Westchester Man Undergoes Heart, Kidney Transplant

wnbc.com

POSTED: 11:05 am EDT July 6, 2007

VALHALLA -- Surgeons at the Westchester Medical Center have performed an unusual operation: a combined heart and kidney transplant.

The patient, 63-year old Paul Brand, a Westchester resident, is doing well.

Brand, a realtor from Tuckahoe, was first diagnosed with heart disease as a child.

He had been on the waiting list for a heart transplant for nearly 5 years and recently suffered renal failure as a result of his weakened heart.

Only about 20 such procedures have been performed in New York state.
