Recuperating from transplant....

Congratulations!  I hope you got the UTI taken care of.  That must have been horrible.

That was my donor who ended up with the UTI.  She spent some time with hives and that UTI, and had to be put on two different antibiotics, which of course doesn't help the nausea at all.  I got my staples out yesterday, and went and bought some "granny" underwear so that it doesn't bind on the incision.   I didn't realize I would gain 26 pounds, but that is mostly gone.  Although still quite swollen in the tummy.

I could have told you about the weight gain but I hate to tell horror stories before a transplant.

Sounds like you're doing great! I'm happy for you. (And when I got mine I couldn't even do the granny panties. Had to go commando for about 2 weeks til I healed.)

Great news....  transplants are happening....  I too just got a transplant 6 days ago..... I have been worried about the weight gain.....  I am fat now... I worked hard at loosing weight ...seem like after transplant I gain 11 lbs..... hope that goes away.....

get strong and out and moving soon......  its going to be a great new year for us

And don't worry so much about the weight gain. 

If your experience will be like mine, you'll find that the healthy kidney will give you so much more energy and stamina that you'll become more active--and burn lots more calories, thus losing weight eventually.

AH, thanks all, as it turns out, today I went in and had lost not only all that weight, but another 5 pounds as well.  Probably because I have had a lot of diarrhea (seems to finally be settling down through) and of course, no more PD which means that sugar water isn't going through me. 

I am going to save these giant pants and granny underwear in case I have to have another surgery to remove these huge PKD kidneys, or at least one.... but I am not going to think about that, at this point.  I am just anxious to get back home to Alaska.

(I just found Tyefly's thread)  So nice to come back to IHD and find all this good news.  Last time I looked, you were having a really cr**py time with your PD machine.  Very happy to read this good news.  Hopefully the diarrhea has settled down for awhile, its hard on your system all these medications and changes.  Go gently dear CHeatherS.

ohhhh Heather, i have been so excited for you and just now getting to write to tell you so.  Even had to look back up your post do do so..  I am behond thrilled that this happend for you and so hope that this will stay with you for a long long time and bring you health.  Please write to us (or me  ) and keep in touch as to how your doing...  Im so glad you came back to share, and God bless and keep you healthy..

Thanks so much friends, you are such an encouragement.  Yes, I have lost a lot of weight, even started on the dialysis weight from PD that I had put on.  It could be the diarrhea from this myfortic drug, and I am hoping that it settles down soon. 

Meanwhile I went to the Saturday Market today with my friend down here just outside of Seattle and there wasn't any pain!!!!  So, 2 and 1/2 weeks out, doing well.  There was a little rise in creatinine this week, from 1.9 up to 2.11, but then yesterday back down to 2.0.... so, drinking water, being very thankful, and missing Alaska.
