I have been working for 8 weeks straight on a volunteer project - we raise money for children's music programs and community grants. We still have 8 weeks more until we open but I am leaving town for 5 days to visit a friend in NY. She is there for a month from Paris so it's a great chance to get away. I miss everyone on the forum and have been hopping on when I can, but I really appreciate Sluff being here and running everything.
Looking forward to a much needed break - even sleeping would be nice!

You deserve a break today! An old commercial said. I've said it before that you needed a break and now that you are, enjoy it and then comeback and pace yourself! Don't try to do as much if there is no rest with the time, energy, and money you put into a project. You gotta make time for you, so run along you little rugrat and relax, have some fun!

We ate a range of places, from Curry In A Hurry to L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon.
My friend loved this at L'Atelier: amachi - Japanese yellowtail with avocado, jalapeņos (soy sauce, orange reduction, mint, honey in the sauce) - I loved the Sugar bubble with ice cream, currant and blueberry, with lavender and gold drops.
At the Viand Coffee Shop of 61st Street we had delicious eggs, crusty bread and lovely, rich coffee.
We listened to jazz at the bar at the Carlise Hotel. Bemelmans Bar, a timeless New York watering hole that has drawn socialites, politicians, movie stars and moguls for more than five decades, is decorated with an amazing whimsical mural by Ludwig Bemelmans, best remembered as the creator of the classic Madeline books for children. My friend says the martinis are the best, I loved the nuts, crispy snacks and coke with lime!
We had an amazing dinner at the Crown Restaurant - gorgeous dining room, so NY, but noisy when packed with diners.
The photo below is from Il Buco - the squid was beautiful and I loved looking at it, but didn't try it. About Il Buco, it's a "transformed rustic antique store transformed into a charming enoteca with an eclectic menu - part Italian, part Spanish, part invention, dedicated to local ingredients with a wine list made up of small boutique producers."
