Just asking, but is it poss to get rid of the ban for life of the site thing? Even when a member has decided to do something really stupid that disturbs the integrity ot the site? Cos I miss Noahvale, and it is him particularly who saved me, and so many others for years, and years.

I mean I understand the integrity thing, but aren't we a family? Don't we know how easy it is 'especially as a D person' to get só angry that you do something stupid that you can never take back?

Unfortunately Noahvale made a decision to delete all of his posts from the forums.
He took valuable information off of the site that will NEVER be recovered.
By deleting posts he ruined the continuity of every thread he answered.
Because of his decision he was banned.  If he had not deleted his posts he would still be here as a member.
He made this decision all by himself.

As the admin I do not trust a member who would delete their posts in a pique of anger, so their ban stands at a forever ban.

There are other times where a temporary vacation ban may be enforced, then the member can come back and post on IHD.com.

I do not take lightly the banning of a member.

I don't know what happened with Noahvale and don't really want to know, but I DO know that he provided a LOT of extremely helpful information over the years.  I am really saddened that he saw fit to delete all of his posts.  I had not been aware of this.  Such a shame.  Many people looked to him for guidance and knowledge.  Same goes for Hemodoc; I wish he was still around.

I think that some members think the admins just decide to ban someone, just because. 
Not true, it takes a lot of thought on our parts to ban someone who is a contributing member to the forums.
I do not like to ban anyone and will always provide a reason to the member that is banned.

There are a few things that will get a ban immediately:
Spamming the board
Advertising on the forums.
Personal attacks on other members on the board. Although this on a case by case basis. Sometimes these posts are left in threads for continuity's sake and members are PMed about issues and warnings and/or bans are given by the admin.
Deleting of posts will result in an automatic ban for anyone caught doing it.  We do not care who it is or what it is about, they will be gone.
Arguing with an admin in open forum will get an automatic ban on the member.  Keep to a PM to argue the points with an admin.

The ultimate caveat is:
At anytime a member can be banned at the Admin teams sole discretion.

There are a lot of things  going on behind the scenes that no one knows about because the admins are working hard to keep the forums free of problems.

I do not consider this conversation an argument with the admin. This has been a frank discussion of an issue of concern to members.
I want to thank everyone who is participating and keeping it respectful.

I am a member of a number of other 'boards', one of which only allows editing of your own posts within the first FIVE minutes.  After that each post becomes permanent, no editing except by admin, which is like, almost NEVER.  Pretty much you post it you own it.  For longer than life.  For as long as the boards servers remain in business.

Just a thought as I too miss some of Noahvales posts.  I struck me as a very well informed person on many subjects.  I valued his postings.  And don't doubt much the same for any other x-member, I forgot his name, but saw his retractions in a number of threads that I was very interested in.

It is a shame that some people can get such an attitude that they want to remove everything.  They really are hurting everyone.  I suppose in their anger they aren't clearly thinking of anyone else.  Sad.

Our members here are lucky, so far, they can edit their posts for spelling errors by using the modify button at anytime.
Sometimes I do not pick up spelling errors or typos the first time through, or even the second time I read it.
As long as members are not changing meaning in their posts, they are welcome to modify spelling errors.
However privileges can be taken away on the forums if it is a problem.

Removing posts hurts the forums so much.  If there is ever a problem with a post you made and you want it removed, PM the admin with a valid reason.
Posts can be split by the admin, and moved to admin areas.  However posts are not deleted by the admins, just moved to private areas.

Always remember when posting to ihatedialysis.com forums, we have over 10,000 members, each with an opinion of their own, so...think before you post.

It might be time to put a limit on the editing time. As Charlie says, many other forums have it.
IHD has always tried to help when needed. People can ask the admin team to remove a post or change their member name if they feel it's necessary.
The members who delete all their posts are just vindictive or selfish, or both, and don't care a bit about all the people it affects.

It does seem that prohibiting people from deleting their posts after a short period of time protects them from their own, perhaps fleeting, tempers and perhaps saves IHD from losing some members who are clearly missed. I have great gratitude for the admins and all their work and their responsibility of managing this forum.

I googled this for simple forums a few days ago and did not see that it was an option, but that being said it was a very quick search. 

I agree if its against forum policy to delete posts then users should not have those rights if its technically possible to prevent it.

Thanks for checking into it kitkatz.  Hopefully this can save both the forums AND those individuals that otherwise would have to be banned for future deletions.

Too late for those already history.  Unless you want to send them a note.  Sort of a "You hurt us badly, but.... We still love you and forgive you." AFTER a sufficient time period.

At least this way, if a member 'drops' out' once they 'cool off' they may still have the option of coming back within the 'family'.

I'm sure none of us really ever want to lose members.  Anyone can have a series of 'bad days', get all wacked out of shape and do things that they would never normally do.  Punishments are required.  Programming checks to help make some of these actions NOT possible WILL save a lot of hard feelings all around.  We can't change History, but we can help direct our futures.

Hope your Guru' finds it easily done without a lot of trouble.
