I passed out at dialysis this morning. I've never done that before. She told me I was done, so I sat up and my calf started to cramp so I asked her if I could push on her leg.... then I felt sick so I told her I needed fluid. Then all I remember is her yelling at me.. my name and to pay attention to her. She told me I was unresponsive for a little while and I was trying to talk but nothing was coming out. Scary hua? I didn't see any white light.....
Have you passed out before??

Jeeze don't do that again
What were your blood pressures going on?
There was a time when if I stood up too quick I could blackout, it was due to low BP

I did that the first week I was doing PD. Was at home, wife was with me, all this stuff was new. I hadn't eaten during the day (ok, dumb me and I know better now). Hooked up to do my afternoon exchange, the room started spinning and away I went. Scared wife to death. She was ready to call 911, but I had her call the on call PD nurse instead. We determined I was really dehydrated, that and lack of food during the day did me in.
I was threatened with physical mayhem if I every let that happen again

Anyway I hope you don't have to go through that again.

What a scary thing to have happen! Are you OK now? Do you know what caused this?

in 6+ years on dialysis, I've passed out about once a year...keep a close watch on your blood pressure...listen for the machine to beep if your bp is too low...get a hypertonic when you still have at least an hour left..works best for me....Yes, coming around with nurses & techs yelling in your face is no fun...worst part for me is that when I pass out I always bite down on my tongue really hard & make it bloody/bruised

Well, whadja go and do that for? Stop it!
No, seriously, that must have been frightening as hell. Do they know why it happened? Did they take off too much fluid?
I've never passed out (yet) but I came kinda close this morning. BP was 80/47 standing and I started getting dizzy. Laid down and was okay.

I have had that happen four times. The cramping and nausea then out I would go. The nurses did a great job bringing me out of it with saline and constantly talking to me.That darned old dry weight thing, lose a few pounds and watch out.

I've done it a couple of times. It's not fun. I've gotten to a point where I recognize the feeling and can get someone's attention before I pass out. Sometimes I have no warning at all.
I have this thing where, when I stand up, even if my blood pressure isn't very low, it will drop fast. It doesn't even need to drop that far, 5 points, but it's the fast drop that does me in.

Yes, I'm sure it was low b/p but by the time she was able to push the button I was conscious and talking to her and it was 101 over something. So we don't know what it dropped to.
When I was sick I lost weight so I lowered my dry weight. I guess my appetite has been back for a little while so we 'raised' my dry weight.
Uggh yeah not fun.
Thank you for your sympathy because it made me feel better.

awww Rerun... wow what an experience. I'm wondering if you were sick, were you on any extra meds for that? Just a thought that having those extra things in your systemmay have played a part. Hmmm.... just a thought. Like you said though you lost some weight when you were not feeling well. I found it. It's sitting on my hips by the way. I was wondering who lost it lol. Hope you're feeling better now! And yeah, I did near pass out once. As a teen I took tennis lesson at a local tennis park with a girlfriend . A hot August morning we started lessons. My instructor served a few slow balls over the net to start us out. Everything got real bright white and I felt nauseous. I mean bright white and I was so dizzy. The tennis balls came over in slow motion and kinda looked like when a Dandelion blooms into that white puffy thing slowly floats through the air. Mike friend thought I was pretending i was drunk lol. They took me to the food stand a gave me M & M's and a coke. We callled it a day. As I look back I can see it being very dangerous to start going until your BP has been completely regulated. I hope that never happens to you again.

Last night went fine. The tech said what happened to me, happens and they just start fluid return and people come around.
I won't start the "but... what if" because then I won't be able to sleep there anymore.
