So I went to my meeting and the treats (they usually have treats every meeting) was of course chocolate. Wait - they did give people an alternative. One cake was chocolate with caramel-y frosting (and coconut shreds) and the other was chocolate-y marble cake. Usually coffee is also served, but I guess someone forgot to start the pot today. No problem, I slurped up the water I had remembered to bring and mingled. Of course, when talking with someone about an upcoming party I will be helping to plan, I was told (with great enthusiasm) how we could get chocolate bars as treats really cheap at a certain place. Oh, and the restaurant menu for the festivities was also passed around. With new eyes, I looked at the offerings to see if there was (o precious hope) anything I would be able to eat. I suppose I could order a large helping of croutons.  :embarassed:

I feel you pain. I cannot count how many restaurants have nothing but chocolate or dairy based desserts.

Would it kill them to have something with some fruit in it?   :banghead;

I don't know..... I look forward to being forced to eat chocolate because there is nothing else.  Hmmmm let's see

my old dietician actually said not to completely remove ur likes from ur diet... its OK to have them once in a while, in moderation.
Im not sure who said it on here, but i remember someone saying they just ate like a bite of a chocolate bar, and had some at another time. INstead of the whole thing at once....
and honestly, you have to live a little! As a friend of mine put it, he would much rather "die deliciously" than hungry LOL I prefer to live deliciously myself... the key to everything is moderation.

Its hard to be moderate with chocolate  ;D

But I have been debating going for a (small) ice cream cone. Only thing that has been stopping me that I am getting new labs done next week.   :angel; Maybe after that.

if you can control yourself, a little is ok.  I was doing ok with that, then we had barbeques and people brought treats and I have been very naughty.  I am watching myself very carefully after about 4 days of too much fruit, and almost daily doses of chocolate and dairy (mostly cheese).  Just once a day, but still.... :puke;

bad one!  And my numbers have been so excellent!  I have to get back on the wagon.  I was eating one or two Hershey's kisses, or a mini candy bar, usually just a couple a month, but thus was a bad week for me.  Was stop, good about coffee and tea, though.  Had pecans on Vanilla ice cram yesterday, home sick.  That's my weakness, the. I'm trapped with the yummies.. Also I hate to waste food, and my husband is on a diet....

now, I'm not on dialysis yet, so don't follow my example and think you'll be ok.  My gfr is 15-16.

The "eat only a little" is psychologically difficult to do.  All our low-brain instincts say "Eat it now while it's here, so you don't lose it and starve later!"   With both the dialysis diet and a weight loss diet, I have to remember the tip I heard from some British weight loss guru years ago.  (Big TV special - no clue what his name is, but it was a huge deal on American TV around 2006.)  Just keep repeating to yourself, "I can have more later."  I was living alone, so I had to remember - When I take a bite, or a serving,  I can eat it and I can put all the rest in the fridge.  IT WILL STILL BE THERE WHEN I GO BACK. 

 I struggle to remember that I'm not depriving myself - I'm helping myself.
