Wade and I.

« on: July 20, 2007, 12:02:59 PM »

Wade is on his second doctor, and he is amazing! I found out about him from an aquaintace who had a transplant 12 years ago. He is so smart, and cares so much about us, and has given us so much help!

His name is Todd Gehr and he is based out of MCV here in Richmond, VA. He is such a "hot s**t" doctor, but he has been amazing. We are so lucky to have him here.

"Todd Gehr
Dr. Todd Gehr is the chief of the nephrology division at Virginia Commonwealth University and the Medical College of Virginia Hospital. He serves as medical director for the RAI Care Center in Mechanicsville, Virginia. A graduate of West Virginia University Medical School, Dr. Gehr has authored more than 60 medical articles and has been published in nearly 20 medical journals and text books. He currently serves on the medication measures for CKD/ESRD expert panel for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and as the physician director of peritoneal dialysis for the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals at Virginia Commonwealth University."

Girlfriend of Wade, on dialysis since 5/11/07 and NxStage since 8/20/07. We're hoping for a transplant as soon as his "FGP" is gone!

I am glad Wade has a good doctor!

It has been said (and this could apply to doctor's too IMHO) -- You may have to kiss a lot frogs before you find your prince!

We survived a lot of frogs, but luckily Jenna finally got some really good care!

I had my first transplant at MCV, and though I'm sure things have changed greatly in 25 years, I have no doubt you're in good hands. Dr. Lee was my surgeon, and I think my neph's name was Dr. Mendez. They're probably both long since retired by now.

I received a 6 out of 6 antigen match transplant on January 9, 2008. Third transplant, first time on The List.
