Hi! I'm Janet. I'm 30 and have been a type 1 diabetic for 24 years now. I was first diagnosed with problems 2 years ago when my creat went from .8 to 2.1 within a month. Since then, my kidney function declined to 19% 6 months ago. It is still declining, but a little slower pace. I'm not quite on dialysis yet, but I've doing lots of research so I can be prepared and this site looked great! There seems to be more knowledge here and support than at any of the doctor's offices I go to! My doctors kind of pass me off to one another and pretty much just blow off everything I tell them.

I just got married to the most wonderful man in the world 3 months ago (he loves me despite my failing kidneys!  :clap; ). As I said before, I am 30, I am going back to school for graphic design (more for information refreshment than anything), we have no children, but 2 great dogs and we live in Ohio in the US (I spent 27 years of my life in the Baltimore/Washington, DC area, so I'm really an East Coast city girl at heart tho).

I'm kind of new to message boards, about a week in fact, so I'm still getting used to posting in general, so please bear with me!

Once your kidney function is under 20% you can get listed for a transplant.  Make sure and ask your Kidney Specialist about getting on the transplant list.

You do NOT have to be on dialysis to be listed.

Welcome to the site.

Welocme Janet.  You have come to the right place for information and support.

Rerun is right.  Go for a transplant with dialysis being a second choice.

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.
