Life's a bitch and then you go on dialysis!

« Reply #26 on: November 30, 2007, 04:10:57 PM »

Well I wrote the song tonight. I've taken lines from the lyrics of Kitkatz and Aldante plus a few of my own. For those of you who sent lyrics in which haven't been used please don't be offended, I am so grateful for your interest and input. The song is a bit of a rant about what a pain in the arse dialysis is. I feel a little bit as if I am not really qualified to write lyrics like this because my symptoms are quite mild and I haven't yet experienced what some people on this forum have to put up with. As I've said in the song I can sympathize but can I really empathize until I start experiencing extreme symptoms? As I've said in previous posts 'I ain't seen nothing yet!'

Nevertheless I do read lots of posts and listen to what the posts say I've tried to reflect what people feel on this forum as best I can. And if you feel that I've hit the target I'll be well pleased.
So here are the Lyrics.

Blood Machine
written by Kitkatz Aldante And Ken Shelmerdine

Verse
DO YOU KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE?
DO YOU THINK I'M HAVIN' FUN?
DO YOU THINK I SLEEP AT NIGHT ?
NO WORRIES OF THE DAY TO COME
WELL YOU CAN SYMPATHIZE
BUT CAN YOU EMPATHIZE?
WITH EVERY DAY AND NIGHT SPENT
LOOKING DOWN THE BARREL OF A GUN

Chorus
THOUGH I GOT MY BLOOD MACHINE
KEEPING MY BODY CLEAN
I'LL NEVER BE LIKE YOU AGAIN
ME AND MY BLOOD MACHINE

2nd Verse
WIRES PLASTIC AND STEEL
STRETCHING TO ETERNITY
GIVES ME A SECOND CHANCE
BUT JUST DON'T ASK HOW I FEEL
I WANNA STAND ON A HILL
WITH A CUP OF COLD ICE
AND THE SUN BEATING DOWN
LAY MY BACK ON THE GROUND
WIN THE FIGHT

Repeat Chorus

Middle 8
PUT A WARM PACK UNDER MY BLANKET
TALK TO SOMEONE WHO KNOWS
BLOWING BUBBLES IN THE SUNLIGHT
PLAY A GAME IN THE SNOW

Repeat 1st Verse
Repeat chorus twice
End

I will record it over the next few weeks and then I have to figure out how to get it on Face Book. Watch this space!

I am offended.  :rofl; There is a song here in the good old USA that goes "Ah push it, push it real good" :usaflag;
I think the other song is "pump up the jam".
I have no idea what they mean by it because I don't really remember all the words.
Can anyone else here defend my honor?  :angel;
Sluff? Joe Paul? Paris? Susie?

By the way that is a very good song. I am still amazed how quickly you all put it together.

Romona...I didn't mean to get you in to hot tea with Ken  hehe
There was Push It (Salt n Pepa I think)& there's a different one that is Pump Up The Jams, which I own but don't remember the performer.
So while I don't know what Romona is thinking all the time, THIS time it was music    :clap;

Well I know Homer is no Benny Hill :rofl;, but you got to love him.
 Another great is KR Cincy's avitar Peter Griffin of Family Guy!

I am curious about your song writing. Have you made a lot of recordings?

Yes quite a lot but there are only a few of them which I consider good enough to let other people hear. It's something I started doing a few years ago when I quit playing in bands. The material I am writing at the moment is for an album which I hope to put on facebook (if I can figure out how to do it) and the song Blood Machine will be included.

Maybe you'll have to perform it on camera  :)

Right, I figured out how to do it. The song is on an audio upload site called 'Esnips' http://www.esnips.com/web/kenneth998-KensSongs

Click on the link above and it will bring you to a folder called 'Ken's Songs. Scroll down until you see 'Files' and then you'll see a title 'Blood Machine by Ken Shelmerdine. Click on this title and the page will change showing a media player. Click the start button on the player and you will hear the song.

I'm eventually going to edit the the credits of the song to include Kitkatz and Aldente because I took some of their lyric suggestions and put them in the song. I've tried to make the lyrics similar to the mood of many people on IHD who have a lot of shit to put up with. This comes over not only in people's posts but also in the lyric suggestions that many of you put forward. Thanks to all who contributed. Hope you like the song.

I heard part of it. You have a wonderful voice. I have to get tech support (one of the kids ) to show me how to down load it right. I can only hear a few seconds at a time. It sound very professional. You are awesome Ken!  :2thumbsup;

Paris and I will be you first fan club. Don't forget Kitkatz and Goofynina.

I heard the whole song. It took awhile for me to figure it out. I love it! You sound like Rodger Daultry or Pete Townshead.  ;musicalnote; :bandance;

Thanks Romona glad you like it. I'm just wondering if I should put the link on a new thread because I'm thinking that as people  look at the dialysis discussion list maybe they would skip past this one thinking that it was an old thread and  would not notice that it's been updated. What do you think?

Just heard it - I LOVE it!  :yahoo; Fantastic Ken  :clap; You've got a really nice voice, please don't be offended when I say I was very pleasantly surprised   :)

You should contact your local BBC Radio and get some exposure, it's time more attention was given to dialysis in this country. Hey you could be the next No.1!!

To answer your question, yes I think it should have a thread all of its own.
