I've been on dialysis since September, 2008. At first I was on hemo but the graft (couldn't do a fistula on me) keep clogging up so after the third surgery I elected to go on PD. Then in August of 2010 I got a moldy GI infection, which was never diagnosed beyond being a mold. It filtered into the peritoneum and probably infected the catheter, although that was never diagnosed either. Nevertheless, the doctors removed the catheter and inserted what they called a "temporary" graft. That was on November 2 and it is still painful. The cause of kidney disease is high blood pressure, which four medications do not affect. I've been on bp meds since diagnosis in 2007, with absolutely no results.

I've never heard of a "temporary" graft...do they eventually put in a permanent one? I apologize; I don't know much about grafts.
That's amazing that none of your meds work at least a little bit. Do your docs have any other suggestions?
Welcome to IHD. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you!

Welcome to IHD Ellen!!!
It's good to have you with us. You've had a few problems so far - I hope that they clear up soon and your "temporary" graft can continue to serve you.

i like you was diagnosed with high blood pressure and that has been given as the reason that my kidneys have failed and even with dialysis and taking two meds my blood pressures are still high..if they don't lower in the next month or so i am gonna try to get put on another medicine...i don't want high blood pressure to keep me from getting a transplant :Kit n Stik; :stressed;

Thank you all for the welcomes! I am chronically angry at the treatment I receive incenter. I requested (and my doctor backed me up) one of several techs who seem to me to be better than the others (they cause no pain inserting the needles) but the clinic manager refused adamantly and in fact gave me a tech that is extremely rough. I can choose my own doctor in this country, my own representative, my own senator, my own husband, but not my own tech apparently. This summer I am going on home hemodialysis when a caretaker is free to take the training with me. Protests, anyone?

Good for you!!! You will have so much more control because no, you can't choose your own tech. On top of that, you'll probably feel much better, too.
