I am not sure if some former transplant patients had this dilemna.  I want to gain a few pounds but do not know the best way how to.

One way is to consume a lot protein (beef, chicken, pork) but afraid of hurting my new transplanted kidney.  I am 5'5 and 120 lbs.

This is my typical diet.  Morning:  Oatmeal or Cereal

Lunch:  Chicken sandwich or mid-size bowl of noodle

Dinner:  Soup and salad plus steak

Perhaps I need to take nutritious supplements.  Any advices?

as listed that diet isn't balanced, where are the fruits and vegetables? adding a starch, potato or pasta at dinner would probably help.

I'm about the same height and weight as you, and for me they suggested 8-11 ounces of protein a day. From what you wrote it doesnt seem like you are necessarily eating that much protein, so I dont think it would hurt your kidney to add a little more. However, you should probably check with your transplant doctors or dietician.

Because when the first time my own kidneys slowly deteriorate, doctors advised me to watch my consumption of protein.  I see plenty of bubles in my urine so I am just a little bit concerns.  Is that normal?

Do you know your protein levels in your blood? Whenever my blood tests come back, I get a copy of the results so I can track my protein amongst other things. That might help you to make sure you're consuming enough to help you gain the weight you need, but not too much so that you hurt your kidneys. The kidneys get damaged when it is excessive amounts of protein. As long as you have a balanced diet and not an all protein diet, I think you should be fine.

How about adding weight training to your weight-gaining efforts?  Muscle weighs more than fat.
And remember, you also need a sufficient about of calories per day, so not to lose weight.

Yep, I remind myself to eat a balanced and health diet every day.  I am not much of weight training person but I enjoy physical or cardiovascular exercises such as jogging or basketball but lately I am more into cardio. stuff.

Ask your doctor for a referral to a nutritionist who is familiar with transplant patients.

Looks to me like you are not eating enough fruits and vegetables, and not enough calories for someone who is doing cardio workouts.  What are you eating for mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks?  That would be good times to add fruits and veggies.

At 5'5" and 120 pounds, who told you that you are too thin?

How's your weight gain going?

At 120 lbs. which equals about 55 kg, to gain weight you need around 35 calories for every kg of body weight per day = 1,925 calories/day.

Well I am up to 123 lbs.  I try to load up with carbo. and veggie during lunch.  When I am active and exercise at least 4 times a week, each time for at least half an hour, I sweat and go back to 120 very easily.

As far as calories is concern, my diet is not a typical meal like some of you.  My main course of meal is usually either rice or noodle.  Sometimes, I do grab a burger or salad from take out.  How do I measure calories for this type of diet?  My main concern is try to avoid excessive red meats.  May be I should consider nutritious drink or go back to whole milk.
