I just got back from the hospital visiting my brother (2nd donor tested).  By the time I got there he was finally done with all the blood draws and he was just waiting for lunch.  I was there about 30-40 minutes when they came and got him for a chest x-ray.  Guess lunch will have to wait.  :)  Because he's over 50 they want him to have a cardiac stress test also.   Hopefully, they'll get it done either today or tomorrow, but it's a possibility that they will have to schedule him with the same cardiologist that I saw for my work-up.  This is frustrating because the "committee" meets on Wednesday and I was hoping we'd have an answer by then.  arrrhhgg!   I don't want to wait / waiste another two weeks!!!!

All of these tests take soooooooo long.
I hope this works out for you and that your brother is your perfect donor.

Well, he's been discharged with good results.  They do want to have him do a 24-hour blood pressure test, however.  I take it he'll go by the hospital next week and pick-up some sort of BP cuff and belt that he is to wear all day to work and stuff.  I say 24-hrs, but I'm not 100% it's that long.  Maybe just during the day (12 hrs?).  Anyway, it will take his BP throughout the day and download to this belt thing.  Then he'll return it to the hospital the next day and hopefully results won't follow too long afterwards.  The "committee" met this Wednesday, so we have another two weeks anyway.  They doctor didn't mention him having to get the stress test, so we're not sure if they decided he didn't need it or what.  I guess we'll find that out in the next week as well.   Has anyone had this type of BP test done before?

I guess I should say that his BP was at the top range of what they considered to be "okay".  If 120/80 is "normal", then "140/90" is as high as they will go before being considered "problematic".  Although the doctor said that if he was his patient he would just have him modify his diet (lower sodium/salt, sodas, etc.)  He said he doesn't feel as if he needs medication at this point.

Cross your fingers!     :bow;  (this is me praying)   :)

Both my aunts had to do the 24 hr BP test.  They found it really uncomfortable and basically didn't do it at night.  Hoping all goes well for both of you.

I have Alport's Syndrome. My kidneys failed when I was 14 and I was on PD for five years before receiving a kidney transplant from my mother. That kidney failed in 2004 and I've been back on PD ever since. I am undergoing treatment for my high antibodies at Cedars-Sinai medical center. I had a kidney transplant on June 10, 2008. My boyfriend was the donor.

I found out yesterday that the doctor who saw my brother in the hospital and said that if he was his patient he would just modify his diet and not put him on BP medications is one of the doctors on "the committee".  My nephrologist seems to think that's a good thing.  ???

This doctor asked my brother how committed he was to donating and my brother said "very committed".  They discussed it more and that's when he said to do the 24-hr BP monitor.  Again, my nephrologist said that it sounds "promising".

I have my fingers and toes crossed, but I'm not getting myself all worked-up.
