Use that to see how many Dialysis center are within 25 miles of your Zip code. I was shocked to learn this:
There are 125 dialysis facilities available within 25 miles of ZIP Code ***** :o
I am in So.Cal. That's an amazing number, so how many within your zip code?
-
It shows 21 within 25 miles of my zip code.
That is a shock to me. I thought there were only 2-3.
-
That site would really be helpful in planning vacations.
-
31 around me, more than I thought.
-
21 in my zip. Mostly DaVita.
-
15 in my zip. I had contacted every one to get into a night unit! Finally one 13 miles away started a night shift and took me on!
-
Interesting. It shows 77 dialysis facilities available within 25 miles of my ZIP Code. :2thumbsup;
-
OK - now I KNOW I'm in the sticks ... I have an amazing 5 centers within 25 miles of me! Hold me back - Oh the choices...
-
The magic number is 125.
-
I am in so CA too. My results were 21 centers within 25 miles of my zipcode. How did I end up at RAI?
-
23 for me but that list isn't up to date because I know of another local center that opened sometime in 2005.
-
Only 1. ;D
-
There are 34 units within 25 miles of my zip. 22 of them are Davita, 9 are FMC and the other 3 are attached to hospitals.
-
14. And as far as I can tell (I did a lot of calling) none of them have shifts starting later than 1 or 2pm. Sucks for the working person.
-
What the does it mean on the charts when is says "Patient survival is as expected". An interesting statistic.

It basically it's just a fancy way of saying that the mortality rate at that clinic is within the acceptable limits for a dialysis facility. Also, there aren't lots of unexpected or unusual deaths.
-
There are 48 dialysis facilities available within 10 miles of Sandman's house! WOW!
Can't look up Canadian ones but I recently found out that there is a Davita unit in Toronto Canada lol .. like I would ever go to them after what I have heard! I will stick with mine (Fresenius) ::)
-
There are 48 dialysis facilities available within 10 miles of Sandman's house! WOW!
I told you! There are at least three that are close enough to walk to. Literally only 4 city blocks away and those are all (Fresenius) units. ;)

yeah, as the annual reports (from medicare) explain, they observe the death rate among patients treated at each facility, and compare that to the expected death rate for that facility based on its patient population factors like age, sex, race, comorbid conditions, etc; and also compare it to state and national averages.

That can't be right? What were the circumstances?

You saw it here (http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=1405.msg17463#msg17463).

Awww, see that's because waitlisted was a legal resident. Basicly a long term visitor.

That is all I would be as well if I moved to the US but didn't want to lose my Canadian citizenship! Oh nevermind. It is discussed here (http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=1405.msg17484#msg17484).
Oh sorry for this being off topic! Anyway the site Medicae Dialysis Finder/Compare (http://www.medicare.gov/Dialysis/Include/DataSection/Questions/SearchCriteria.asp?version=default&browser=IE%7C6%7CWin2000&language=English&pagelist=Home&dest=NAV|Home|Search|SearchCriteria&Type=ZipCode#astep1a) is good! Tells where units are close to you! :2thumbsup;

Within 10 miles of my home:
There are 59 dialysis facilities available within 10 miles of ZIP Code 07070
-
I have 8 within 25 miles, 1 within 10 miles, 0 in my zip code (we live in the country)
Out of the 8 there are only 2 which offer home hemo; one center has TWO patients on home hemo (I heard one of those two patients is a retired doctor) -- I don't know about the other center. None are using NxStage and only one of the centers had ever heard of NxStage when I asked last fall.
My husbands neph said that DaVita now has plans to open a new facility in about a year, about 20 miles from us, that will be for home hemo patients only -- probably using NxStage only!!! :clap; :2thumbsup; :clap; I hope he knows what he is talking about. I doubt Mike's kidneys will last that long but perhaps we will be able to switch centers as soon as they open.
-
Hooray! There are 3 dialysis centers within 25 miles-- but I already knew that... ::) I don't live in the sticks-- I live in Monterey County, California and the cost of doing medical business in the county is exorbitantly expensive.
Unfortunately, only one of the three clinics accepts my private insurance. I have tried to work out the insurance issues with the other two-- and well, I ended up going without dialysis for 9 days while the two centers frickfracked things up (I felt better, though, those 9 days off than I had in years...I even went jogging during that time!)
Luckily, there's a clinic that does NxStage an hour away...I tried that for three months before my transplant...and now that I'm back on dialysis again, it's going to be NxStage again, for me, soon.

I'm in North Central Iowa, and I have exactly 2 centers within 25 miles. This is exactly what I would have expected for this area.
-
Im in the middle of nowhere Kansas. There is 1 unit within 25 miles of my zip, that unit is in Hutchinson. It's not even the unit I go too. My unit is about 36 miles of my zip in Great Bend.
I wont change either. I like my unit. It is small and personal.
-
We are the only unit within a 200 mile radius. Nine chairs and 3 shifts. You can't afford to be late or miss a session cause you have to wait till your next treatment. Right now there is one chair open on 3rd shift and when it is full, anyone one else will have a 2 1/2 hour drive to the next clinic. I have to drive 1 1/2 hours to get to my treatments. You're lucky in So. Cal that you possibly have a choice.
-
There are 35 dialysis facilities available within 10 miles of Our Zipcode
Wow - I only know of 2!
-
42 within 25 miles of home for me
Just out of curiosity, I entered a zip that I know to be somewhere near the center of Atlanta...there were 82!
-
There isn't even 1 here in the UK within 25 miles of us :(
-
There isn't even 1 here in the UK within 25 miles of us :(
Whoa! And I though I lived in the sticks! We at least have one, twenty miles away, but it's an hour and a half drive because of the two ferry rides.
-
I have 9 within 25 miles but two are hospitals and only do emergency or in hospital patient care. All but 2 of the rest are not accepting new patients - have a long waiting list. Only 2 are less than 18 miles. The gov't measures "as the crow flies" Add 10 miles to go by road. The other problem is that I live near the border and county line so transportation is not available. All the local agencies don't go out of state or out of county. Of the two with openings, we went to one and I think my husband would be dead if he had remained there. Thank goodness for NxStage.
The list looks great until you need to use them.
-
We live in the sticks. We have ONE center within 25 miles of us.....so I guess its better then having zero. The options are limited but life in the country, its good, very very good.
-
I have 28 with in 25 miles. Seems like a lot but also seems scary that we need that many...Boxman
-
Only one but Fresenius has started construction on a new facility here. I'm afraid that my center will eventually be bought out by one of the Big 3 (Davita, Fresenius, DCI).
-
The real question is: how many centers within 25 miles accept my insurance?
Number of centers: 7
Number of centers accepting my insurance: 3
Does the center 1 mile from my house accept any private insurance? No, of course not. Cash or medicare only. Gotta love DaVita.
Nearest center that accepts my insurance: 20 miles/30 minutes away.
-
My center is a non-profit hospital based unit. They accept all forms of payment. Many have Medicare only and that is accepted as payment in full. I've heard that some of the chain centers won't take Multicare patients without supplemental insurance. Is this true?
-
Wow... there are only 6 dialysis facilities available within 25 miles of my zip code
-
There are 38 dialysis centers within 25 miles of my Zip code. The nearest one is 5.6 miles away, and that's the one I go to.
However, I'm in the Boston area, with its back country roads. 25 miles might as well be 2500 miles; it can take you 45 minutes to go 25 miles. (And if an accident backs up traffic, much longer even than that.)
-
Just saw this up on the most recent topics.
I see I have 29 centers within 25 miles, but looking at the list, that mileage is off on most of them. They must have used a straight edge ruler on a map to figure distance.
Not sure what the abbreviations mean in front of some of the centers name such as FMC and RCG, but have only one Davita

chris, fmc is fresenius medical clinic and rcg is renal care group

I been to Bellingham, Washington. Ended up doing dialysis down further south.
-
None! The closest one is 28.4 miles away as the DaVita crow flies. According to my car's odometer they are only 14 miles away. ???
-
69 within 25 miles, 24 within 10. I was only aware of about half of them.

RCG is now FMC...and y would u want to stay away fro FMC? :'( I prefer FMC over Davita anytime. I wish there was FMC in Omaha.
-
I live in Albuquerque, NM We have 8. I'm surprised. I didn't know that there were so many. Reading about some of the centers in here really makes me appreciate how good I got it at the center where I go. It's close to my house, The caretakers are attentive and nice. I just thank GOD That I have such good care.
-
23 here
-
There are only 9 here and I thought I lived in a pretty big city..guess not
-
Not sure, but did want to tell you that there is a new center being built in Spencerport, NY on Rt 259. Should be done in about 9 months. I heard this at my mom's center which is at Unity Health. She'll be going there since it's closer to home.

In addition to the aforementioned Medicare search tool you can also find a dialysis center near you by using DialysisFinder.com http://www.dialysisfinder.com/ - it will show you Location/Modalities/Distance from the address or zip you provide.
