My Dad has a fistula in his upper left hand arm. They have just started to use this access this week.
I noticed after yesterday's dialysis session, the fistula looks fine, a little sore, but no swelling.
However I noticed today he has swelling with no redness on his lower left forearm and it is
a bit hard. Is this normal? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. He did experience clotting on
Tuesday not because of his arm, but I was told the heparin level was not correct. Thanks!

I have my fistula in my upper left arm as well and as far as the lower part of it swelling, the only time that happened is when they infiltrated me.  That lead to swelling in my upper and lower arm and quite a bit of bruising,   do you know if he had any pain during his last session?  I hope it all goes well for him and nothing major comes of this, please keep us posted.  Godspeed to you and your dad  :cuddle;

Thank you so much. He has dialysis on Tuesday and I will have the nurse check it out.
There was some bruising, but it does not look like infiltration. He had his fistula done in December
and they are having problems using it. If they can not access it he is scheduled to have a graft done
in July. They have only successfully used it 5 times since December. Thanks again.
