Hi
My name is Nicole and I am from Australia.
I have been on dialysis since 1983 when I was 13. I have had two transplants and am waiting for a third - I believe in third time lucky!
I work fulltime as a social worker and I am half way through a Degree in Psychology.
I dialyse at home and have done so since I first began dialysis.
Umm what else? The cause of my renal failure was Glomerulonephritis and I had no time to think about any of this - I fell sick one day and was on dialysis that afternoon.
Looking to forward to being able to contribute and impart a little bit of wisdom!!
Nicole

Hi Nicole! I hope you are not in any flooded bits of Australia!
Anyone who has been on dialysis since 1983 certainly has a lot of wisdom to impart. Thanks so much for the offer; that's very generous of you. Welcome!

G'day Nicole and welcome!!!! Wow you were 13 in 1983 - me too!! And aussie too. I wonder if you were that cute girl I had a crush on.... :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
You've certainly had an oddessy since avoiding that scary kid who kept staring at you across the street back in '83 !!! Kidney failure, dialysis, 2 transplants. You would have some stories to tell, and a lot of experience to share. I think it is fantastic you are getting into Social Work and psych - I am sure you could help a lot of people just with your own "university of life" you've had since your teenage years!
Look forward to hearing more from you!

Welcome to the group, Nicole. I'm confused. I thought glomerulonephritis was a symptom of kidney problems, not a cause. I had the big G back when I was about 35. The cause of my kidney failure, however, was high blood pressure. Just wondering. Glad you're here.

The best way to be incidently. I find humour is INVALUABLE as a way to cope with some of the situations this horrid disease gives us. There were times I was on that bloody machine and thinking if I can't laugh at this I'll cry.. I chose to laugh.
