Title: Hello My Name is Karla and I am a dialysis Patient
Post by: 15yearstolong on September 10, 2006, 04:17:15 PM
Hi all,

Like you all I have my own story to tell so here goes.

Last night I was talking to my partner about how dialysis sucks and I wish there was somewhere I could go to vent which led me to here (My partner takes it personally when I complain as he is unable to donate me a kidney as he is an A- and I am an O+ slight problem. He seem s to think I blame him for not being a match)

Anyway sorry about the rant. Back to me and my beginning...... :clap; Yay you shout

I have been a dialysis patient since I was 5 I am now 24 (almost 25).
They new when I was born I was going to have stuffed kidneys due to congenital nuphrotic syndrome.

I was on CAPD from 1986 till 1989 then I got a transplant which lasted for 3 years. Then I was back on CAPD From 1991 till 1998 (During which time I became a teenager who decided she didn't want to be a dialysis patient and bags interfered with my life, so I stopped doing the lunch time one)So from there I started doing in centre Heamo which suited me better and meant I got at least a 24 hour break from being a dialysis person. I now am doing Home care Heamo in Christchurch. My partner is well trained in setting up my machine and helping if my BP drops to low and it has only taken me 5 years to train him....not bad really.

Anyway thats me in a nutshell :)

Karla, welcome to the site.  I read one of your other posts and was confused about your term "partner" but this clears things up (Thank GOD).  Okay - Wheeww   Sorry, in California it means something else.  (hmmm I don't see an appropriate smiley)

I hope you like this site.  There is a lot to read.  I'm glad you got a 3 year break and I hope you get another one soon if that is what you want.  Tell your "partner" to join.  What a guy......  :beer1;

Sorry this may not be the appropriate question for this string but what does Partner mean to you?
I told him to join but is more intrested in reading the latest Linux upgrade than talking more about renal failure

Here "Partner" usually means Gay.

My friend, we'll call her Sally, just moved here.  When she was moving down she needed a hotel, so she called one and asked if the beds were firm because her partner had a bad back.  The manager asked if her partner "was a larger woman..."  Her partner's name is FRED.

Not that there's anything wrong with that~

I'm fairly new too, so welcome may not be right coming from me, but definitely HELLO!  I'm 28 and have also had kidney problems since I was very young, so I understand fully being a teenager and wanting to be someone other than "the girl with the kidney problems"  Hope to see many posts from us both  :clap;

FOX  - This is "Introduction" so right now you are OFF Topic.  Please click on her name and you can then send her a PM (Personal Message).  Or go to "Off Topic" and start a new topic called something like "Don't Look My Age".

I'm sorry.

No reason to be sorry Fox, Rerun is just trying to keep order. You didn't have to delete your thread. We just try to keep this section limited to a members "Introduction" and the other members welcoming them.  :) You are welcome to create a new thread in the proper section, or you are welcome to send a PM to a member.  :)
