Good Morning All
Received a call from Sluff that his trainer is picking him up in Hammond IN this morning (Friday, August 7) and they are off to St Paul and who knows where from there.
I am waiting to hear about a living space in Tomah Wisconsin which is where MY NEW JOB will be. Tomah is about 2 hours west of our home in Appleton WI, which for all you football fans is about 30 minutes south of Green Bay (Go Pack!). I start my job August 31 and have 4 weeks of training which includes 2 week in Grove City PA.
I will have charge of Scooter (our much beloved dog) until Sluff gets his own truck and them Scooter may be a "ramblin man" just like Sluff. Sluff really misses Scooter and visa versa. I continue to reassure both of them that all is well.
Patton (Josh) has announced that he will be getting married on October 9 (a Friday afternoon at 3:30PM) here in Appleton during his 2 week leave between Basic Training and where ever the Army is giving him orders to report. Sluff and I are not sure that we will be able to attend the wedding, both having new jobs and all.
I have requested time off to go to Josh's graduation from Basic Training at Fort Benning GA on Oct. 2. We do not know if Sluff will be able to attend. A HUGE disappointment for both of them is Sluff cannot make the event. Sluff is a "captive" of the training system right now so has no say about where he will be on Oct 2 or for that matter Oct 9.
That's all for now, Best to All of you

Good wishes to all of you - please tell Sluffbunny we are all here waiting for him, he'll have a lot to catch up with. Thanks for keeping us updated and good luck with your new job :thumbup;

:waving; Christy, WOW that is a lot of changes for your family to go through in a short time. Tell Sluff that we really miss him and thank you for the update and we look forward to many more. Congratulations to you on your new job and Josh for his upcoming wedding. :cuddle;

All the best to your family Christy.

JOSH GETTING MARRIED???
But we haven't even met her! Congrats to him. Christy, good luck with your new job. Hopefully one or both of you can make it to Josh's two events. If not, let me volunteer us, IHD, to be surrogate parents at one or both events as is appropriate... anyone near Ft Benning GA?
But I will leave it to you and/or Sluff to let us know, if it is even allowed. It wouldn't be the same for Josh (or Sluff, or you), but we're family.
:grouphug; That's for you all.

Alene and all
Thanks for all the up lifting messages - re: Ft Benning - one must present all kinds of official paperwork just to get onto the base. We are grateful for your offer and the support from the "family".

Congrats to Patton on getting married. Plus he made it through basic training so far! Good for you on the new job! Sluff must be doing well to be on the road now.

Good Evening All
Just got a message from Sluff that he is just south of South Bend IN on his way to Macon GA - then Blakely GA and then up to Franklin Park Illinois. Still getting used to trying to sleep with the truck moving. Says Hi to all.

Wow I missed this thread while I was in NY! Josh is engaged?? Tell him I said he's too young (he never listens to me anyway!)
I am happy to hear Sluff is doing ok - we miss him a lot but will celebrate when his training is over!

Mised this thread to, first time seeing it.
Well that's a shocker that Patton/Josh is getting married. She seemed nice with the brief time I met her in May ;D
I'll try to wave to Sluff as he passes through Franklin Park :waving;
Good Luck to you and Sluff, it's a bigger undertaking for you both. Hope Sluff can make it to Graduation along with you.

Hello All
Just taking a minute to update you all on the "Adventures of Sluff - Team Driver Extrordinaire(sp?)". Anyway, he has been doing quite a bit of traveling in the southern tier of the US. Lets see, Meridian GA, Oklahoma City, Avondale AZ, Back to GA and he is now ending a run from that stop in GA, via South Dakota and Montana (that was yesterday) to beautiful Seattle WA. He and his teammate, Darrel aka DJ, have a delivery tomorrow morning - Saturday Aug 22 and being the dynamic duo that they are have arrived TODAY Friday August 21. Sluff sent me a text at 7:30 AM CT - that is 5:30 AM PT - announcing that they were 100 miles from Seattle.
Sluff obviously knew that I would be hovering by the cell phone waiting to hear of their progress over
the mountains into Washington State. He did not mention anything about having to chain-up before crossing the mountains so I assume that the snow is not yet a problem in the passes.
Neither Sluff not I have heard anything lately from Josh/Patton. Assume that he is still alive and well. Next Friday August 28th is what is called Family Day at Basic and as is obvious families are invited to Ft Benning GA to spend the day - or at least part of that day - with the recruit. Well, here I am in Tomah/Wilton WI trying to train the dog not to bark every time I leave the Apartment I have had to rent to establish a residence for my new Job and Sluff is in Seattle WA and who knows where he will be next - so I don't think that either of us will get to family day. Would be nice to be there but I start my job on August 31 and Sluff "be a ramblin' man".
So, there is the latest. Wishing all of you well until next time.

Darrel and Darrel? Ha!
I wish I was closer to GA - I would go see Josh. I am sure he'll be fine but you both will be missed.
Good luck with the new job!

:cuddle; Thank you for the update. We all sure miss Sluff. :clap;

This is my brother Darrel and my other brother, Darrel :rofl; (Bob Newhart Show) Thanks, Christy for letting us know how Sluff is. Your life has changed a lot in the past couple of months. I hope your new job is a good fit for you. And I hope Sluff is enjoying being on the road. We all worry about him, so it is good to hear updates. Take care of yourself :cuddle;
-
Christy, please know how much we appreciate you keeping us updated concerning our beloved Sluff. Still looking forward to him completing training and getting back to IHD. You are doing a great job of keeping us feeling connected. :grouphug;
Hope everything goes well with your move and your new job. :cuddle;

Hello All
Another Short update on the "Travels of Sluff".
He loaded in Seattle WA and then had other loads before trading trailers with another driver in I believe Bellingham WA. He sent me a text that said that he would be coming through Tomah WI on his way to Harrisburg PA. He was very excited that he might get to see me and Scooter - yes he did put me first in his text message but his heart aches to see Scooter, and I know that.
Well, I just got a message from him that they are east of Billings Montana and DJ is driving - there is still 1900 miles to go before they reach Harrisburg PA. They have to arrive MONDAY morning Aug 24. So, I don't know if I will actually be able to see him at the Truck stop in Tomah of just stand on the overpass and wave as they drive east towards Pennsylvania. He will know more tomorrow (Sunday) morning about the possibility of a short and I do mean Short stop in Tomah or if they will just have to keep driving. Every hour counts with this load and the load comes first.
I will let you all know if I get to see Sluff or just the truck.
-
Hopefully you can see Sluff, and take a :pics; if you can.

Hello from Appleton
I am home and I DID get to see Sluff. We met at the Kwik Trip truck stop at Interstate 94 exit 143 in Tomah. And as I said previously, I knew it would be a short visit. It was exactly 5 minutes! He is allowed a 7 monute stop without the Computer notifying his dispatcher (nka Drvier managers) that the truck has stopped moving. I got to hug him,kiss him 2x, :) had him sign some paperwork for our COBRA insurance and he got to see and pet Scooter, who by the way, did remember him.
Sorry I did not even think to take a picture. He looked thinner and a little road weary from putting on 300 miles before we met and proudly told me he had on his "cleanest dirty shirt".
I did not get to meet his team mate who was sleeping but I had promised to buy lunch or dinner so I gave him some $$ and waved goodbye with a tear in my eye. I really miss him. :'(

LIfe in the road is tough to say the least.... usually you only get one day off a week which they try to get you home for the 4 days off.... and with the qualcomm ( computer on the truck ) it does have a direct link to the home office..... and when they say that cant stop more than 7 minutes it sure makes it rough when your trying to fuel and the lines are backed up...... let alone trying to get a shower... driving team is rough and busy..... These guys ( and girls) are some of the hardest working people out there... driving 11 hours a day on their logs books..... and trying to live life moving in a truck 24/7.... Really seems like the only true rest you get is when you are waiting to unload or load..... by the time you get home for home time you are just right down tired..... Takes a bit to get use to..... probably like dialysis.....
I dont know sluff but is he on PD or did he have a transplant.... was just wondering.... I am pretty new here and I am still learning about everyone..... kathy

We need a truck smiley LOL :bandance;
I think the same website that does these has a truck one (think I saved it from my old pc). It is of a trucker hitting something though or one of the smiley faces. I will have to look for back up disk.
Sorry it was such a short visit Christy, hopefu;y it will be over shortly in a few months and you can see Sluff more.
-
Thank you Christy - so glad you had a short but sweet visit! :cuddle;

Sluff is pre-dialysis.

Christy, I am so glad you had 5 minutes. I am sure it did Sluff so much good to see you and Scooter. I hope he is doing ok. We all worry about him and miss him terribly. :cuddle;
