I have an upper arm fistula. Dr. told me it was not necessary to exercise It. I didn't and and it has worked like a charm for 2 1/2 yrs.
Good luck with yours.

Sometine back pain, but that is from gett'in older, I hope not from kidney issues.  My nurse practitioner and the fistula surgeon both said the exercise with squeezing the ball was old information and they don't recommend it any more as it is not helpful.  I asked the same question.  Hope all works out well for you.
