Dialysis Center Observation

My mom always wanted to come and sit with me during dialysis and I just couldn't let her do it. I use to see how sad she would get everytime she saw my catheter! How on earth was I going to let her sit there and watch me hooked up to a machine like that. I just never had the heart to let her do that. I think for everyone it's different. Different people, different opinions, different ways of looking at things.

Jenna would usually sleep so I would go home. If I had a bad feeling about a tech, or they seemed slow to put her on, I would sit for a little bit. They had a rule that family had to step off the floor during sticks, which was stupid because it wasn't because of germs, it was because "sometimes families interfere" - WTF?? They just didn't want witnesses LOL! I would drop in after a couple hours and bring Jenna dinner, or get there early to be sure they didnt take off too much fluid. I guess I just wanted the clinic to know that I might just pop in anytime, so to take good care of our girl!

At Jennas centre were you allowed to self-cannulate? What if as her mother you wanted to learn and put her on yourself, could you do that under their stupid "family off the floor rule"?
