Tonight I go to dialysis in a great mood- I get there and am hooked up, the usual deal. I am hooked up by a new nurse who seemed fine- well was I IN FOR A SURPRISE- Soon after she gets me hooked up I start to itch real bad on my fistula arm, and I call over a nurse who I know and trust, she wipes my arm with some alcohol pads and that seems to help with the itching- well then the shit hits the fan! My arm blows up like a damn balloon and hurts like hell- The dumb ass nurse infiltrated me!! I am sitting there and she just sort of walks off and lets the other nurses deal with it- boy I wanted to yell at her sooooo much, but didn't. Anyways, I then am unhooked from the machine and lose time so I get out a half hour later than I would have had she done her job right! Well that's not all- this old guy- he must have been like 90 years old comes in and sits next to me and immediately starts complaining about how the nurses told him that his potassium was too low and to eat A banana. WELL he must have not heard her since he ate 3 BANANAS so his potassium was now through the roof, so he starts yelling and saying ''I'm going to sue you all for 5 million dollars!!'' Well by this time he is swearing etc- but then his fistula must have clotted or something and he has to go to the hospital and hes complaining and being a real jerk off to the nurses who are helping him- he then complains that the ambulance isnt coming fast enough and that hes gonna die! I cannot believe some people and how they act- even if they know they are upsetting the other patients- and wow new nurses- STAY AWAY FROM THEM

What's dialysis?

Let's keep things in persepctive here.  An experienced nurse blew my fistula while using a new spot.  I don't think it is fair just to say stay away from new nurses.  I ended up staying in hospital after my arm blew.  It's one of things and it happens.  Everyone has to learn and nurses aren't infallable.

I had a new tech mess my arm up, sure anyone can do it, but I think newbies have a better chance of hurting someone.

My rule is if you inflitrate me don't come knocking again. The whole clinic knows it. Yes it might have been a mistake but my feeling is they would be coming back very nervous and that I don't need...Boxman

Sorry for your troubles, but just because she did that, don't mean you should stay away from new nurses.  :thumbdown; Not new nurses have done the same thing before also..  I feel for my ownself b/c I am going to school to be an RN... and shyt the way everyone talks about new nurses, I am screwed from day one.

Hey, the way I see it, everyone has to learn at some point, somehow. Everyone is new at one time and makes mistakes! Good luck Angela!
