Me with Baron von Fresenius

« on: March 25, 2008, 02:14:52 PM »

Throughout last week, I had been feeling unusually tired, and as I was visiting my grandmother for Easter, I got so sick I ended up going to the hospital. It turned out that I'd gotten a septic staph infection through my catheter. I was pumped full of antibiotics, and kept for two nights. My catheter was also replaced. I'll be continuing IV antibiotics at my dialysis centre for the next two weeks. I feel really tired now, but I just need a few good nights of sleep.

Adam, I am sorry this happened.  Thank goodness you know your body so well that you knew to go to the hospital and not wait it out.  I hope this week will be a restful one and you can just rest and feel better. :grouphug;

This happened to me last July, I felt absolutely horrible.  The source of the infection was also found to be my cathetar.  Good news is that, with the antibiotics I recovered rather quickly, hope the same for you.  One of the side effects of the infection is that I had a lot of hair fall out.  It's growing back now.  Hope you feel better soon.

I feel a lot better now thanks to the antibiotics (vancomycin, IV). I've very cautious now, and I've been constantly taking my temperature to make sure the fever doesn't come back. The specific type of infection I had was staph coagulase negative. It's not the worst type of staph infection (like MRSA), but it can still be nasty if it's in the blood (which mine was). Hopefully once I finish my daily doses of vancomycin, I'll be able to avoid anther one.

Glad it wasn't the bad kind.  My son had one when he was a little boy and his wasn't the bad one either.  But
as you said 'it was nasty'.

Get well soon.
