Going through life tied to a chair!

« on: February 17, 2006, 07:26:20 PM »

Some of you may wonder how to get a picture to the left of your post.   ???
You're not stupid..... I didn't know either!  ( well,....... I won't go there)  ;D
When you sign on, under the SEARCH bar there are 4 or 5 blue bars.  Click on "Profile."
Under "Modify Profile" click on "Forum Profile Information".

Here you can pick an Avatar (A Icon Picture that is not you)  Mine is Shakira.  I have no idea who she is, but I would like to look like her!  ::)  OR, you may upload your own picture if you have one scanned or a digital photo. When you change your picture... they all change for every post (past and future).

You are welcome to put a picture in the main text, but it takes a huge amount of bandwidth.   >:(

Please reply if you have any questions.  Epoman may have some other suggestions as well.

Rerun - Global Moderator  (That sounds like something from 'Left Behind.')   >:D

Thanks Rerun for the instructions. It's nice when member chooses an avatar or uses their own it really gives them their own identity on the site.

Also about adding pictures to a post or signature line. Feel free to add a picture but if it's a picture you will be posting all of the time please put it in the your profile so it shows up under your name. Also if you will be adding pictures to your posts please make them small in size and resolution to save bandwidth.

Thank you

I did a search for adding pictures and I found this thread but this is about avatars :(

Not exactly what I was looking for :( Oh well ..

But since anyone who is looking for HOW TO would go here I will put an explanation here. Is that okay? Just makes sense  :-[

When you are posting .. right under the window you are typing in there is an arrow and a link that says Additional Options...

Click that and you will see what is below in the picture I attached using this exact method!

okay - this seems like the right place to ask this. . .

I did the avatar thing with a pic of my cat on her favorite quilt.  I've also read the post on downsizing the pics into a smaller format.  I confess to having no idea whatsoever what size or format or jpeg or whatever my cat pic is in.  Do I need to shrink it down to make it work better on here?  Or is that only for pics being posted in a reply post, and not the avatars?  I saw the post with the program to download to shrink the pics, but I never download anything to this computer - my husband needs it for work, so I don't dare download stuff that may mess something up.  If I need to adjust the cat pic, will someone let me know, so I can have my tech geek husband do it for me?

Hello,

The Avatar looks fine to me. The Maximum size for Avatars is: 120x110 your is 120x90, so it is fine. Also in that thread you mentioned about the resize program, I also added a link for a ONLINE photo editor which you can read about here: http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=1297.msg16856#msg16856 Nothing needs to be installed on your computer.

I have some photos I'd like to post which for some reason won't load into any of my photo software so I down loaded the Powertoy program that Epoman recommended and all I got was a read me file. Can anyone help as I need to reduce the file sizes before I post them.

Ken, do you have a PC or Mac? I wasn't able to get the Power Toy program to work on my Mac, but this one worked great, and you can crop, adjust color and contrast, and resize -->  http://pixenate.com/index.pl
