First of all, I had a phone call from my sister Arlene who lives in Florida. I know that she had had a biopsy to check out lumps in her breast. Now it is confirmed - she has breast cancer and has to start chemotherapy next week. This is not easy - I lost my dearest sister when I was 22 years old, a sister who was like a mother to me (we are 20 years apart). Arlene is a young 70 yr old. those of you who pray, please remember her. Then I went to dialysis today. Not too much fluid - just 1.5. However about a hour before i was to come off, I started to feel cold (not normal for me). I had to ask for a sheet. I was shivering. My temperature was 99.7. I continued dialysis, feeling more and more chilly and my throat was feeling a bit uncomfortable. when they were taking me off, my temp was 100.7, so they sent me to emergency. the doctor gave me paracetamol and told me to get aspirin gargle. I am home now and not feeling as badly as I felt earlier. I had told one of the nurses that I wasn't going to go to emergency, I would just head for home and wrap up. She told me that I had to remember that my immune system has been compromised by the renal failure and I should not play with it. So I didn't.

I am very sorry to hear about your sister. That news must be hard to take. You should know that breast cancer treatment is very successful nowadays so hopefully things will go well for her. I wish her well. And I'm hoping you will feel better soon too. Those of us with renal failure know we have to be extra vigilant about taking care of ourselves because of our lowered immune system. Good luck.

What's a Zpack? Zithromax, an antibiotic - The 250 mg tablets are often dispensed in packages of six and commonly referred to as a "Z-Pak." I hope you are feeling better.
