking forward to going in that shelter but i am going to do it for all of you ;)  We are going to wait until next week cuz hubby will be off all week and he will have time to take me then, so for now i am going to the store and getting all my supplies, I GET A CATTY ;)  WOOHOOOO  :clap;

Don't forget catnip, but if your cat will be allowed outdoors, make sure you don't give it any near the time it goes out (it impairs their senses somewhat, making it more likely they'll do something stupid and get hurt or run over).

What does catnip do for them anyways?  I never bought it for any of my cats but Okarol says she bought it for her cat.   :thumbup;

Glad to hear it'll be indoors only - that makes for a longer lifespan, and much fewer problems for the owner.  Catnip affects cats like drugs or alcohol do humans - they get really wacky on it, and many of them LOVE it - they're hysterical to watch when they're "drunk".  Some, however, don't like it.  One of my loves it, and goes tearing around the house and playing like mad when she has it, jumping all over and fluffing up and pouncing on everything.  The other one looks at me as if I'm nuts to be offerring it to her, and ignores it completely.

You're in for such a treat with this new addition to your family!

Good names for kitties -

Aclysm
Alina
Alyst
Apult
and don't forget Mandu!

Hehehehehehehe

Catnip reacts differently in different kitties.  Some vets believe it actually makes them hallucinate, which is why they run around and chase things that aren't there.  Other kitties just get very mellow and relaxed.  So, basically, they get stoned.

Hmmm, sounds verrrrry interesting, do they have people nip?  I'd like to slip some in my hubby's drink and watch him bounce around the house, i might even let him play with the broom and mop and see if i can get help with the cleaning around here, lol,  ::) :P

Yep, people nip is commonly referred to as "Scotch", or "Whiskey"!

Don't forget to put fresh film & batteries in your camera - I'm hoping for lots of cute photos of your (and Sam) "bonding" with your new love. :)

Hmmmm, there must be "catnip" in his "bud light" cuz although it doesnt make him bounce off the walls, he sure gets FRISKY when he drinks it ;)

Cats are very perceptive and can tell when you need them... like when you're feeling low or sick or whatever.. and they KNOW.. they can also tell a cat lover.. I think you will be fine Mina... soon you will wonder how you ever lived without your furry feline friend snuggled up with you purring and licking your hand in love...

my thoughts (and celeste's too.. when she's awake :) ) are with you!!

This is absolutely so very true RichardMel,  it had been a couple of months since i had went out to mom's for a visit (she lives in the country and she always comes into town) and i had known my Goddaughter (lil Susie) mom has full custody of her, well, i had known she had gotten a kitty, i just never had seen it, well, one day i went over there and the cat wanted NOTHING to do with me, kept running from me when i tried to touch it so i gave up.  Me and my Goddaughter had gotten into a heated argument which left me in tears, and that cat came up to me and starting caressing my arm with his head, it was the darndest thing, one good thing was Sam witnessed it, that cat was all over me while i cried.  To me, it was a beautiful experience, not with my Goddaughter though, little brat, but with that darn cat ;) ;)

Mina,

This is exactly why I am a cat lover (oh and the fact that my cat cleans herself and does her business in the right spot :) ).

I just know with Celeste that she can still surprise me with knowing just when I need her close and the encouragement of a little catty head butt or I need my space.... or if I'm feeling tired and flat after a session she will just sit quietly with me and not demand her dinner or bug me for anything.... you can't teach those kinds of things but like I said.. Cats *know* and they give such undemanding love and support it's amazing.

I'd be lost without my furry friend... :)

and Ran says he talks in his sleep, too! He was hanging out with Ran yesterday while I was at work. Awww!!!

The plan was i was going to stay in the lobby and they were going to bring me out cats that they think i might like,  when we drove up i was so excited and sad at the same time, just knowing that there are so many unwanted dogs and cats there and i cant take them home or show them just a little love, but i was happy with the decision of adopting one there.  We walk in and asked to see them (they are kind of rude in there) i really didnt want to stay in the lobby with them so i decided to go into the shelter and view them WHAT A MISTAKE!!  I started bawling, not crying, bawling like a baby seeing all them adorable little dogs and cats, it took me a minute to be able to even focus,  thank God Sam was with me, i had a good strong shoulder to lean on.   Once i stopped bawling (but still crying just not as hard) i start looking at all the cats,  most of them were big cats, sleeping, not paying any attention to who or what the hell was going on, didnt think they cared less (dont blame them either, poor babies)  Then, there was one cat, reaching out as far as possible to us, just paying all the attention in the world to us, i was sold,  i asked to hold her and i knew, she is the one, I LOVE HER, soooo, we go outside to sign the adoption papers,  they needed to call the assesor (sp)  to verify that we own the home we live in, well guess what, they have no records of our address, so there we go, flying home to find our tax papers to verify our address, find them and then we go get my baby,  (nameless baby at this point) ;)   We have her home now, safe and sound and she is still trying to adapt to where the hell she is,  i know this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship and i have all you to thank for it.  I will be posting pics in the pets thread so please, come have a look at her and help me think of what i can possibly name her.  Thank again my family....  :clap;

Allright, that does it!!  Does anyone want a cat?? lol, (just kidding)  i have shorts on and damn it if that cat didnt come and show me affection by rubbing up on my leg and trying to jump up on my laps,  i reached down to pet her and she was just eatin' it up, literally, bit me, oh Lord, grant me the patience with this child :P :P lol,  she has already pottied in her box  :clap;  but she  hasnt eaten or drank any water yet,  maybe that is why she bit me huh?  My hands must smell like taco's.   ::)

I haven't been here much lately -- living in chaos at the moment! However, I had to check in to see if Goofynina had her new cat yet. Congratulations!  :clap; I think Marley is a fine name for a girl cat. I have a female cat named Clyde, and yes, I knew she was female when I "stole" her because she was obviously very pregnant.

Thank you Deanne, she is a joy, this is my first day with her and, well, to put it nicely, she is driving me crazy ;)  cuz i am so in love with her, it is so weird cuz so many things i worry about on a daily basis, i havent even thought of them once, lol,  i have been with her all day since i got her home and i just barely fed my hubby dinner (at 9pm), lol,  and here i am right back in the room with her,  i put her on my desk but she seemed a little scared so she is sleeping by my feet, sure, after she sliced my leg open, lol, nah,  but thank you for checking in and i will be posting all my lovely and not so lovely experiences with my feline friend so come back to check up on us k,  nice to see ya and i hope your life settles down soon.   :cuddle;

Mina,

Don't worry about the not eating/drinking thing. That's normal. Consider for kitty she's just had a big move from
somewhere she was a little used to to a big new home (for her!) with all the unfamiliar smells, noises, places etc.
Sounds like she's making herself at home right away and will be in charge in no time :) If she doesn't eat in 2-3
days then worry, but she's found her litter tray which is a great thing so you shouldn't have any problems there now
she knows where to go, and she will be ok with the food once she calms down and starts to feel comfy in her
new home.. Don't try to force her to eat or drink.. she'll do it when she needs it.

There's good signs that she's feeling comfy if she sleeps right by your foot and stuff... that shoes a level of trust
and a bond is already developing between you two. Seems like she knows who mom is already :)

how adorable... I love thinking about those special times and how many more you will both have together :)

purrrr!

She is a baby adjusting to a new environment.  Sounds like she is already playing with you (scratching and bitting) so that is good.  It's also good that she has used the litter box.  Also if she is already laying with you and sleeping on or near you that is great.  She is bonding to you already.  If she hasn't eaten yet that's not bad, she will eat when she is good and ready.  I also see by the pictures that you got her some toys.  Good idea or you will always be the toy.  Just one word of warning though, if she sleeps in the bed with you guys cats love to attack any movement from under the sheets so watch what you play with if the cat is right there.  You or Sam might get a painful surprise.

Thank you all for the kind words, and thank you Anja, that was a cool poem you wrote, made me feel proud that someone actually took the time to think of a poem for me and my "baby"  thank you.

Well, we got through night #1,  I am not able to sleep with her for fear she will bite through my tubing (thanks for the info Lisa/Carson)  :2thumbsup; while i am asleep, so for now, i put her in my office (big room) where her litter box, food and water, toys, cat scratcher (with catnip) is.  Even busted out a homemade raider blanket that is now all hers, but apparently, she prefers to sleep on my computer chair (which is just fine with me)  I peeked in on her several times last night, she hasnt cried once.  As we speak, she was wondering around the room, slapping at a few toys and ended up at my feet again, isnt that AWESOME  :2thumbsup;  I just love her and i cant believe she is mine,  still havent finalized her name yet, it will probably either be Marley or Mina (what RichardMel calls me)  :)  but then again, i do like Minky or Minx ohhhhh decisions decisions...  ::)

Someone from the Humane Society stopped by the clinic during my dialysis session today.  She brought three kittens for everyone to play with.  Awwwwwwww! I sooooooooo wanted to take one home with me - itty bitty all black baby, except for a white tip on her tail.  *sigh* - I've got one, and I adore her, but geez, it's hard to resist them when they hand 'em over while you are stuck in that chair!

My mom just called me and she said that my kitty is in the local paper,  i guess they placed her up for adoption as a "Pet of the Week" before i went and got her, i am going to get the paper and scan the photo and share it all with you,  i'm so proud, my baby is a STAR ;)  That is probably where the attitude comes from huh? aye yi yi, that little precious thing.  It's funny cuz now, she will actually sit there and let me take pics of her, lol,  just me and my baby. yep yep..  :clap;

So far things have been working out ok,  but then again it has only been 3 days :P  but i still am putting her in the office at night and shutting the door, i dont want her getting into my room and chewing on my tubes, its bad enough she chews on my shoe strings, cords under the desk (which i think i've cured her of that with my spray bottle) ;)  and anything else she finds to play with.  When i get up in the morning i come in here, to get on the pc, leave the door open and there she stays by my feet, she has not left this room since day one,  i am not going to push her and i hope she does go explore other parts of the house, but i guess for now, she is doing great.  Jbeany,  come on, you can get another one ;)  Oh, i would love to have two cats,  i feel sooo much better already,  i can sit here and watch her play and talk baby talk to her all day long, can you just imagine if i had two?? oh man,  ::)  ;)

Ohh, ok, gotcha, i found myself asking if i can sit on my computer chair while she is stretched out on it, whether she moves or not, is totally up to her, if she doesnt move, then i just sit in the other chair until she does, yes, i can understand totally,  for she (my kitty) is my Queen of the house already, and i think she knows it ;)

I will pick up whichever cats is curled up in my computer chair at the time and put them on my lap.  I do it in a way that I not changing their position just moving them.  They usually just look up at me and go back to sleep.

Sorry NINA I don't know how I got that wrong name in my head :(

Marley is just getting used to her territory and why should she want to leave the office room when YOU are there... she has obviously bonded with you and you feed her and spend time with her etc so there is your bond... I am sure she will explore when you are out of the house if you leave the door open for her to go wandering.. when she can do it on her terms she will and become more confident.

Has she eaten yet? I assumr she has but wanted to check :)

she sounds adorable and totally loving.. and also the queen of the castle. Just wait till she also has Sam under her little paw and he does things for her and lets her sit where she likes etc hehehe

oh and my cat is fine in the bedroom.. she doesn't attack things under the covers she just sits there and snuggles. When I have had someone in bed with me the funniest thing she would do was wait till we were asleep cuddled up.. then we'd wake up in the morning with me on one side, her on the other side and smack in the middle looking innocent and soaking up the heat from both is Celeste - still no idea how she did that all the time! After awhile it became a bit of a joke between I and my gf.. and I think she secretly looked forward to it even though she grumbled lol

(I can understand the concern about the tubes though.. I would be too.. maybe when she is older and settled down, but no way as a kitten).

Hi RichardMel,  no apologies needed about the name, i thought it was kinda cute :P  As for my kitty, her name is now Xena, The Warrior Princess :P  It fits her perfectly i must say (thank you Brenda)  She is slowly coming out of the room, yesterday i was in bed most of the day cuz i was feeling sick, and she wouldnt leave my side,  when i did come to the office, she came and got on her hind legs so i can pick her up and we just cuddled (i cried of course)  the beauty of it all just touches me like nothing else i can imagine.  Sam has already started saying i love that cat more than him, i told him it was a tie ;)  he is cool with the cat, thank goodness, As for her eating?  I cant keep her bowl full, seems like everytime i turn around it's almost empty, and believe me, it is coming out just as fast as its going in,  thank goodness for scoopable litter ;)    Right now Xena is curled up on my bed,  hubby brought her to me this morning and she is nice and comfy on my pillows.  How can i ever show each and everyone of you my gratitude for helping me get my kitty. I am so thankful, you just dont know it,  :2thumbsup;  :clap;

Is that for better clumps or odor control Kit?  I could use both :P

It is not a clumping kitty litter, but it works great for odor control. All you do is dump the box once a week and refill it.  The odor control is great. It absorbs the urine and smell.

The way Xena is letting it out, i would need to dump it like every other day, i better stick to my clumping litter, aye yi yi, this little girl of mine :P  Thanks for the info though Kit... :cuddle;

Aww Nina I have tears in my eyes reading your latest about Xena not leaving your side when you were feeling sick and cuddling on your bed. She has so bonded with you and see knows when you need TLC and even Sam seems to be taking to her. Sounds like the first days of a years of wonderful company and happiness.

About the food.. remember to not just fill the bowl if it is empty or you will get a fat cat very quick! I know she is a kitten and needs her food but try and keep a lid on how much she is fed. What I did and do with mine is give her a set amount and she eats it.. that's it... and no amount of crying or badgering will get her more (she has since stopped and knows when dinner time is but usually won't bug me unless she feels I've short changed her :) ).

That's my advice on that topic.

I'm so glad it's working out so well for you with Xena... very happy :) I'm sending her a cuddle across the miles :)

HI Goofynina.  I have been feeling very unwell and just reading all these posts about Xena tonight has made me feel so much better.  I am glad she is giving you so much happiness.  I have a new puppy because I am allergic to cats and she is really cute.  I thought she was a boy until I took her to have her first shots and then I found out she was a girl.  We had named her Harry because our surname is Potter so we have just changed the spelling to an "i" instead of a "y" and she is still Harri.....and she is a handful but I love her to death.  I already have an irsih wolfhound cross that is as big as a horse and Harri is a cross toy so they look pretty funny together.  I think Sam is terrifc for letting you have your kitten.  I really didn't give Paul the choice with the new puppy.  His son was living with us and the whole world was revolving around them being together that I just went out one day and came home with Harri.  If he can have his son live with us without asking me before he asked him to live with us then I reckon it was OK for me to get the puppy.

Anyhow, you enjoy your kitty and love it as much as you want........Sam will think it is very cute and he'll love that you are so happy. xxxxxxxx

If you are having that much trouble keeping her bowl full make sure the dogs aren't getting into it.  I know my dogs wont pass up the chance to get at the cat food so we had to put it up on a table to keep them out.

Nope, its her, all her, lol, i have not yet introduced my dog to my kitty, she is barely starting to venture across the hall and into my room, i tried to take her to the living room but she got spooked and jumped out of my arms and back to her room (office)  so when she is more comfortable, i will let them sniff each other through the screen, Jane is amazing and i do not believe she would hurt Xena, i am more afraid of Xena hurting Jane, lol, that darn cat :P  and i love her :)
