Fistulagram + Angioplasty = Cellulitis!

Frank had a fistulagram the day after Christmas. They tied off some rogue vessels, cleared out his vein and put in some coils. They sent him home with a tiny bandaid, They didn't give him any painkillers or antibiotics but I didnt think anything of it because the procedure seemed so minor. Long story short his hand swelled and turned red like a lobster and the pain was excruciating. He was admitted to the hospital through the ER diagnosed with cellulitis. I am grateful to his dialysis nurses because they spotted it and thought it was infected and arranged for him to have a dose of IV antibiotic before he even went to the ER. He's home now and finishing up his antibiotic treatment through the dialysis center. I never really heard of cellulitis before, I thought it was something old bags like me got on the back of thier thighs ; Anyway after reading up I see it can be really dangerous in diabetics. Oy Vey!

So glad they caught it!
I, too had to look it up. (I refuse to admit that I thought the same thing you did!
)
Hope he's doing much better now.

I think they used to call "cellulitis" - blood poisioning in the old days. My day would always watch scrapes and cuts, and if they started to turn red, or streak, he'd say, lets get antibiotics for that, before it turns into blood posioning. My hubby gets a fistulagram tomorrow, so I will watch out for this.
