Title: Sunny had her transplant!
Post by: okarol on October 07, 2010, 10:34:06 AM
I just got a call from Sunny's hubby Carl. He said Sunny had her surgery yesterday and she is doing great. The doctor said the kidney started making urine immediately the minute it was hooked up to the artery!

Her sister is groggy but fine and if all goes well she will be released from the hospital in a couple of days.
 :bandance; :yahoo; :clap;

(If you're not familiar with Sunny's story you can read some here http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=20357.0 )

Thank you Karol.  I have been so worried.  There has been a couple of bumps along the way, and I was worried that something else would postpone surgery.   We have shared a similar story and I can't believe we ended up with transplants so close together.  I am thrilled she is doing ok and can't wait to hear more from her.

Love you Sunny!!

Thinking about you everyday, Sunny.   I am hoping things are going smoothly.  It takes a lot of energy to recover from this surgery.  And a lot of emotions to deal with.  Take your time, enjoy your naps, try to get some protein in every day.   Sorry --- I sound like a mother hen!!!  Know that I am concerned and wishing you well.     :cuddle;    :cuddle;

I just got off the phone with Sunny's hubby Carl. He said she was out of the hospital in a couple of days but started having very serious nausea and could not keep food down. The bigger problem was throwing up the immunosuppressants that she needs for her new kidney. So on Sunday they readmitted her to the hospital and she is still there, on IV fluids and not eating much. They took away the Cellcept, thinking this might me the problem. They are going to try another immuno, perhaps Myfortic, tonight, and see how she tolerates it. The good news is her creatinine is a fabulous .9 and the kidney is doing fine! Hopefully they can get her feeling better and back home again soon. Carl has the laptop at the hospital so hopefully he can read Sunny and messages left here.

 :waving; Hi Sunny!!  We love you - sending lots of hugs and best wishes your way!!  :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;

Did I read that right? She was realeased after 2 days? That's really quick and stupid to me if that is the case especially since she is back in.

I hope she starts feeling better wit the switch.

Thank you so much for all your well wishes. It  means a lot to me.
     They have gotten my immunos under control and I don't have the terrible vomiting or diaheria anymore.It was pretty difficult for a while there, but throughout it all, my kidney performed like a trooper with creatinine still about .9 ( from 3.6 whoop whoop!). They changed my Cellcept to Myfortic because Myfortic is coated and breaks down in the intestines instead of the stomache, which seemed to help. They are also cutting back on Prograff because my goal is 10 but my latest levels were 18. I'm titrating down the Prednisone too. I guess my little body just doesn't need as much, but they don't know that until they try standard procedures.I should be released from the hosptial by Friday.
     I saw my sister donor today after she came for clinic. She sure looks good and seems to be handling everything very well. For all those potential living donors out there, she admitted she feels no different whatsoever with one kidney. Her body can't tell the difference, which was one concern she had. Living donors rock, and have no need to fear.

Excellent news!!!!

I am so happy your function is so good.  I am hanging around 1.4 now.

Whoa that Prograf level is awful high.  No wonder you were having troubles.  My T-team told me I was toxic at 13 and cut me back.

Just got back from Stanford clinic for follow up appointment (I've been three times since released from the hospital).
Everything is looking really good. Creatinine 1.2; prograf level  7 (too low,will increase dosage); Hemo level 11.0; still on myfortic 360 ml and prednisone 12.5 mil. No nausea and no need for blood pressure medicine! I feel pretty darn good. The #1 most important difference that I noticed immediately after my transplant, Oct 6th, was "clarity of thought" as I've come to call it. I can think crystal clearly again. It's the most amazing feeling and one I never expected. I need to drink more water to help the creatinine go back down again. I'd like to hand it to IHD since because of you, I am far more educated in all this than your average bear.

Superb news, Sunny! :yahoo;

I was one of those unlucky sorts that felt no better, and actually a whole lot worse, after transplant. It has only been the last month or two that I can truly say that I am glad that I went through with it.

You sound like you are doing and feeling great! Long may it continue! :flower;

Good to see you, Sunny.   :2thumbsup;    That first week or two is all about experimenting with the meds.  Just when I think they have things right, they change something or add something!  LOL    I am thrilled you feel clear headed.  That was one of the major things I noticed. Or maybe I finally cared enough to think and listen to people!     Keep drinking!  Some days it is hard to get that much fluid in. I guess that is our job right now.   You are constantly in my thoughts.  I am so glad this has happened.   Take care!   :cuddle;

Still doing really well.
My body is quickly improving too. My calcium levels are normal,I'm no longer anemic,cholesterol is lowering,glucose levels are lowering,parathyroid improving,and so many more improvements going on with my body that kidneys play so much a part of. The implications are far reaching. My sister is doing extremely well and recovering quickly.She still has incision pain, but is getting out and doing normal things. My prograff is 4 mill twice a day with a goal of 8, Myfortic is 360 mill twice a day,prednisone 5 mill per day. I am a little moody from the prednisone, but that's getting better since my dose has lowered. I have the Prograff tremors, but am told that will get better as they figure out my correct dosage. My doctor keeps reminding me to look at the longterm goal about 3 to 6 months out for feeling normal again.
