Lots of pain :(
«

Hi all,
Yesterday all of a sudden I had a sharp aching pain whenever breathing in on my right side below my rib. Right where my rib ends. I was definitely fluid overloaded. I had dialysis today and we got most of the fluid out supposed to be 39 kg reached 39.8 kg. Im still in a lot of pain. This makes it hard to do things. The nurse practitioner came in today and seemed concerned. Also i would really appreicate if you all could give me ideas of foods to eat that wont go toward my fluid. Trying to cut down.

Sorry that you continue to have new pain points.
Regarding low liquid foods, its probably easier to focus on what not to have. That would be anything that converts to a liquid easily or is very moist, also its very important to control the salt intake so you are not driven to drink more.
So foods that are liquid like and you should avoid, soup, watermelon (its all water), things that are frozen/set liquids like cream, ice or gelatin, syrups, anything you drink or could drink, sauces, gravy, pastas and casseroles .
Here is a link with some pointers.

All that Iolaire said and snack on digestives with cream cheese (it will make you feel full though). What did the nurse think what the problem was? And did you tell her about the blood in your line?
Love, luck and strength, Cas

The nurse told me to tell the doctor if it doesn't improve by next treatment. She seemed concerned though. And they didnt say anything about the blood in the line so im guessing its normal.

Seems like fruits contribute to fluid in most cases, so like when I have pineapple, I try to cut down on other fluids. As was said, watermelon is a big one that contributes to fluid, though during the summer I will freeze cubes and use them like ice.

Anything containing lots of sodium can be bad also as it causes you to retain fluid. Chinese food is notoriously high in sodium as is most packaged food. The sodium level in bread is what surprised me too.

Does that rib still hurt that badly?
Have you coughed extremely hard immediately before you noticed the pain?
I am a 50 + year smoker and have a chronic cough to clear the crud that accumulates during the night while sleeping. TWICE in my life I have coughed hard enough that I FELT, and heard, that bottom right rib snap/break. The immediate onset of pain almost put me on my knees on the floor. The first time I had to wait until the Dr's office opened, made an appt, went in for an X-Ray and confirmed it was broken. Dr told me they do not even tape them up any longer as it restricts breathing too much. Some people develop pneumonia when taped up for broken ribs so now they just leave them alone and let them slowly heal on their own. Breathing is a pain. Coughing and sneezing are insanely painful. Keep a firm pillow within reach and hug it very tightloy when you feel the need. My second time I didn't bother calling in as I already know Dr wouldn't do anything.
I was surprised to learn just how common it is for people to break ribs. Far more than I would imagine. It ain't no fun for far too many weeks.
Stay very careful.

The pain is at the bottom of my rib. I cant laugh cough or snerze without having to hold it down. Breathing in hurts it also. I woke up today and the pain is the same:(

Entirely possible you broke the rib while sleeping. The only way to know for sure is have an X-ray however most Dr's won't do much of anything except write a prescription for pain meds which do not relieve the pain, merely make you stupid enough so not to care so much. A couple of beers may do the same. But you may be better off with bourbon as that won't require quite so much fluid intake. We are on dialysis after all and must watch our fluids.
Broken ribs SUCK. They take soo long to heal. Leaving us in pain for far too long.
Stay very careful.

It sounds like a rib to me, but I would advise you to see a doctor in case it isn't.

I've seen my Father break the same rib leaning against a counter, reaching for something on the other side.
OUCH!
