The fountain was my blood - arterial vein.  Something seems to have gone wrong early in my dialysis.  I looked at my arm and there was lots of blood around.  when i told the nurse who put me on, she said that it was because I had bent my arm, and did nothing about it.  Another nurse came later, saw it, cleaned me off and put some gauze underneath the needle's wings, in case any more came out.  When it was time for me to come off the machine, the first nurse was taking me off, and when she went to pull the gauze away, everything came loose and for a split second I saw my blood spurting in the air!  she quickly took control, blaming the other nurse, saying it was a good gesture,but not a wise one.
I was just happy that it didn't go on very long!

I can't believe the first nurse was even bothered by whose fault it was...her job is to take care of you and keep things like that from happening! Glad you're ok!

I'm with Katie, the nurse that put you on and you informed should of taken care of it when it happen. What's with some of these nurses?  :banghead;

I got one of those the other day - I was pulling my last needle, which I do by myself, and the tape got stuck and yanked the needle away.  I managed to splatter the chair and the floor before I could cork it!  I'm going to invest in peroxide - it does wonders for bloodstains. . .

Must of been one of those days. When my needles are pulled I will hold both sites an I usually don't even pay attention. Well today I looked at my arm and the lower site gauze was solid red. So I lifted the gauze up and it just started running out of the surseal and down my arm. Of course no one was around. Ohhh hello...Help

When Marvin was in-center (he's home hemo now), that happened several times.  He's shot several techs (they didn't get the gauze on quickly enough) -- thank goodness, they had their face shields on.  Once, a nurse thought Marvin had his site (he always holds -- no clamps) and she stepped back to the machine -- and he didn't realize she was ready for him to hold.  Marvin shot a stream of blood half-way across the floor.  He just grabbed the site and applied pressure -- no gauze.  The nurse apologized and apologized, but Marvin made her laugh when he said, "There was a time when I could pee with that much pressure, too!"  (he doesn't peepee any more)

PEROXIDE ROCKS!
It was at my dialysis unit  about a year ago that I found out how hydrogen peroxide cleans up bloodstains (if you don't let them set in).  It was nearly miraculous.  I had on a white blouse and thought that would be the end of it.  The nurse just took peroxide and some gauze and worked on it. BINGO!  Blouse as untouched!
Sometime last year a friend sent me an email with all the wonderful things that peroxide can do.  When I find it again, I will post it in a thread.

I told the tech I was not ready and she wrapped me up anyway. So I get up to go and the blood runs everywhere.  i TOLD her I was NOT ready!
