The forum automatically categorizes by post count.

I wondered about that too. I can't remember if I read it in a thread somewhere or if I've just deduced this from observation, but my understanding is that you come off of "Newbie" status when you hit 50 posts, then you graduate from Junior Member to Full Member at 100 posts.  I'm not sure when Senior Member status kicks in (maybe 500 posts?) or what happens after that.
