You're talking to someone who used to unwrap all the gifts under the tree as soon as they were put there. I got very good at re-taping them to hide the evidence. My mom started putting numbers on them instead of names. As if that would make a difference!

Just point to the correct tree please. I promise I'll just look at the pretty paper. I won't touch it.  :rofl;

When I was 10, I did that one Christmas. One present was a St Christophers medal. On Christmas morning I opened it and mom said "Read the back." She knew I had opened it early and rewrapped it, so she had it engraved "To Snoopy, Merry Christmas."  :sir ken; She thought it was hilarious. I didn't and threw a fit, unrighteously so. Still have it, though.

I don't know why but this made me remember the old Burma Shave signs. Sometimes those highway signs were what kept my brother and I from fighting and my dad from having to pull the car over on family vacations.

Not many can relate to what you say, much less had lived those times.
Yes, was a neat way to keep the kids from doing dire things to each other on long trips.
I in my inimitable way, still play with words in this Burma Shave fashion.
Even in the face of how I butcher the English language.

So the big things were coming in 2015, but apparently have not yet arrived. So did they pass us by without stopping, or are they travelling really, really slow?  :)

KK said BIG, not good.

She may have started adoption for a baby elephant, and appointing members turns cleaning the cage.

Then again.....................................

The big changes happened before you became a member, Paul.  As I understand it, this site has new sponsorship, there are no longer premium memberships, and I think it was Simon Dog that had a big and helpful hand in making changes in how this site is run.  Hopefully he will come along and explain more about his role in the "big changes" because I don't really understand computer-y stuff.   :P

Well I guessed it was supposed to have done. But the thread starts with a promise of "something" coming, but never tells you what is coming, or when it arrives. So presumably it never did.

There was a gag on a TV show many years ago (I think Morecambe and Wise, but I'm not certain) where throughout the show they kept cutting to a card saying "He is coming". "He" never arrived, and at the end of the show they cut to a card simply saying "He has gone." This thread is kinda like a real life version of that gag.

P.S. If it is still to be decided: Can I vote for the elephant, I like elephants.

I believe these changes happened last year.  I have tried searching for the thread that explained everything that was going to happen, but I just can't; I'm sorry.  These changes didn't affect the way this forum operated; at least, those of us who are not computer savvy didn't notice anything, but I'm sure that behind the scenes, a lot of work and effort was expended in making this site more financially secure and efficiently run.

I think maybe Charlie B53 had a hand in the changes, too.

Can anyone supply the link to the discussion explaining what changes were made?  Thanks.

I'm so sorry, Paul.  No elephants.  Maybe penguins?

This may help in beginning to explain things.  No mention of penguins, though.  Nor elephants.

I'd say "thanks", but I'm still too broken up at the absence of elephants and penguins.

The site was moved to a new host (a company I consult for lets me do that sort of thing), but all posts and forum software were ported unchanged.

The only operational differences are (a) I added a mobile theme, and (b) I keep up2date with SMF (forum software) versions and update as new "production quality" releases come out (no beta versions) and (c) no solicitation of funds because hosting is now free.
