i went to diayis
today i got there right before 9:30am
and the counslor was at the front desk
i ask her if they were ready for me
she went back to ask
and they said no
so ok... i was waiting and waiting
and the nurse came out for there was a clean
up that needed to be done outside
she saw me,, didnt say anything
i waited and waite again and finally
i went back and it was a little after 10
and they oh yea Bonnie
u can come in now.... and ok... i noticed the reg tech they
normally would have were not there... but here was one tech that
was there at my center maybe a yr ago....
so she was trying to put me on... but she kept not getting
my button hole right... so they ended up using the sharp... and i told her to go ahead and put the sharp in the button hole for it has been done before... and besides that its my arm... not there.... and i even ask sense im getting on late due to there fault can i get off early and the nurse even said they would adjust the time......BULL CRAP!!!!!!! they didnt even do that
today was one of those CRAPPY DAYS!!!!!! which i feel like making a serious complaint... the nurse even stated that they were going to get rid of all of the button holes altogether..... but if i recall right they said this before.... aparently it has to do with affections.. but yet either way you put the needles it can cause inffections...........THIS WAS NOTTTTTT GOOD DAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Button holes are usually for self-canulaters. They are generally not used for in-clinic/staff canulation, because buttonholes need the same angle of approach each time - something best accomplished with the same canulater each time.
Just curious - why were you having staff poke your buttonholes instead of doing it yourself?
Buttonholes have a greater risk of infection that new locations with sharps. I use 2% mupriocin ointment on the gauze when I tape up to get a bit of protection. No problems yet, but even perfect technique is not a 100% protection against infection.

either way
you can get infections
as of why the techs do it
well excuse me
but they have always done it
but each tech has a differnt technique
than the other by getting me on
but like i said this one tech had put me on
over a yr ago
and she just couldnt get the angle
correct
and it was just way
to frustrating
and you expect me to put
myself on
I DONT THINK SO
i dont like needles
and im pretty sure
i wouldnt be able to do it

I understand the fear, believe me. I waited for years before I actually tried. I had to get real angry first with the stupidity, arrogance, and ignorance of some of the staff. But you don't always get to choose though. I had to get real scared of the 'crappy' staff before I tried, and than I was surprised how I COULD do it (with sharps, which is , in a weird way, easier than BH)
I hope you won't wait as long as I did, and give youself some credit, and just try!
Lots of luck, and love, Cas

i dont have fear
of needles
i just dont like them
for me to be a diabetic

i do shots on other people
but with me
it takes forever...
i dont have the patients
to do my own shots
unless it is needed
i have been on dialyis 9yrs
and i wanted to learn i think
a tech my teach me
but it would take me forever
and like i said i know
there is no way i could

I filed a complaint with a dialysis center in TX. My EDW is a bit over 100kg, and they had me on a 160 filter "because that is policy for visitors". This was the equivalent of cutting my treatment short by 20 minutes or so .... and we all know what the dialysis centers tell anyone who cuts treatment short.
In the end, I got a letter asserting that although they did nothing wrong (as I still met the minimum clearance goal), the clinic was changing its policy of "no big filters for transients". I was very happy with how they handled the complaint - and with my local nephrologist for offering to proofread my complaint before I sent it.

and before i enter the dialyis area
i ask this one tech
if she was going

and she did
its strange for this has happen several times
where one of the dull needles wouldnt work
but the other one would.... it only seem
to happen on the bottom button hole
but it was a good day
