Going through life tied to a chair!

« on: June 25, 2006, 05:45:14 PM »

My arm/shoulder is out of place.  Shooting pains are going down my arm when I reach for something.  Usually it pops back, but this has been going on 3 weeks.  I'm thinking about going to a Chiropractor (bone cruncher) but am not sure that is too smart with prednisone bones.  Anyone have an opinion?

I wish i had an answer for you Rerun,  but if you talk to the chiropractor and let him know your situation, hopefully he will advise you on what would be best,  that is just my opinion,  but please let us know cuz i am sure alot of us out there need to go see a chiropractor now and then,   my friend told me she went to a masseuse who refused to massage her cuz massaging releases toxins in the body and blood and she wasnt sure if that was good for a dialysis patient. (shrugs) so i just dont know

I would contact your Neph. and a few Chiropractors and get their oppions on the situation.  At least if nothing else you are well informed, and can say you tried.  You may also have something else going on in there.  Might be a good idea to contact your regular doc and have it examined, especially if this problem normally resolves itself.  For all you know it could be a side effect of your prednisone bones.  Not that I'm trying to be a downer, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Bless you child,
I'm on daily prednisone myself now for Lupus symptoms not controlled by plaquenil. I've had my shoulders shot up 3 differant times in the last 6 months with steroids when they got to the point that I couldn't move them a few inches away from my body. As a nurse I am very freaked out by this, knowing what prednisone can do. I went to wrap a young woman's arm with a BP cuff once and she almost came out of the bed in pain (I'm ususally a gentle soul). She explained that she had demineralization from the steroids, in fact later in that admission had a joint replacement in that shoulder because it fractured at the head of the bone when she used her arms to push up in bed.
If it were me (and it may be very soon, who know?) I would go to an orthopedic doc.
Good Luck and let me know how it all works out.

I read all these AFTER I went to the Chiropractor today.  I had seen him about 3 years ago for the other shoulder and he fixed that one.  I told him the situation.  We both agreed...."what is the worst thing that could happen?  I'm already in pain?"  He was very gentel and messaged the muscles before he went to cracking.  My arm felt a ton better, but hurts again tonight.  I'll go one more time and then tell my Nephrologist.  I know better than to ask before I go.  Most "Doctors" don't like Chiropractors.  But, I can FEEL that it just needs to pop.

Thanks for your input.  I never thought about an orthopedic surgeon or the fact that I could need a shoulder replacement.

You are so right, most MD's don't like the chiro's. I am personally for anything that makes you feel better. Let me know how it plays out in a few days. Have ou ever tried an ice pack on it? Sometimes it's the only thing that helps me.

My GP specialises in bones, and he said absolutely do not let anyone "crack" your bones. Because us dialysers have weak bones, cracking them can cause fractures. The best you can do is have regular massage and take pain releif. I went to him a few years ago to get my neck cracked as it was extremely sore, and I was horrified when he said no. So I had massages and took pain releif and after a few weeks it corrected itself. I am surprised that the chiro cracked you, I would think they should know about our fragile bones.

I know you are right.  It just felt so good and it helpped.  I tried the ice on the shoulder and that helpped too.  Thanks!

I'm sure taking some heroin would feel nice, and might help to relieve some pain, but I wouldn't say that it's good for you! hahaha  ;D
