As my kidney function deteriorates, I find I am becoming increasingly anxious and depressed.  I suppose that is only normal.  I am really struggling to find ways to pull myself out of my funk.  I need some good news.

So give me some good news about yourself and your health.

Did you have a good dialysis day today?

Did you get some good lab results?

Did you get a good night's sleep?

Did you get an encouraging word from your neph or from a nurse?

Are you draining and dwelling without discomfort?

Did your PD training go well today?

Are you happy today?

Are you looking forward to tomorrow?

MooseMom it sounds like you need to treat yourself to something good. I don't know what to say to cheer you up...and I don't really understand, nor could I, because I'm not on dialysis. I don't even have diabetes. But I wish you the best and hope something I say or someone else says will cheer you up. We're here to help, so voice your thoughts and views.   :grouphug; :wine;

my husband is leaving for dialysis soon- he's smiling and happy- even though it was hard at first- he has ALOT more good days then tough ones all the time now!!

My son's 9th birthday is Sunday, and dialysis keeps me alive and healthy enough to be able to celebrate it with him!  :2thumbsup;

My ex has court today... it *should* go in my favor..  :yahoo;

Tomorrow I am going to lunch and a movie with my new boyfriend...  :2thumbsup;

What I would suggest from my own personal experience starting Dialysis 3 1/2 years ago, make sure you remember that balance is the most important aspect of your life to achieve.  At first, it will feel like Dialysis affects everything in your life.  After a while, I hope you reach a place where Dialysis just happens to be something you have to do every week, not something that defines or controls your entire life.  It took me at least a year to get to that point, but once you do you'll find you appreciate the finer points of life much more.

As for the good things in my life now:

--- I'm able to work full time at my radio job (I've wanted to be in radio since I was twelve years old)
--- I work out three times a week (bye bye 30-something belly)
--- I'm up for a promotion at work (when Dialysis started I thought my radio career was over)
--- I laugh a lot more than I used to (Dialysis hates it when I laugh)
--- I haven't been in the hospital in nearly two years (they used to know me by name)
--- I'll finally pay off my student loan next year (it's been tied to my wallet for years)

I agree with others above.  When things look their worst when you first start Dialysis, do something nice for yourself.  Even if I couldn't find anyone to go, I would treat myself to a movie with the works (large popcorn, giant soda) and just lose myself.

And you might want to start a diary or blog about your experiences.  It's amazing how writing can release a lot of the misery and pain you're feeling.

No matter how bad i feel i try and make myself as happy as possible, whether it be being a smart ass or playing a prank on my mom or hubby, i just try to find something that i can say "now that is worth a memory"  :clap;

As for how my pd is going, i am hoping it is going well, at least i think it is going well, and i hope it keeps on going and going and going (if ya know what i mean) :P  I do not worry about my labs, i worry about how i feel,  i usually feel great UNTIL i get the results from my labs then they make me feel as if i am sick, so that i am getting used to already, lol, my dwells and my drains have been good and clear and most importantly quiet (no alarms)  :thumbup; 
I have been sleeping better these days, a little harder in fact (hmm, now i wonder if that is better or not) lol, but hey, i will take heavy sleeping over no sleep any ol' day thats for sure.
And as for look forward to tomorrow, you bet i am,  :waving;

The 3 years of Jenna's dialysis seemed to move so slowly. Yesterday we celebrated 9 months since her transplant, and it's gone by in the blink of an eye.

I hate the Pollyanna "things could be worse" speeches - but I just want to say that a dear friend of ours has been told that the chemo and radiation didn't change the cancer, and there's nothing else that can be done.

Thank God there are options for kidney patients.

Yes Karol... we are lucky that dialysis is an option.

I had dialysis today, and surprisingly laughed for about 3 hours strait!  My techs and nurses are honestly very cool.  I mentioned in another thread about a benefit dinner and auction that I am having on Nov. 10th.  Well my lead nurse told me to bring a flyer to the clinic to hang up.  I did today, and every nurse and tech made it a point to come to me personally to tell me that they will be there.  I thought that was very nice... and it made me smile.  My clinic makes me not dread going to dialysis.... and that makes me smile too   :2thumbsup;

Wade was supposed to get his heart shocked back to a normal heart rate today, (he was at 170ish and needed to be around 110) and we were both scared. Well, someone is looking out, because the second they slapped the sensor things on him - whoop! down to 108 and it stayed there!

I seriously need to thank SOMEONE for that ...

Okay...I gave the district language arts test today to the 6th graders.  I had a good dialysis run today.  Dinner was carne asada tacos and beans and rice.  Going to go to bed soon. A good day for me!

I'm not on dialysis anymore but b/c of dialysis (doing it at night).  I had the day free to myself to be normal (with a tube hanging from my belly).  Almost 3 months past my transplant and I have felt this great in about 10 years!!

If the anxiety gets you too much, I took Lexapro 10mg.  It works in a couple of weeks and I still take it today b/c it works so well.  Well, and Dr orders too.  Haha :bandance;

LOTS of good things...
Yesterday was my day off dialysis...always a good day!
I'm married to the most amazing woman EVER!
I have a wonderful 8 year old (step)daughter!
Though I'm kidney-free, I'm also currently cancer free!
I work fulltime, went to a comedy club last night, going to the theatre tonight, all normal stuff in the midst of a truly abnormal situation!
I'm blessed with great friends and a loving, supporting family!
I've found this place to share all this craziness with...thanks all!

That is such a heartwarming story. I read a lot on this forum about uncaring techs at dialysis centres so it really is refreshing to hear this.

I'm pet sitting a friend's dog, so now we have 3 in the house!
I finished my screen printing project for class today!
I actually feel fine today (except for the pesky, itchy mosquito bite I just got)!
I'm not cold!
I'm going to Buffalo on the 3rd for a Bengals/Bills game with my husband, Mom and my Mom's boyfriend!
I get to go visit my family for Christmas (after 3 years of Christmas with the hubby's family)! Yeah!
I have a 3.85 GPA at school!
I'm addicted to IHD!
My husband is AWESOME (and so are my dogs!

These are all great things!  Life goes on despite kidney disease and dialysis, though sometimes it is hard to remember that.  It is good to be reminded.

Yesterday I had my schnauzer Ilsa groomed and she looked so good I took her to the home training unit of my dialysis center.  It was not an exceptionally good day for the staff but when they came out to look at her they had  big smiles on their faces.

When I do home hemo, Ilsa goes to another room while I do my hookup and then comes back and lies on the floor while I do my treatment.  Unlike testy in-center neighbors she never complains about my stories, my singing, my selection of TV programs or my occasional snoring.

Life is good...
