I have heard of this before but have never seen it.  The lady in the chair next to me at dialysis is always asking to be unhooked for 1 reason or another.  Today she was arguing with the nurse.  The nurse was trying to explain that she had was too much fluid and that it would be much better for her to stay for her entire treatment.  A little later I heard the pressure alarm sound on her machine.  I am 99% sure she pulled 1 of needles out of her arm.  There was blood everywhere! She was covered in blood.  Her face and clothes as well as a huge puddle on the floor.  Her chair was covered.  It was a big mess.  She got her way.

I've felt like doing that before, but I don't think I'd actually do it.  One of my needles fell out once, luckily was as after I had been unhooked from the machine.  The nurse who was taking my needles out took the tape off, then turned to get the bandaid off the table.  In the second her back was turned, the needle popped out on it's own.  Blood everywhere.  The nurse freaked.  I laughed my butt off.

When we first started using the fistula at home after months on the catheter, I got sprayed in the face and across the whole room . I had no idea how much pressure was in that fistula the first time I used it. WOW. Was that ever an eye opening experience. It scared the crap out of me.  I have great respect for those little needle holes now when i remove the 15 guage needles. I treat them like a rattle snake. VERY CAREFULLY AND GENTLY and NEVER TURN MY BACK. (I dont want to tick them off).

I do it every other day - no big deal.  Got a surprise once after untaping the needles - the pressure was enough to send the needle out of the arm.

I just re-read the name of the thread I chose.  This falls under you know you are a dialysis patient when...You read YLGuy's thread topic and know what he means without any sexual innuendo meant. lol
I will try to proof read the names of my topics better in the future.

No surprise to anyone but of course I chuckled at the topic

but yeah I have never seen someone do that. Closest I witnessed was a patient who was a VERY heavy sleeper.. and accent also on Heavy....

so this big guy fell asleep and rolled around in his chair so he was rolling ON some of his lines, thus cutting the flow and well.. you get the picture.

Problem was nurses trying to (gently) move the bulk off his lines resulted in them being kicked at by sleeping beauty (he just could not be woken.. indeed I did once see him seemingly sleep walk out of the unit, but he had been disconnected at the time)... and yeah...

they had to call the big guys from security to help safely move him off his lines.
