6 of 6 match antigens but............

my gf and i have matched perfectly.
and as far as i know she is not my sister.  joke.
We have known that she is a perfect match for over a year but UCSF refuses because she is half my size. 
And supposedly it would work to hard and wouldn't last long because of that fact.

I'm 5ft 11inches about 185lbs
She is 5ft 95 lbs

We have tried 5 cross-matching testing in the last 1 1/2 years and have not been successful.
I'm currently waiting results for this current cross-match. should take about 1-2 months more.

Each attempt at cross-matching takes about 2-4 months because of the test's.

At what point should i push for the transplant with her?
And yes i know i would be trading in one list of possible side effects for another.
But for now i think it would be best if i had a transplant so her and i , as a couple, could have more freedom.
I dont want to confine her to this recliner like i have been.
If i was single i would probably stick with my short daily if i could.

Anyways, what do you guys think of her kidney being to small? is ucsf being overly precautious?
Where could i find info for kidney size in transplants?

All I was told is that an ADULT kidney could go into a TODDLER, but not vice versa.  However, I did read an article on NBA Star Alonzo Mourning and it said he needed a "bigger than average kidney due to his height".  Fortunately for him his cousin was a good match, size and all.

The question here would be : Are you risking her health?
At 95 pounds, is she a good candidate donor for anyone? I would look further into this aspect. If that checks out to be fine, and your donor
is completely willing, and you are agreeable to the risks for yourself, then why not? Don't kidneys enlarge a little to try and accommodate the needs
of the body? I was told this is what happens to the the donor's remaining kidney along with the recipient's new kidney.
Ultimately, the hospital will only do what they think is right.

Sunny, to tell the truth Id prefer not to have her kidney. Thats how much i love her but she wont have any of it.
She wants to give me her kidney as much as i dont want to accept it. Ive tried saying no many many times.
We had countless arguments in the end i said yes only because I do think she has the health for it and the Dr.'s also says she does. She is just
small not unhealthy.

On another note I dont agree that a hospital will always do whats right.
I belonged to Kaiser and I'm sure youve read the articles of how many patients were dying that could have been saved from Kaiser insurance.
It was only 2 years ago that Kaiser closed it transplant program and sent its list to UCSF or UCDavis.

Im not a big fan of UCSF either. For one they dont accept altruistic transplants. Thats just the general view.
I wont go into my personal experiences with them which i have many.

My kidneys (I got two) were from a 13 month old. They have both grown to almost adult size in two years. I was told because I am short 5 ft 2 1/2 that the kidneys would grow. I was also told that the kidneys wopuld not grow to accommadate a average to tall man.

Your right. It is true hospitals don't always do what is right. Kaiser is a prime example.

Why type of cross match is this?

Cross matching  should only take hours, not months.

You said 5 attempts?  You say its a  6 of 6 match.  Are you turning up positive cross matches that they need to keep doing  the cross match test?

sorry i should have been more specific. the only perfect match i had was with my gf but
I have had 5 cross match attempts with 5 different couples.
On 4 i had to much reaction to the other couples donor.
On one the recipient off the other couple had to much reaction with my gf.
The cross match itself test takes, what, 2 days? at the most but..........
1 week they send out tubes for me to draw blood....and that has to be done on a mon or tues otherwise i wait another full week.
then the following week the others couple donor gets there tube........so it can be compared to my results.
then the other donor gets tubes..........then the following week my gf.......and so on......
if there is slight reactions then they run additional labs.
Plus, there is all the physical fitness test to be done by all ........ekg, tb, they check your lungs......they look at the kidneys....
every single time.

At UCSF from what ive seen it takes long because there are so many people in this area waiting for a transplant here.
to make it worse i dont believe they have an adequate staff to handle all of us in a speedy fashion.
Im sure its like that with every department though. So in that regard im patient with the coordinators
as long as they communicate.
