My name is Dawn and I have FSGS but haven't progressed to ESRD.  I was diagnosed with FSGS about 15 years ago after having problems for several years.  I am awaiting my latest biopsy results and since my neph keeps telling me that he's amazed I'm not having kidney failure (he repeatedly pokes my ankles while I'm in there), I've been doing more research again after not paying too much attention for a long time.  I found this website a week or two ago.  From what I've read, I keep thinking I have everything backwards - all these things that are supposed to be a cause for kidney disease or a result of I've gotten out of order.  My doc found that I had high levels of uric acid when I was 25 but I never did have a gout attack.  I was diagnosed with FSGS at 31, at 43 with slightly elevated cholesterol, and now at almost 46, I'm showing signs of being pre-diabetic.  I've never had a problem with high blood pressure.  My protein is a little over 5 g but my creatine hasn't been higher than 1.5.  Last time my protein was high aspirin brought it down.  I haven't read that anyone else has tried that anywhere.

Personally, I'm married and live in Pasco, WA in south-eastern Washington state.  I'm Canadian  :canadaflag; but I married an American and here I live  :usaflag;.  We have two dogs and spend a lot of time playing and walking them (I'll see if I can figure out how to put in a picture).  We're pretty active - skiing and white water rafting especially, and we really like traveling.  No two-legged kids so far.  I guess the Canadians may have noticed I'm using U.S. spelling - it's less keystrokes!  I work with disabled kids in a high school as a vocational counselor and my husband is a scientist (yes, very mad!).

I have lots of questions I hope to be able to find some answers for.  I'm looking forward to talking with many of you!

HI Dawn and welcome.  I am the same age as you and not yet started on dialysis but I have had my access in.  Gorgeous dogs.  I have two beautiful dogs as well.  I hope you can keep your kidney disease at bay.  My creatinine was 1.8 when I was 25 so I have progressed really slowly.  Just hoping to make it to October so I can go to Vegas for the IHD meet.  I live in Australia so it would become pretty impossible for me to go if I have to start dialysis before then.

Hope you enjoy the site.  We are all a tad crazy....watch out for Kit and Goofy in particular.  I am sure their sense of humour gets them through a hell of a lot. You'll love it here. xxxx

Great introduction dawson,

I too have FSGS and still hanging on to my kidneys as well. I love your dogs and I love the state of Washington.

Thanks for the introduction and sorry for having to re-size your picture but it is in the rules about what we allow. You may not have read them yet as you are new and that's not a problem.

It's great that you have found us and I look forward to your future posts.

Welcome to our community, Dawn.   Your name is the English translation of my name - Aurora!  We are glad to have you with us.  I join with the others in wishing you freedom from ESRD.  We love it when we get a good meaty intro like yours - that is the kind our founder Epoman particularly liked.  Keep on posting and let us know how you are doing. We consider ourselves a real family here, so take advantage of all there is to offer.

Thanks for resizing the picture.   :oops; It was a lack of technical knowledge that lead to that.  It looks much better now!

Also, thank you so much for the warm welcome everyone :grouphug; much appreciated!
