My doc told me they no longer were making Renegel. Is that true? Or is Renvela just a more costly version of the same thing?

Renvela is supposed to be a "buffered" version of renegel, making it easier on the digestive system...supposedly.  Whether or not it is more expensive (ie, out of pocket to you) depends upon your insurance, I guess.

i take  Tums, mainly because PhosLo is very expensive over here.  I am not verycompliant, but that is one of my New Year resolutions - to take my Tums religiously.

Renegel was only just made available here in the last year or so, and I heard that they stopped making it just after I started taking it.  I'm not sure if there would be a point to prescribing it if they did not make it anymore

Not sure if Renagel is being discontinued...Genzyme is pushing a new binder Renvela. We haven't adopted it yet; still using Renagel.

Thank you all for your replies.  I just switched to phoslo because I hated the fosrenol so much.  It made me want to barf too!  This made me non compliant and my phospherous level was 9.3!

I am determined to take my pills religiously and get that level down.

Your answers were very helpful.

I dont know how you were able to take that for 5 years! yuck, Gross. Ca ca. I tried that stuff only once and I said nope. I would rather take 10 Renegel or lay down and be done. It taste like chewable chalk without any smoothness.
