Life's a bitch and then you go on dialysis!

« on: November 25, 2007, 10:09:31 AM »

Is anyone interested in posting some lyric suggestions for a song I want to write about dialysis?  I am at present writing material for an album and I want to put at least one song on it which deals with dialysis and what it means to have kidney failure.

I've mentioned previously that my hobby is writing and recording my own songs. Although it takes me ages to come up with good lyrics I usually get there in the end. but strangely enough I'm struggling with this one and would really appreciate some help

The song will be called 'Blood Machine' and all I've got so far is part of the chorus.
 ;musicalnote;
'Blood machine keep my body clean
Be good to me tonight'
 ;musicalnote;
I'm looking for something gritty and earthy with some irony. I'll add personal credits on the album cover for any one's  lyrics that I use. Unfortunately no money credits as I'm not famous so the album won't be on commercial release. When I finish the song I'll put it on Y-tube or some media site where anyone interested in hearing it could access it.

So come on all you wordsmiths out there, bring it on!
All contributions gratefully received.

When do I get to have fun?
When life gets to be too much
and I can’t handle it anymore
 I have to run in circles and scream
 I have to stand and scream it out.
But that is stress relief
Not fun.
Where is the fun?
I miss the fun.

Ring around the Rosie
Hopscotch
Blowing bubbles in the sunlight
Rolling down a grassy hill
With the sun beating down.
Playing tag.
Barefoot, summertime, till after dark.
Dozing off under a shady tree
With a book beside you.
Picnic basket shared with friends.
Now that is fun!

Dialysis, sharp needles
Blood running from pump to body.
Cold buildings.
Nurses, techs, dietitians, social workers.
Bills piling up
Because you cannot work anymore.
Medicare, social security, paperwork,
Just to get by.
Chronic Illness in my life.
Death looking over my shoulder.
This is not fun!

Watching movies on a personal DVD player.
Drinking an ice cold Cola.
Crunching on a cup of cold ice.
Reading a book from cover to cover.
Putting a warm pack under a blanket.
Talking to people who really care.
Headphones that block out the noise.
A TV that works, with cable channels.
Days on dialysis can be good
Sometimes.

But I still miss the fun
Spontaneity
The ability to pick up and go
Travel where I want
When I want to
Go and do and be
Whenever and however I want.
Now I have to plan it all out
Be sure to schedule and plan my life.
Fun has to be planned now.

It is the price I pay
For life.

I would love to hear your song when you are done. I have slow dial up and my computer isn't fast, so I don't know if I'll be able to hear it that way. But if you become famous with your music, don't forget your princesses. We will pose wearing our tiaras to be on the front cover of your CD.  :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; We can be your Kidney Kweens.  :rofl; :rofl; Kidney Kuties!,  :bandance; :bandance;
Sorry I'm no help.

Blood machine keep my body clean.
Be good to me tonight.
Make no sound - no alarms or bells.
I have no energy to fight.

????????????????????

I'm not creative!  lol

Nor am I on dialysis, yet!  This should be fun!

Let me have some rest
Hours sitting to be bled
Patience is my test

Romona, I am shining my tiara so it will be ready for the cover of Ken's best selling CD!

Ken, I want to hear it when it is done.  Can we have a preview party online? :2thumbsup;

 ::) Ladies ladies compose yourselves, I am a respectable married man who has lead a sheltered life and am no match for such worldly ladies as yourselves. I can see we will have to have separate dressing rooms on the concert tour. You can start looking for some stage outfits soon but I'm afraid you'll have to pay for them with your 5% share of the tour profits. How about a couple of those pointy boob tops that Madonna used to wear. ;D :rofl; :rofl;

Anyway  before this thread descends into another Brit thread fantatasy kingdom I'd like to stress to others reading this t that it REMAINS a serious attempt to gather good hard hitting lyrics...............Are you listening Paris and Romona?  ;) ;)

Plastic and steel,
Wires and switches,
Hoses stretching to eternity.
Hope is real,
How do I feel?
Ask me a little later.

This pile of parts,
Honed and tuned,
Whir and thump, spin and pump.
Hope is real,
How do I feel?
Ask me a little later.

Fear and fretting,
Cold, then sweating,
Emotions ride a roller coaster.
Hope is real,
How do I feel?
Ask me a little later.

Cleans my blood,
Flushes my fluids,
Dialysis gives me a second chance.
Hope is real,
How do I feel?
Like there will be another tomorrow!

Excellent :thumbup; I can certainly use a lot of what people have sent me so far and Aldante, there's a whole song there called 'Ask me Later' which I'll use as a separate song so now I'm hoping to have two songs. It will take some time because once I get the songs arranged in my head I'll start experimenting with with different production styles and then there's the studiop recording itself and dubbing all the instruments and then mixing etc but I will get there and you be able to hear the result in about six weeks time. Thanks for all your efforts, it's much appreciated. :clap;
