My best friend came over today and washed all my exterior windows.  Then he swept my walkway, vacuumed my house, cut some beautiful branches of quince flowers for the house.  All this because he knows my girlfriends are coming over this evening and I like things nice but have no energy of my own.  Oh he also ironed my silk blouse and my husband's shirt.  We've been friends since I was 18 and we went to the same university in France.  He's the best.  My friends call him my "other" husband because he takes such good care of me.  He and my real husband are good friends too.

After spending 4 days caring for my 83 year old father while my mother was out of town, I am finally home today.
I am so happy to be home.

For the first time that we've been together, both my girlfriend and I are completely debt-free!

And doing well enough that we bought a 42" plasma tv and it didn't wipe out our bank account!

I miss a lot of work and feel like hell while I am there sometimes but I am still better at my job than my "healthy" co-workers. that is good (to me) and bad for my employer  :rofl;

Today's good thing - my cold is finally going away.  I managed 25 minutes on the treadmill without having a coughing fit.  I have company coming on Monday to do crafts with me.  My graft is still holding up, which means I don't need a perma-cath yet.  All in all, I'm doing pretty good!

Six months ago my doctor called to tell me my cholesterol was too high at 273 (Triglycerides = 86, HDL = 62 and LDL = 194) and he wanted me to start Lipitor right away.
I decided to try improving my health through exercise and nutrition before beginning meds.
After walking 3 days a week, adding more fruits and vegetables to my diet and taking flax seed oil and red yeast rice pills, I have lost 41 lbs. and my labs improved.
Now my cholesterol is 201 (Triglycerides = 70, HDL = 63 and LDL = 124) which is still a little high, but in the normal range!
 :bandance; I hope it keeps getting better and I can avoid taking any new meds.

It's a lot easier with the stress of Jenna's dialysis over with. I realized how much I neglected my own health during the last 6 years. I finally have the energy to focus on it now!

Yes! All the walking has made me feel stronger. The other day I picked up a couple bags of sugar (10 lbs.) and had trouble carrying it around. Made me realize how much stress my heart was probably getting with extra weight on me. I am still walking an hour 3 times a week and hope to keep it up. I met with a nutritionist once a month and her input was invaluable.

OKarol,

For what it's worth... I take "Fish Oil" capsules for LDL and HDL control.  They are available as prescription (Lavaza) or over the counter. Since I've been taking them, my LDL and HDL are both in the acceptable range all the time.  The concept behind them is that heart disease arising from LDL and HDL is rare in countries that have a diet principally from from fish.  It seems to work in my case.  FYI, the OTC fish oils may give you a fish taste when you burp but the prescription doesn't.  However the prescription fish oil is quite expensive.

I, too, take OTC fish oil, and I found several brands (including the one I'm taking) that controls the fish burps.  The ones I take are by Nature Made.
