Breath smell

John is awaiting Dialysis, has had kidney failure for just over a year now. At first he had body odour, that's now gone (or maybe I've got used to it). Now he has smelly breath, smells like urine. I buy lots of peppermints for him to suck, but is there another cure ? I know he can't help it, as he has false teeth and cleans them regulary.

Kidney failure and associated uremia gives a fetid ammonia smell and dialysis can give a fishy odor to the breath. Wish I could help you out more.

I brush my teeth alot and suck on tic tac mints. My husband says he can't smell anything wrong but I know for sure he's lying. I taste in my mouth like I've been drinking bleach or ammonia that's been sitting around all day in a metal cup. Some days it actually feels as if it's burning my tongue and throat. Also dry mouth makes it worse for some people. Lemon drops are good too.

For me, some weeks are worse than others regarding this issue.
I brush my teeth many times a day because I can't stand the taste or smell.
I shower everyday and at times take a bath at night too.
I have to wash my sheets often due to sweating.
I always carry gum, mints, or candy and try to never have that dry-mouth sensation.

Randy has false teeth too but cleaning them regularly doesn't help. He buys big bags of dum-dums and has one in his mouth most of the time.

Thanks for your replies, it looks as though John can keep on sucking his mints. I was a bit afraid they might not agree to his one pour under working kidney. We have a list of things he can have and a list of things he can't have, but peppermints do not come up on either list.
Yvonne PS how can I change John's photo on his profile please.

oh yeah. the dreaded bad breath. I hate that. So far I haven't gotten the sweats, am not looking forward to that. I chew a lot of
(sugarless) gum, brush teeth often, drink COLD icy drinks (am on pd), to alleviate the dryness. Mints are good, whatever works
for him!

I've never had a problem with bad taste or breath but I still take a little nip occasionally just in case I do.
