PD Cath Placement

I got my PD Cath placed on Thursday and holay am I ever sore, thank goodness for my family waiting on me.. I'm just wondering does the soreness go away and you don't feel anything?  Or is there always discomfort?  I don't do training until 3rd week of Aug. so looking forward to feeling better and getting my engery back..

The soreness will definitely go away, In the next few days you will wake up, and feel nothing.

phew I can't wait for that day to wake up and not struggle to get out of bed cause I'm sore!

It will go away. I thought the hole for the laproscopic camera hurt worse than where the catheter was. But give it a few days and it won't hurt at all.

The soreness from the surgery will go away in a few days to a couple weeks at most. After that, it might still hurt to fill or drain - something most people on PD know about. That pain might last a few weeks, or a few months. For me, it hurt to fill any faster than very slowly for 2 or 3 months. After that, it really only "pinched" when I was draining the last bits of fluid out (again, pretty normal for PD).

as said the soreness will go away soon.  It was also mentioned that filling and draining sometimes will cause pain.  For me it is more a discomfort than a pain. And it not always there - sometimes during the last part of a drain or the first part of a fill.  Not consistant.  The other part I noticed was that at first as I drained it felt like some one was pulling on my internal organs.  I'm making an assumption that it was that the drain was creating a vacuum and that was pulling the organs around a bit.  Then on the fill, it was just the opposite - as I filled, it would push against the organs - sometime making me feel like I needed to go to the bathroom.  It was just the pressure of the fluid and after a bit it would even out and go away. 

The BIGGEST issue with PD is to keep it clean - the tubing, the site, everything - You don't want to get peritonitis (ie infection). It is not nice.  Special note - if you feel a discomfort in the lower part of the belly (not related to a drain or fill) head to the ER ASAP.  and get it checked out.  If it is an infection, they can get you meds before it becomes too painful.  I know from experience - 2 times.  First time I thought I was having a heart attack.  The second time - caught sooner and it wasn't quite so bad, but still got to spend a couple days in the hospital.   Grumpy
