I've been reading in other posts about some people being bored a lot. I just had a thought about what we do in those circumstances. I am a clay and tile artist so I have clay around all the time. My husband used to pick up a piece of clay and make a little sculpture with it. These little birds and animals ended up as the handles for the tops of sugar bowls, etc. He would sit for hours and make these little creatures. It's sort of mindless creativity. And fun. There are lots of things like this that people can do with arts and crafts. Just a thought.

I read a lot...I also quilt and crochet... and love to play board games and cards.... I can choose to be bored or find something constructive to do... I do crocheting when my back hurts and quilting when I'm having a good day.

Boredom is a challenge for me. I hate those feelings. I cross stitch a lot. I have recently learned to crochet and am just about to finish my first baby blanket. I have my next blanket planned and the yarn purchased. I also make jewelry from beads. I also make Iris paper folding greeting cards. I am involved in my church and go to as many of the activities as I can. My last hospital stay I got into Soduko puzzles. I also try to communicate with my family through e-mail and telephone calls. I am planning to sew. It gets very hot in the summer and I like to wear loose fitting dresses, I am planning to make several of them. I also love to garden. I live in an apartment now and have developed a patio garden just for the fun of watching the plants and flowers grow. I also have a dog that I spend a lot of time with. We walk as much as I can. I have a 17 year old daughter that I spend time just listening too.
I would be interested in other ideas that people have come up with to fill their days with meaning besides just surviving one dialysis session after another.

Like Loretta I also make jewellery, mainly earrings when I'm sitting watching TV at night. My other addiction is the Open University - I know it's available in UK and Europe but not sure if it gets any further? In some ways it's added stress to everything else I do but it also gives me a focus outside of my everyday life and broadens my horizons (and mind). I've done a BSc degree and now I'm working towards an MA in Social Policy - but it is scarily addictive, I started about 7 years ago with a health & Social welfare course because it looked interesting and I haven't been able to give up since

I have my music and song writing which I record in my little bedroom home recording studio. So I don't often get bored.

Hi Kickstart, I'm only a novice I bought a really useful book on Amazon called 'It's all about the beads' by Barbara Case (£12.99 new but I bought a used copy), it's very good and shows you the basics for 100 designs, what basic tools you need etc. I get supplies from www.thecrystalphoenix.co.uk, or sometimes ebay, the book also suggests some suppliers. Give it a go, I didn't find it as hard as I thought, although H. Samuel has nothing to worry about!

Volunteering is a good idea also. I used to volunteer at my hospital a few hours a week and it was fun.

No, I've been surprised, it costs just pence to make a pair of earrings - it all depends on what beads you use of course and you have to get a couple of tools to make bending the wires easy. I paid around £5 for a set of 3 pairs of pliers which do everything I need (that was from EBay) and the earring findings (as the metal bits are called) cost about 30p for 10 (so makes 5 pairs), plus another 20p or so for the headpins to fix the beads to them - all cheaper if you buy in bulk. Then it's just the cost of the beads, I've bought some that are about £4 for 100 but you can pick them up at all sorts of prices depending on size etc. Good luck, it's fun! (just love this bunny!!)

I love the daily crossword-puzzle in our local paper. I read a lot. Garden. Walk my 95 pound black lab mix. Try to learn to cook (works most of the time!). Once a year I try to take a semester long class through open-university or the local junior college. I used to volunteer but found I kept getting sick and run-down. Hang out with friends and family. Go for drives with my huband (He has a cool sports car). Next on my list is learning to knit.

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.

I read, crochet, find new recipes I want to try making, and if the boredom becomes too much, I do a little bit of housework

Susie got me hooked on Bubble Shooter! Never played it until she posted the link. It is my go-to stress reliever and it makes me think of her.
My problem isn't boredom; it is having too many projects, too many books (and bubble shooter!) and not enough time.
