Hi !

As I said in intro, I am trying to get some help for lady in Croatia.
I know she is in dire situation, depend on medical staff over there
is like lottery. One in 500 will get somebody willing to help and treat
you with respect. Doctors are pompous fulls full of hot air. I can
go on and on about medical system there.....
Her problem is chest pain after dialysis. Somebody (other patient)
told her to take Resonium Calcium- to get rid of potassium (doesn't meter
that she doesn't know her potassium levels). She thinks it is helping...her
question for me was if we have in Canada more palatable resonium.
And other question is about vitamins. Nephrocaps are Rx so she can't
get it. I was thinking about Redox B with C and Mg- 1/4 of efferent tab.
And her BP is getting low after dialysis 100/70
What to tell her???
Only thing she is right about is Potassium -how to get low K diet.
And they alway keep her with her head down for all 4 hours?

Thank you,
Dea

Patients need to be very careful about vitamins.  Certain ones can be toxic to patients as they build up and are not easily removed,  usually the fat soluble ones.

However this is what is in a nephrocap vitamin.

Each softgel contains:

Vitamin C    100     mg
Folate                 1     mg
Niacin               20     mg
Thiamine    1.5     mg
Riboflavin      1.7     mg
Vitamin B-6    10     mg
Vitamin B-12    6     mcg
Pantothenic acid    5     mg
Biotin             150     mcg

RECOMMENDED DAILY AMOUNTS OF VITAMINS

Here are the proper dialysis vitamin supplements for kidney patients:
Description                   Recommended     Daily Intake           Amount     %

Vitamin A                                                   0                   0
Vitamin E                                                   0                   0
Vitamin D                                          Individualized for each patient
Vitamin K                                                   0                   0
Vitamin B1                                               1.5 mg              100
Vitamin B2                                               1.7 mg              100
Vitamin B6                                               10 mg              500
Vitamin B12                                              6 mcg             100
Folic Acid                                               0.8-1.0 mg              200-250
Niacin                                                          20 mg                 100
Pantothenic Acid                                   10 mg                   100
Biotin                                                           0.3 mg                100
Vitamin C                                                 60 mg              100

Thanks for numbers,
I see it is safer to go with 1/8 of the pill.

How about Magnesium ( it comes with Redox B) -with 1/8 of the pill it would be only12.5 mg daily.

 :thx;

It is suggested that dialysis patients do not take magnesium at all.

Just why can she not get nephrocaps or renal caps?

In Croatia you can't afford some things, and some are not available.
What I heard is that Nephrocaps is prescription item.

When I checked DRI for Mg- for her age is 320 mg daily.

Probably she can get that much Mg from food.

Reason why I picked Redoxon B - her sister can buy it for her in Canada, and I think it is better then taking nothing. Apparently she is very tired, it takes her 45 minutes to walk 2 blocks from bus station to hospital (she is traveling from smaller city). She is also troubled with cardiovascular problems- again I do not know what is diagnosis, but I am trying to get some blood work results e-mailed to me. They did recommend her Omega 3, which seems fine to me.

Same thing is with Renagel- it is prescription item in Canada, so only thing that I can give her sister is Tums, non Rx item- which is not ideal, but better then nothing.

And she is very afraid that her fistula will clot th, because of low BP.
