Going through life tied to a chair!

« on: January 27, 2007, 06:11:55 PM »

The clinic handed out some "Patient Education" materials today.  Here is some of their ideas for snacks!   >:(

Animal Crackers (I wonder if they mean the frosted kind)   ;D
Grahams (no chocolate)
Angel Food Cake (Puke)
Cupcake (no chocolate)
Matzoh (What ever the hell that is)
Gum Drops (Please!)
Lollipops and hard candy
Low Sodium crackers
Unsalted soda crackers, popcorn, or rice cakes
Unsalted popcorn, pretzels, tortilla chips

Here is my idea for a snack:   >:D
Twinkies
Glazed Donut Holes
Frosted Animal Cookies
Berrie Fruit Pie
Sugar Cookies (last resort)

What are some of your snacks?

I love Swedish Fish ...  but they eventually pulled out a filling, so the price wasn't worth it.    :'(

I gave up my favorite chips- Doritos- becasue last time I ate them I threw them back up. Yuck!  Have not touched them since.  Lays potato chips did the same thing to me.  I do not touch them anymore.  It is hard for me to touch potato chips anymore because I threw them up a couple of times. I HATE to throw up!  So the chip aisle is pretty much off my list.  Now cookies are another story. I can eat cookies and crackers until the cows come home.

Questions: Are Rye Krisp crackers high in potassium or phosphorous?  I love the way they taste!

Rule of thumb.  If it is good, then it is high in Phosphorous and Potassium.

Says no food and smoking in my unit.  Its probably better that way.  More food in your GI most likely bring down your pressure or can even make you nauseous.

I am addicted to bagels and cream cheese.   :2thumbsup;  I love chips and salsa, hell, salsa on anything.  It's been really hard for me to give up the salty stuff too.  The extra fluid is starting to really bother me so I am getting a lot better.

crackers with cheese and tomato mustard pickles
iced coffee
vegemite toast or crackers
grapes
yoghurt with a handful of pecan nuts
chocolate snack pack
shapes with dip
sourdough cheese twists

I am addicted to the low-sodium saltines, too, angela515. I swear I would starve without them. Pathetic, I know. Bread sticks ... those really thin crisp ones flavored with rosemary or garlic ... sugar cookies ... Milanos ... rice krispie treats ... Cocoa Puffs ... Kix ... unsalted pretzels. Buttered toast ... that very thin Pepperidge Farm bread toasted w/ real unsalted butter.

Mmmm ... cinnamon toast ... thanks, panda for makin' me hungry now.

My dialysis snack is Bear Naked granola and dried cherries.  I don't have potassium problems, so dried fruit is still one of my favorite munchies.

On my recent trip for Tx workup I had little baggies of honeynut cheerios.  My family just gave me strange looks for carrying it.
