The first time my husband and I did a turkey in a cooking bag, we waited and waited for the pop up timer. I kept cursing because it said the turkey had a pop up timer, but we couldn't find it. Finally we took it out of the bag and figured out we had put the turkey in upside down. We have also cooked ham without taking all the plastic packing off.

I made a fruitcake a couple of years ago.  I reached for a bottle of what I thought was cloves. As soon as I had it in the mixture I realized it wasn't cloves it was chili powder!! Not a good spice to put in a fruitcake!!  Luckily I didn't have any flour added .  I scooped out most of it.  Luckily I realized it before I stirred!!!  I didn't even tell hubby until the cake was all eaten!!  :rofl;

I think chili powder could improve the taste of fruitcake

I made a 1/2 pot of coffee yesterday -- without the pot!  Unfortunately, I managed to go off to get the vacuum while it was brewing.  What a mess it was when I got back.

lol.....my honey talks about his favorite foods from home...Mexico....wanted us to try to make "Menudo" I think it is spelled...well I like soups and make some good ones so he told me what was in it and when he got to these particular ingredients I said NO WAY...you find some nice Mexican families around here that make it and beg it off of them and no I don't want any..no thanks...so when he went home this spring he ate his fill for awhile again..I guess it is a major specialty and is made in HUGE canner type pots and everyone comes to eat......blech....

The worst part about making it is the smell.  It stinks so bad.  If you really want to do something spacial for him and are willing to try it.  The key is to cook it in a crock pot in the garage. haha. Yes that way you don't need to smell it and you really don't need to keep an eye on it.  I have made tons of it, won't let it get anywhere near my mouth. But to each there own.

The other night I made meatloaf.  And did I check to make sure I had everything I needed first? NO! So I have everything in my bowl ready to mix, and I go to get the breadcrumbs, no bread crumbs. Then I go to get crackers, no crackers (well gramcrackers but that wouldn't work).  Okay so I am thinking, I decided bread would work, oh wait no bread!  And I see my bran sitting on the shelf, I had gotten some to make some muffins for the weekend.  Well I tell myself just a little bit of bran and it will all be fine and dandy.  NOPE!  Not only did the meatloaf taste like bran, it had a weird texture.  It was really bad, I haven't made a meal that bad ever.  I was so disappointed in myself.  Haha.  It sucked.

I was trying a new recipe the other day - mixing everything in the crockpot before going to work.  I was making a Lamb shoulder roast - Italian style.  But - remember this is the MORNING before work, and I dialyzed late into the night - so I'm still shaking out some cobwebs.

Well, I sprinkled in some herbs, according to the recipe.  Then, sprinkled in a little Crushed Red Pepper for a little kick, just a little since I don't like spicy.  Well, I decided to sprinkle in a little more basil.  Twisted off the lid & shook to sprinkle.  Well, I grabbed the Crushed Red Pepper instead, and it has a flip top.  Twisting off it's lid and shaking it over my roast resulted in 3/4 of a bottle of pepper now in my sauce!!  YOWSA!  I tried scooping out as much as I could, but a little of that stuff goes a long way.  Needless to say - the roast was HOT! HOT! HOT!!  SPICYYYYYYY!     Hubby loved it! LOL!

oh yes,
lucky for me I do not like Blue Bell homemade vanilla or the vanilla bean -

he loved it   it was rather purple

I like to just eat the blackberries out of it and leave the crust --

I doubled the recipe for three cups of blackberries to six cups - which gives me more to eat without the crust

note to self ---- remember to defrost berries

it was a pretty pie  until it erupted and all this blueberry juice came out

should send the recipe to Kitkatz some she can use it for science

As a newly wed, I made a roast for my new hubby , and did not know how to darken the gravy, so I used food coloring. The gravy came out green!!!! He asked what it was, and I nonchalantly said, it's gravy. So he ate it. The man was not completely stupid.

I'm making up a couple of meals at once tonight, like I usually do.  I cooked up a batch of burger - put some in spaghetti sauce for pasta, and the other half went into what was supposed to be one of those Bisquick casseroles - mix bisquick with eggs and milk, stir in veggies, meat, and spices and pop it all in the oven to turn into a chewy meat pie.  I just tried to take it out of the oven after 25 minutes, and it was still liquid.
I forgot the bisquick.
 :rofl;

I stirred it in - I think it will still turn out okay - just my ingredients were a lot warmer than normal!

Haha that is great.  The one thing I used to mess up at first all the time was cakes.  I love to cook, and have always been pretty good. I have been cooking with my grandmother from age 5. So I can cook, no one better to learn how to cook then from your grandmother. But baking was never my strong suite. haha.  Every once in a while my new creative ideas don't always play out in my favor. Haha.  I tired to remake this Asian coslaw I had once. Wow it was so bad!  My dog wouldn't even eat it. haha.
